Abstract

In political conversation, Ibn Rushd named his political philosophy with the terms “Al-Jumhuriyah wa al-Ahkam” (Republic and Law). This political thought is a form of integration of science and deed. In this political context, Ibn Rushd prioritizes freedom and independence. In the perspective of Ibn Rushd, independence is not without rules, but independence and freedom that compatible with religion. In the perspective of Ibn Rushd, such freedom and independence is mirror of democracy. In politics, Ibn Rushd’s thinking is similar to the thoughts of previous philosophers who reconcile between religion and philosophy. According to Ibn Rushd, there is no contradiction between reason and religion, and therefore it is important for reason and religion to work together to uphold the principles of democracy in a country.

Abstract

This paper aims to critically explore interpretation result of QS. Al-Taubah/9:71 in Tafsir Qur’an Tematik by The Ministry of Religion Affairs Republic of Indonesia. This conducted because it is suspected that it contains a gender bias interpretation. This research used a critical qualitative-interpretative design by investigating the interpretation of QS. al-Taubah / 9: 71 using a contextualization interpretation. The findings reveal that the Thematic Interpretation of Al-Quran by the Ministry of Religion affairs published for the first time in 2009 represents the interpretation of the QS. al-Taubah/9: 71 as legitimacy of limiting the area of political leadership for women. Therefore, the product of such interpretations tends to be bias because it limits the area of state leadership based on a particular gender. This interpretation seems to contrast with the meaning of the significance of the verse that is found through the exploration of textual, contextual-historical, and dynamic contextual approaches. The meaning of the significance obtained from this verse only discusses about the socio-spiritual relationship in the internal Muslim community, not in the political context. The same results can also be seen in Tafsir al-Wajiz, in which the work is also the interpretation of the Ministry of Religion published in 2016, as well as the interpretation of scholars in various classical commentaries. The implication of the results of the interpretation of gender bias in Tafsir Qur’an Tematik can have an impact toward government policies in positioning positions for women in the society, especially in the area of the structural leadership of the country.

Abstract

This paper explores the issue of mubdil on Hajj Badal. A mubdil is a person who replaces the entire series of Hajj from Mubdal Minhu (a person being replaced). The narration of the hadith explains that a mubdil is a child or sibling of a person the person being replaced. In reality, many practices of hajj badal are carried out by people who do not have a descendant relationship with mubdal minhu, even the mubdil does not know the person he has replaced absolutely, and vice versa. there were also cases of misapplication of responsibility and fraud of hajj badal by replacing more than one mubdal minhu. The practice of hajj badal is based on the hadiths of Rasulullah which inform about replacing others in the Hajj because of physical conditions or because of death. The hadiths will be examined using the fiqh al-hadith method by studying the hadiths based on their relationship with the verses of the Qur'an and other hadith and through the textual and contextual approach of the hadith. Based on this method, it can be explored how the characteristics that must be possessed by a mubdil. The realization of these characteristics can minimize the occurrence of misuse of responsibility and trust in Hajj Badal.

Abstract

The issues surrounding Migration and the Problems of Muslim Minorities in the Modern World have become a hot topic of discussion and are constantly changing. This issue is fascinating, not only by Muslims but also by non-Muslims. The coverage of foreign (Western) media that always corners Islam (not individuals in Islam) and global terror events is very effective in changing a country’s policy to fight Islam. However, this does not mean that they (the West) are discriminatory actions against Muslims who live there. This study aims to review migration events and how the conditions of Muslim immigrants in Bali and several essential countries in Europe and Asia. This article is library research and empirical facts obtained from various current and reliable news sources. This event examines the extent of the fate of Muslim immigrants in multiple countries with different characters and critically examines how the policies of these countries impact Muslim minorities. In addition, a comparative study was also conducted on the condition of Muslim immigrants who became minorities in several countries with different backgrounds and characters. The results of this research are: First, Western countries highly uphold human rights. Some of the friction that occurs with the Muslim minority is a precautionary measure, not discrimination as is often presented to them. Second, the conflict between the Muslim minority and the local population is motivated by two factors (a) their ignorance of the real Islam and think that terrorist Islam is the same as King Salman’s in Saudi Arabia or Imām Khumaeni in Iran, and (b) improve security to protect the country and all its people from acts of terrorism. Third, discriminatory treatment occurs in the East World, China, Myanmar, Thailand, which are real examples that until now have not received a solution, even the United Nations has stated that the Rohingya are the most oppressed minority on earth.

Abstract

Subjectivity of meaning can’t be separated from human, for example the case of hijab. This research used quantitative method with semiotic approach. It also used Roland Barthes' semiotics with his 3 buildings (denotative, connotative and myth debunking) of QS. Al-Ahzab: 59, and connotative activities that dissolve in social practices in society. The results of this research indicated that the existence of the use of the headscarf and the leaning of the meaning of the headscarf as a standardization of women's religiosity was a myth, and become an ideology when it justified the meaning and blames other meanings. The meaning of shalihah women is women who wears hijab, or the longer the veil, the more shalihah she is. It is contrary to the goal of Islam as the basis for da'wah that always puts forward goodness and avoids badness (jalbul mashalih-dar'ul mafasid); do not force and preach well (amar ma'ruf nahy munkar bil ma'ruf).

Abstract

Ashabiyah and Mulk are positioned as a driving force in the big frame of Ibn Khaldun’s theory about the Rise and Fall of Dynasty. Although many studies on Ashabiyah and Mulk have been carried out, there have been very few attempts to apply them into the empirical phenomena in various society. This paper intends to apply Ashabiyah and Mulk’s theory of Ibn Khaldun in the history of the role of saints’ da’wa and their alliances with the rulers in the period of Demak’s Empire. The research was compiled using literature studies, with the main source of Muqaddimah and various related research articles. The analysis results show that Ibn Khaldun’s theory is suitable for explaining the essence of the end of Demak's Empire, namely the weakening of the Ashabiyah. Furthermore, Ashabiyah and Mulk are proven to be still relevant in analyzing the socio-religious phenomenon both in the empirical history and in the contemporary muslim’s society.

Abstract

As a human being, the Prophet was involved humanly in various dynamics of life. The Prophet used ijtihad reasoning and subjective tendencies, which are of course relative, in responding to life's problems. As a messenger of Allah, the actions and words of the Prophet are decisions for Muslims except for revelation with other provisions from Allah such as with Q.S al-Nisa ' 4:34; one of the verses that presents a lot controversial discussion. The Prophet's decision to qiṣāṣ a husband who committed violence against his wife, his passion is to provide justice and protection to women, but the decision was overturned by Q.S al-Nisa ' 4:34 which came down with other provisions as well as nuances of reprimand to the Prophet. The problem to be revealed in this paper is why Q.S al-Nisa ' 4:34 intervened in the Prophet's decision in responding to domestic violence. This research is a qualitative library research. The method of description is descriptive-analytical, which explains the basic construction of the Prophet's ijtihad and the significance of Q.S al-Nisa 4:34 to be analyzed using a historical-hermeneutical approach. The general conclusion from this paper is that Q.S al-Nisa' [4]: 34 places the issue of household and gender relations in the perspective of a social order that has been widely applied. The decision of the Prophet's qiṣāṣ itself is not wrong but tark al-awlā (leaving a better thing) because it can actually increase the escalation of domestic conflicts in patriarchal society.

Abstract

Religious pluralism is a constructive attitude, not only theological normative awareness but also social awareness, where we live in a pluralistic society in terms of religion, culture, ethnicity, and various other social diversity. In addition, religious pluralism must also be understood as a true affinity for diversity. Religious pluralism is a concept that has a broad meaning, is related to the acceptance of various religions, and is used in different ways. Pluralism aims to deconstruct absolutism, asserting relativism and underlying tolerance for differences, heterogeneity, and pluralism not only as facts that must be recognized but pluralism is seen and treated as a form of positivism, not negativism. Besides religious pluralism is also used as a unifying tool and glue for a country, both from the lower, middle and upper classes. In addition, a pluralist who promotes pluralism through pluralism must acknowledge and defend these differences, pluralism, and heterogeneity to be used as useful things. But in fact until now in the midst of society, there are still different perceptions in interpreting plurality and the term pluralism, understanding multicultural meaning based on sharia, not just mere personal perception.
