Abstract

Study about the use of active charcoal rice straws (AAJP) was done in order to decrease heavy metal ion on textile waste water by using photocatalyst AAJP/TiO2. Rice straws were gained from the Banyumas Regency and samples textile waste water from one of textile industry in Pemalang. This study was begun by the making of active charcoal from the rice straws, and then the modification of photocatalyst AAJP/TiO2 was done with the comparison 1:99, 2:98, 3:97, 4:96, 5:95. The test of heavy metal ion photoreduction was done with some parameters such as weight comparison (1:99, 2:98, 3:97, 4:96, 5:95), pH effect (2, 5, 7, 9, 13) and the effect of ray source (sun light and the UV lamp). Analysis of photocatalyst material used SEM and heavy metal ion concentration used AAS. Results show that optimum photocatalyst activity in weight comparison AAJP300oC / TiO2 (1:99) with decrease concentration was 65.02% for heavy metal ion, mean while AAJP700oC / TiO2 (3:97) with decreased concentration of heavy metal ion is 94.50%. Optimal process for heavy metal ion reduction occur at pH 2 with decreased concentration of heavy metal ion for AAJP300oC / TiO2 (1:99) is 99.87% and for AAJP700oC /TiO2 (3:97) is 100%. The source of UV lamp was good for heavy metal ion photoreduction (AAJP300oC/TiO2(1:99) was 99.87% and AAJP700oC/TiO2 (3:97) was 100%)

Abstract

The synthesis of SrTiO3 nanocubes have been carried out by solvothermal process using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as capping agent to control the particles morphology. The condition of the synthesis was obtained at 160 ºC for 24 hours with molar ratio of SrTiO3 and capping agent was 1 : 1. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern shows that SrTiO3 adopts a perovskite structure with a higher intensity of 110 at 2q:32.33º and the crystallite size calculated from FWHM was found to be 41 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum shows a shift in particular absorption band attributed the interaction between SrTiO3 particles surface and the head group of CTAB molecules. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image shows the cubic-like particles of SrTiO3, this indicatesthat CTAB successfully functions as capping agent on the synthesis of SrTiO3.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli adalah bakteri yang dapat menyebabkan infeksi. Umumnya masyarakat dalam mengobati penyakit infeksi terhadap bakteri sering menggunakan antibiotik, namun apabila digunakan secara berlebihan dan kurang terarah dapat mengakibatkan terjadinya resistensi. Untuk mengatasinya diperlukan pencarian bahan alami sebagai alternatif pengobatan, salah satunya yaitu minyak atsiri daun pala. Penelitian inibertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri minyak atsiri daun pala dari Banyumas terhadap S. aereus dan E. coli serta mengidentifikasi senyawa penyusunnya. Minyak atsiri dari serbuk daun pala kering diisolasi menggunakan metode destilasi air. Minyak atsiri yang diperoleh diuji sifat fisik dan dilakukan identifikasi senyawa penyusunnya menggunakan GC-MS. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode difusi untuk mengetahui Konsentrasi Hambat Tumbuh Minimum (KHTM) terhadap S. aereus  dan E. coli. Rendemen minyak atsiri daun pala yang diperoleh sebesar 1,34%. Minyak atsiri ini berwarna kuning pucat, berbau khas minyak pala dengan indeks bias sebesar 1,4779 dan bobot jenis sebesar 0,8862 g/cm3. Minyak atsiri daun pala diketahui memiliki 33 komponen kimia dan 5 komponen kimia terbesarnya adalah sabinene, terpinene-4-ol, α-pinene, β-pinene, and β-phellandrene. Minyak atsiri daun pala terbukti memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap S. aureus dengan KHTM pada konsentrasi minyak atsiri 3,125%  menghasilkan zona hambat sebesar 16,81 mm dan terhadap E. coli dengan KHTM pada konsentrasi minyak atsiri 1% menghasilkan zona hambat sebesar 0,54 mm.

Abstract

The leaves of Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng. (Lamiaceae) is a perennial plant that contained flavonoids compounds with have antidiabetic properties. The aim of the work was to select the best solvent for extraction of the flavonoid compounds from torbangun leaves. A statistical simplex-centroid mixture design for the water, ethanol, and hexane solvents has been used to the extraction of extract yield, flavonoids content, and inhibitory α-glucosidase activity of torbangun leaves.  The ethanol-water extracts showed the highest extract yield with value of 15.92%. The ethanol-hexane extracts presented the highest total flavonoids content, 96.30 mg QE/g, followed by hexane extract (82.91 mg QE/g). The ethanol extract recorded higher inhibitory of α-glucosidase activity, with value of 25.53%, followed by hexane extract (25.21%), and ethanol-water extract (23.02%). The weak correlation between the α-glucosidase inhibition and total flavonoids content showed that flavonoids contribute non-significantly to the α-glucosidase activity.

Abstract

TiO2­ photocatalyst can be used to reduce heavy metal ions into common metal ion or metal ion with lower coordination number. This research aimed to (1) study the influence of pH on the photoreduction activity of Pb2+ion by TiO2­, (2) study the influence of hole scavenger on the photoreduction activity of Pb2+ ion by TiO2­, (3) study the influence of light source on the photoreduction activity of Pb2+ ion by TiO2­. The method used on this research is laboratory experiment consist of the making of TiO2 thin film, standard Pb2+ photoreduction with the variation of pH, standard Pb2+ photoreduction with the variation of light source. The results of Pb2+ photoreduction are analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The result of the research showed that the activity of TiO2 to reduce Pb2+ can be optimum at pH 6, oxalic acid as hole scavenger and UV lamp use. The sunlight can also be used as the light source to reduce Pb2+ by TiO2 photocatalyst.

Abstract

The compound from endophytic fungi of Aspergillus sp. from leaves of kunyit putih (Curcuma zedoaria (Berg.) Roscoe) has been isolated. Isolation begins with cultivation ofAspergillus sp. in 18 L PDB’s media (Potato Dextrose Broth) for 28 days. The liquid cultivation medium was extracted by partitioning method using ethylacetate and then evaporated. The extract was separated and purified by chromatography techniques. Elucidation stucture of the isolated compound was analysis by spectroscopic method NMR 1D and 2D. Antibacterial activity of isolated compound was tested using the disc diffusion method at concentrations 2500, 1000, 500, and 125 ppm. The isolated compounds obtained in the form of a yellow oil (24.30 mg). The 13C NMR spectrum indicated 24 signals of carbon and base on analysis spectrum DEPT 135 showed 5 signal methynes carbon, 1 signals methylene, 9 signals of methyl and 9 signals quarternary carbon. These signals from 1H and 13C-NMR suggested that this compound contained aromatic group and four carbonyl. The isolated compound show antibacterial activity at concentration 2500 ppm which inhibition zone for E. coli, S. dysenteriae, S. aureus, B. subtilis were 10.3 ; 8.3; 8.4; and 7.8 mm, respectively. Based on the analysis result of NMR 1D and 2D, the compound was methyl 6-(5'-(2"-acetoxy-2”-methylpropanoyl)-3"- methyl-2'-(3"'-methylbutanoyl)phenyl)-3-methylbutanoate and has weak antibacterial activity.

Abstract

Degradasi zat warna kongo merah limbah cair industri tekstil menggunakan metode elektrodekolorisasi telah dilakukan. Eksperimen dilakukan dengan mengelektrolisis kongo merah menggunakan katoda karbon dan anoda besi. Analisis konsentrasi kongo merah dilakukan menggunakan metode spektrofotometri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dibawah kondisi optimum pada voltase 12 V- jarak elektroda 1 cm-pH 4- konsentrasi H2O2500 mg/L selama 12 menit, zat warna kongo red limbah cair industri tekstil dapat didegradasi 99,83 %. Metode ini dapat digunakan untuk mendegradasi zat warna kongo merah.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a state of chronic hyperglycemia which causes various complications. Traditionally, The Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsley) A Gray leaf has long been used for the treatment of diabetes. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the T. diversifolia leaf on blood glucose, polyphagia, and weight loss in a diabetic rat model. Rats were made diabetic with intraperitonial injection of Nicotinamide and Streptozotocin and divided into 5 groups. Group 1 were healthy rats, group 2 were diabetic rats, while groups 3, 4, and 5 were diabetic rats treated with 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg body weight of 70% ethanol extract of Tithonia diversifolia leaf respectively for 28 days. Blood was taken after treatment for measuring glucose. The ethanol extract of T. diversifolia leaf decreased blood glucose in diabetic rats (P<0.05). The ethanol extract of T. diversifolia leaf significantly suppresses polyphagia and improves diabetic rat weight (P <0.05). In conclusion, Tithonia diversifolia ethanolic extract has anti-hyperglycemic effect and ameliorated the effect of diabetes mellitus symptoms, namely polyphagia and weight loss.

Abstract

The synthesis of N-4t-butyl benzoil-p-aminophenol has been done by reacting p-aminophenol and N-4t-butyl benzoil chloride compounds, then the products were isolated and analyzed by TLC, melting point determination, UV/Vis Spectrofotometry, infra red spectrofotometry and mass spectrometry. The synthesis yield of N-4t-butylbenzoil-p-aminophenol was 33,52%, with the compound melting point between 192-194 oCThe determination of analgesic (ED50 of % analgesic activity ) and anti inflammatory activity (ED50 of edema inhibition) gave the ED50 of % analgesic activity was 144 mg/kg and ED50 of % edema inhibition was 43,24 mg/kg.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan fotodegradasi pestisida jenis sipermetrin dengan adanya fotokatalis titanium (IV) oksida-platina. Fotokatalis tersebut  dibuat dengan merefluks larutan titanium(IV) oksida tetraminplatina(II) klorida selama 2 jam kemudian diuapkan pelarutnya dan dipanaskan selama 12 jam. Padatan fotokatalis kemudian dikalsinasi selama 3 jam pada 500 °C. Hasil sintesis titanium(IV) oksida-platina 0,5% dan 1% dikarakterisasi dengan XRD, SEM, dan SEM-EDX. Kemampuan dalam mengkatalisis fotodegradasi diuji untuk pestisida sipermetrin yang dilakukan  selama 4 jam. Hasil fotodegradasi dinyatakan sebagai COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) yang diukur setiap 1 jam. Penurunan COD terbesar untuk titanium(IV) oksida platina 0,5% dan titanium(IV) oksida-platina 1% masing-masing yaitu 77% dan 79%.Sementara TiO2 standar sebesar 68,42 %.  Fotokatalis titanium(IV) oksida-platina lebih baik dibanding titanium(IV) oksida untuk degradasi sipermetrin.
