Abstract

Title: The Effectiveness of Urban Farming for Urban Heat Island Mitigation in Urban Areas   Urban farming and greenery are the emerging idea in maintaining a sustainable environment in term of economic, social, and environmental aspects. The existence of urban farming is primarily aimed to maintaining food security for the community, especially in the pandemic crisis. Moreover, the high rate of urbanization also affects the transformation of urban space, which is one of the factors causing climate change. The integration of vegetation in urban area is considered to be a strategy to maintain the quality of the microclimate and reducing the intensity of the urban heat island. This study aims to observe the effectiveness of urban farming/greenery in maintaining the microclimate quality at District of Tompeyan Yogyakarta, which is well known for their urban farming integrated inside the residential areas. Using field measurement and simulation methods, the results show that the vegetation in the outdoor space have a significant impact, especially related to surface temperature and air temperature. The simulation using ENVI-MET shows that there is an increase in the thermal comfort index in the areas with vegetation, although it has not yet reached the ideal value. This represents how the role of vegetation in urban heat island mitigation to provide a comfortable and sustainable environment. The study can be further developed regarding the impact of other physical elements on microclimate to be the foundation for spatial planning recommendations.

Abstract

Title: Updating Joglo Construction Without Four Saka guru (Case Study of Pendopo Pura Agung Blambangan of Banyuwangi)   Current architectural developments to maintain its sustainability have reached the awareness stage to explore the potential for the diversity of archipelago architecture, one of which is exploring the potential for the Joglo traditional house for the future. The demand for wide spans often comes to the fore, so it is not uncommon for new construction designs to respond to the demands for wide spans free from pillars. However, a solution is needed to solve this problem. The pillars and their frames are the main part of the main reinforcement system for the roof load as a whole, so they become prerequisites on behalf of the Joglo. This writing aims to analyze the updated form of construction without pillars that still maintain the Joglo form. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach by examining the process of eliminating the four pillars of teachers by analyzing the reliability of the structural system of the Puri Agung Blambangan pavilion and the Sabha Swagata Blambangan pavilion in Banyuwangi, East Java. The research results show how the construction of the four pillars and their frames are believed to be the main strength to withstand the roof’s weight. The construction system without the four pillars of the guru and their frames reduces the rigidity of the building because the strength is transferred to the pillars on the edges of the building and does not reflect the joglo structural and construction system. Many knot points have appeared without the pillars and the framework of a construction system, increasing the risk of collapse.

Abstract

Title: Study of Walkability Quality on Tourism Line Corridor of Yogyakarta City Case Study: Corridor line of Panembahan Senopati, Sultan Agung, and Kusumanegara Street   Walkability measures pedestrian paths' connectivity, quality, and friendliness. Walkability allows everyone to gain experiences in the surrounding environment and meet their needs independently. From the tourism side, pedestrian walkability is the primary support for the convenience of tourists. The development of the city of Yogyakarta that supports tourism seeks to increase connecting routes between available tourist destinations. One of the corridors connecting several tourist destinations is the connecting line between the zero point toward the eastern boundary of Yogyakarta City. This corridor connects several exciting tourist destinations, including The National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) in the form of the Sultanate Palace, Pakualaman Palace, and a tourism potential known as the "Gembira Loka" Zoo. This study aims to evaluate the quality of pedestrians in the corridors described above. This research is qualitative research using descriptive methods to explain research findings. The evaluation and assessment were carried out using the Global Walkability Index Criteria. The findings stated that the condition of the pedestrian path still had some problems, such as permanent and non-permanent obstacles, narrow lanes, not yet friendly for the disabled, inadequate crossing points/spots, and a lack of convenient support facilities.

Abstract

Title: Development of Virtual Expo Architectural Model as an Alternative Media for Entrepreneurship Learning   Participating in an exhibition plays a vital role in the learning process of entrepreneurship. Exhibitions can be a means to practice selling and introducing products or services, exploring competitor activities, dialogue and demonstrations with potential buyers, and establishing networks with distributors and investors. During the pandemic, there were limited exhibitions due to physical distancing. Although technological developments have made virtual expos possible, MSME players often need help to keep up with the ever-growing digital transformation. Therefore, entrepreneurship education should integrate digital literacy competencies to increase future generations' resilience. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluate) development model. This study proposes a virtual expo model developed using SketchUp, Enscape, and Blender. Virtual Expo as a learning medium has feature criteria that allow participants to practice basic skills in entrepreneurship, including the ability to do promotions (pitching), formulate branding and marketing strategies, make prototypes, and present business plans. The metaverse-based prototype is more recommended for entrepreneurial learning media because it can facilitate real-time interactions such as presentations with visible cameras and gestures, booth designs displayed with three-dimensional models, and more interactive product presentations.

Abstract

Title: Healthy Buildings as Supporting Health Tourism in Bali Bali is known as a tourist destination, and tourism in Bali has fallen due to COVID-19. The government plans to revive Bali tourism by establishing it as a health tourism destination. Support for health tourism is the healthy buildings that can minimise the transmission of COVID-19. In addition to health in tourist attractions, houses and areas where people live must also be healthy. The facilities in traditional Balinese villages have generally changed their function to become new buildings to accommodate the number of families and changes in activity patterns. These changes cause buildings to become unhealthy and impact the health of the village. Based on these problems, it is necessary to ask that healthy buildings in traditional Balinese villages can support health tourism. The research objective was to conduct an initial study of healthy buildings in traditional villages. The benefit of the research is preventing transmission of COVID-19 and other outbreaks that may occur in the Bali region. The research method is a literature study and observation. The study results are recommendations for repairing buildings in traditional villages to reduce the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

Abstract

Darmo is an area in the city of Surabaya which rich in architecture from the Dutch colonial period. Based on the Regional Regulations of the City of Surabaya, not all buildings in the Darmo area are protected. A lot of the original buildings were being interfered with. De Mier Eat and Stay is an example of adaptive reuse in the Darmo area that collaborates preserved Dutch Indies-styled building with a new modern building to accommodate new functions. This paper examines how successful conservation and infill design principles are applied in De Mier Eat and Stay. The research method was conducted qualitatively through site visits and interviews with the designer. The data were then analyzed with a comparative table based on the literature. From this study, it can be concluded that the interventions done in the opening elements fulfill all four conservation principles. In contrast, the wall elements only fulfill three, and the floor elements didn’t fulfill at all. The Infill design was done using the contrast approach. Collaborating two eras of architecture through façade, proportion, materials, and the responses to surroundings creates a unique harmony in De Mier Eat and Stay.
