Abstract

Title: Reconstructing the Buried Temple Case Study: Candi Kimpulan Excavation and Restoration at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII)   The discovery of the archaeological site, Candi Kimpulan, during the foundation excavation of the Central Library Building at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) in December 2009 halted the ongoing construction. The agreement to conduct the restoration of this ancient site raised concerns about the duration and required space for the restoration process. Moreover, complications arose due to the location of the artifact discovery directly beneath the construction site. This article presents a literature review of various scholarly journals directly related to the reconstruction of buried temple structures. It aims to provide insights into the temple reconstruction process amid a comprehensive redesign of the university's library building. The study reveals crucial factors that significantly influenced the successful and relatively swift completion of the Candi Kimpulan restoration project. This endeavor serves as a positive benchmark for similar cases of buried temple discoveries, offering valuable lessons in planning and executing restoration projects.

Abstract

Title: The Permanence of Sabilal Muhtadin Great Mosque Area   The area of the Great Mosque of Sabilal Muhtadin Banjarmasin was originally the location of "Fort Van Tatas," namely the fortress of Tatas Island in the Dutch East Indies era. This area is the first layer of the development of Banjarmasin City, starting with the Tatas Fortress with a defense function. In its development, the area underwent several changes in function and form until the era of the Republic of Indonesia. In this area, the Great Mosque of Sabilal Muhtadin was established as an Islamic religious center in Banjarmasin. Given the significance of the area as the first layer of the city, the research aims to provide an overview of the morphology of the Sabilal Region from time to time. Next, use the city morphology approach to identify the permanence of the elements forming the area, including what elements remain, the elements that change, and the elements that are missing. Synchronic and diachronic analysis methods are carried out on urban tissue areas, including observed elements: roads, open spaces, natural elements and plots-blocks, and buildings. The analysis results show that the area's morphology has changed the urban tissue character of the area from a center of defense to a center of religion. In comparison, some of the area's elements have changed and disappeared, such as elements of the fort and elements of roads, and rivers.

Abstract

Title: Alternative Solutions to Control Heat Radiation in Commercial Building Design; Case Study: Commercial Buildings In Bukit Keminting, Palangka Raya City   A building envelope is a component that protects against environmental influences outside the building that are not expected to be a solution in controlling heat radiation and sunlight. However, the shops in Bukit Keminting, Palangka Raya, have challenges. In addition to its function as a commercial building with essential criteria like visibility aspect, the position of the storefront along the road also directly faces the sunset. This causes the store to receive heat and glare from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Using web-based software development from AndrewMarsh.com. This study focuses on effective shading devices for stores in Bukit Keminting Palangka Raya in controlling heat radiation without eliminating the vital aspect of visibility for commercial buildings. The software analysis shows that a highly flexible device is the most suitable solution. The type of shading device with these properties is the type of external Venetian blind, which can be adjusted according to the direction of the incoming light, which changes every month.

Abstract

Title: Acculturation of Javanese Architecture in Yogyakarta; Pedimented façades in Javanese architecture at the Kraton Yogyakarta and Dalem Notonegaran At the beginning of the 20th century, European Colonialism dominated almost all parts of the world. In this period, cultural acculturation was developed between European and local cultures in the colonised territory, including architecture. Many studies concerning architectural acculturation in the late colonial era emphasised the roles of European agents in appreciating while dominating the local culture. This research presents an alternative perspective by focusing on the Javanese elite as the agents of cultural change. Javanese architecture, on the one hand, with its long tradition, has recognisable stylistic formulation. On the other hand, it has a great degree of adaptation, giving chances for acculturation with many other architectural traditions. At the beginning of the 20th century, one exciting dynamic was the façade with pediment incorporating European Neo-Classical architecture. Originating in Ancient Greek Architecture, pediments continuously developed as a reference in European architecture. In Yogyakarta, the aristocratic circle adopted a pedimented façade supported by twin columns on both ends combined with many elements of Javanese culture. This research compares several pedimented façades with various cultural sources and architectural compositions in several buildings in the Sultan’s Palace of Yogyakarta and the princely residence of Notonegaran. From this comparison, this research discovers the progressive sides of Javanese architecture with many novel syntheses incorporating European architectural elements and Javanese ornamentations with novelty in composition, technology, and representation.

Abstract

Title: Redesign Sangeng Market, Manokwari as a Disability-Friendly Public Facility A market is one of the public facilities that function as a fulfillment of life’s needs and is used continuously by the community, so it must meet the needs of various groups, including groups with disabilities. Sanggeng market as a public facility faces accessibility issues for its users, especially those with disabilities. Disabilities refer to temporary or permanent limitations or loss of sensory and physical mobility capabilities. The pre-design research on the Redesign of Sanggeng Market aims to identify reference standards and design guidelines, particularly for physical disabilities. The research analysis is transformed into building design. The methods employed include a literature study on disability reference and general standards, precedent-building studies, and observations of similar cases. The analysis follows four principles of accessibility, which are applied to circulation, market support facilities, kiosk planning, and stalls. The research results encompass safety principles in circulation pathways, ease of use in guiding block and signage planning, usability principles in kiosk and stall design, and principles of independence in achieving access. This redesign significantly impacts the organization and revitalization of existing zones and functions. It is expected to contribute to city planning that embraces the principles of equality for the residents of Manokwari.

Abstract

Title: Analysis of Qanun and The Uniqueness of Regional Colors in Traditional Acehnese House Architecture Qanun are regulations related to Islamic Shari’a in aspects of life and society. The form of Islamic Shari’a in Aceh has been integrated into the form of architecture. This is stated in the form of traditional Rumoh Aceh culture, which closely relates to philosophy and Shari’a. The research aims to find out how much influence Qanun regulations have on the architecture of Rumoh Aceh and the typical colors used in it. This research uses descriptive and observational methods. The results of this research explain that Qanun regulations have a very close influence on the architecture of Rumoh Aceh. There are several things related to the shape of Rumoh Aceh, such as the shape of the building and the ornaments of the Aceh House, which are in the form of plants and other motifs and do not conflict with Islamic Shari’a. Apart from that, the color of Rumoh Aceh is very distinctive, with yellow dominating the meaning of health and warmth. These values are a cultural interpretation of the Acehnese people, which have been implemented for a long time as local wisdom, which is based on and in line with Qanun regulations.
