Abstract

Title: Daylighting Performance Optimization Through Courtyard Well and Window Opening Design at Rusunawa Cingised Blok 4 Low-rise apartments have emerged as a viable solution as the need for low-income housing grows and land becomes scarce. In the 2024 building type design of low-rise flats, courtyards were included to improve daylighting performance. However, observations show that daylighting in low-rise public housing, such as Cingised Block 4, is still not optimal, requiring evaluation and optimization. This study examines the effect of the courtyard well’s geometric proportions, considering the horizontal obstruction from the single-loaded corridor surrounding the courtyard well. The research aims to determine the impact of optimal courtyard well configurations and light openings on natural lighting performance in Cingised Block 4 low-rise apartments. The study employs evaluative and comparative methods with a quantitative approach through digital simulation. The simulation uses the Radiance Ray Tracing system for daylight metrics based on Climate-Based Daylight Modelling and utilizes LightStanza software. The optimization results for Cingised Block 4 show that increasing the width dimensions of the courtyard well and the Plan Aspect Ratio variable will enhance the daylight quantity despite the corridor overhang. Optimizing the facade configuration of apartment units facing the courtyard well through the Window Wall Ratio (WWR) can significantly improve the distribution and quantity of daylight in the rooms.

Abstract

Title: Transformation of a Silversmith's House in the Selaka Group, Jagalan Village, Kotagede as a Tourism Support Based on the Governor's Decree Number 131/KEP/2023, Kotagede was designated as a Cultural Heritage Area because there are many sites, buildings, and cultural heritage structures due to their high historical and cultural value. This is reflected in the social life of the community, urban space, and architecture. Kotagede has experienced many physical changes in buildings causing the original characteristics to fade. Therefore, efforts are needed to preserve buildings so that they are not eroded by time, tourism development, and the demands of individual needs. The study aims to identify the forms and reasons for the transformation that occurred in Kotagede and to review the suitability with the principles of preserving traditional Javanese houses. The study used a qualitative method with a case study research approach. The study focused on the traditional house of the Selaka Kotagede group, a community that works together with the Arkom Indonesia Foundation and the AirAsia Foundation. The forms of change in Selaka silver craftsmen include the spatial structure system (organization, hierarchy, circulation, territory) and the physical system (building materials). Changes include the position of core, peripheral, and additional elements. The study found that the traditional house of Selaka Kotagede silver craftsmen experienced changes in the periphery and the addition of elements, but the core elements were maintained to maintain cultural identity. Thus, the preservation of cultural heritage buildings in Kotagede can be implemented by maintaining the core elements of traditional house buildings.

Abstract

Title: The Implementation of Disaster Risk Management for Children with Special Needs at Sekolah Luar Biasa Negeri 1 Yogyakarta Disaster risk reduction for children with special needs in special schools is an important thing that needs to be implemented because children with special needs are a vulnerable group when a disaster occurs. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, collecting data through observation, interviews, documentation, literature reviews, and behavior mapping. This research uses the III Pillars of Comprehensive School Safety and Behaviour Mapping as the basis of analysis. The study was conducted to know the implementation of disaster risk management by SLB Negeri 1 Yogyakarta and the response of children with special needs.  SLB Negeri 1 Yogyakarta has conducted disaster risk reduction through several aspects, namely facilities, disaster management, and disaster education. However, in the implementation, there are still shortcomings generally caused by land limitations.  The behavior mapping process reveals that the adaptable responses demonstrated by students with special needs make any aspect that does not meet the standard tolerable.

Abstract

Title: Site-Specific Art Installation; Entrance of ArtJog “Arts in Common” at Jogja National Museum The art installation serves as an object that fills a space in a building, an imaginary space, or a space in the open air. The installation possesses aesthetic characteristics that defy rigid boundaries in fine art, which are typically considered standard, and it also lacks limitations in the use of media or materials. ArtJog is one of the premier art exhibition events in Yogyakarta, featuring art installations. ArtJog originated from art fairs that always featured a central art installation placed at the entrance, using a concept or theme in line with the ongoing exhibition. ArtJog art installations are non-permanent, so that the exhibition space will be dismantled upon the exhibition's conclusion. The main art installation work at the entrance is essential as an application of the concept and theme that means "there is an ArtJog exhibition" with the function of the workspace in it, as well as being a connecting space between the outside space and the space in the gallery which can be formulated as site-specific art. The elements of site-specific art can be articulated and defined as a special relationship between objects or events and their specific locations. This study will examine the three years of ArtJog to identify the theoretical elements of site-specific art, focusing on the central art installations of ArtJog in 2019, which marked the beginning of the overarching theme "Arts-in-Common", the second year, 2021, and the third year, 2022. The study will conclude by analysing the characteristics of site-specific art.

Abstract

Title: Plagiarism of Architectural Works from the Perspective of Professional Ethics and the Code of Conduct for Architects Plagiarism in the creative and academic world is a serious issue related to intellectual property rights violations, including in the field of architecture. Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright protects architectural works as part of copyright, while the code of professional ethics formulated by the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) regulates ethical aspects in architectural practice. However, until now there have been no clear parameters to determine whether an architectural work can be categorized as plagiarism. This study examines the issue of plagiarism in architecture from the perspective of the code of ethics and rules of conduct for the architectural profession in Indonesia. The method used is a qualitative-interpretive approach with an analysis of literature studies and a study of regulations and cases of architectural plagiarism in Indonesia. The results of the study show that Law No. 28 of 2014 has guaranteed copyright protection, and the code of ethics for the architectural profession has regulated general ethical principles. However, there are no explicit boundaries that distinguish between inspiration and plagiarism in architectural works. This research is expected to be the basis for formulating clearer regulations in determining plagiarism in architecture.

Abstract

Title: Study of Typical Elements of Shukubamachi’s (Post Towns) in the Tōkaidō Route, 17th-century Japan A town, as a physical environment, has various dimensions of value that reflect its characteristics. Both in terms of historical value and other factual aspects of building the town’s identity. Shukubamachi is a unique type of town that developed from political policies established by the Tokugawa shogunate in 17th-century Japan, during the Edo period (1603-1868), a two-decade period of peace. This study investigates significant elements of the shukubamachi. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, systematically compiling a detailed description of shukubamachi’s phenomenon based on observations obtained from historical documentation and visual illustrations. The final result can be concluded that the characteristics of the shukubamachi are identified by the presence of three main functional elements: the honjin, the waki-honjin, and the ton’yaba. In addition to the transit facilities provided for the bakufu government, there were other functions initiated by the locals, such as public lodging with additional bathhouses and restaurants (hotago-ya), simple lodging (kichin-yado), supply stores (shouka), and tea houses (chaya).

Abstract

Title: Small Steps-Big Impact: Walking Tour as Key to Sustainable Tourism in Kampung Peneleh Surabaya A way to preserve historical areas through tourism is by organizing walking tours. Recently, there has been a surge in walking tours offering experiences in spatial and architectural history for both domestic and international tourists. One example is the locally organized walking tours. However, studies focusing on tourist experiences during these walking tours, directly involving tourists as participants, are still limited. Identifying observation points along the walking tour route is crucial to determine which sites elicit positive or negative responses from participants. This article aims to explore tourists' spatial and architectural experiences and assess the contribution of walking tours to sustainable tourism. The research focuses on a case study in the historical village of Peneleh, Surabaya, where walking tours are conducted by a tourism awareness group (pokdarwis). The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing observation and photo surveys, with six tourists serving as participants who joined other tourists on a walking tour package. The results show 154 photos representing four participant responses: liked photos (50.6%), disliked (10.4%), helpful during the tour (19.5%), and areas needing improvement (19.5%). Participants captured liked objects while also noting areas that require improvement. Additionally, walking tours offer broader access to various tourist sites that are not always open to the public. Those initiated by Pokdarwis can be sustainable tourism activities, continually innovating tour themes and offering new experiences for tourists.
