Abstract

This study aims to determine the preferences of Indonesian among UPN "Veteran" East Java students as users of a website-based information system, to determine the factors that influence the preferences of Indonesian students at UPN "Veteran" East Java as users of a website-based information system, and to find out the differences in Indonesian language preference for East Java "Veteran" UPN students as users of a website-based information system. This study used a quantitative research method by distributing questionnaires for data collection. The results of this study show that the preference for Indonesian among UPN "Veteran" East Java students is still high, at around 95% in the use of a website-based information system. Factors that influence preference for Indonesian among UPN "Veteran" East Java students as users of a website-based information system are 1) the ease of understanding information, 2) the convenience factor, and 3) the quality of Indonesian translation. In addition, differences in Indonesian language preferences among UPN "Veteran" East Java students as users of website-based information systems are due to several factors, namely the level of comfort and familiarity with using Indonesian in using website-based information systems, the frequency of using Indonesian in everyday life, and the level of confidence in the quality of access and ease of use of website-based information systems in Indonesian.

Abstract

This study aims 1) to find out whether the use of Indonesian on the elearning website at the Universitas Pembangunan “Veteran” Jawa Timur can support student learning, and 2) to analyze the effectiveness of using Indonesian on elearning at the Universitas Pembangunan “Veteran” Jawa Timur. The method used in this study is a quantitative method using a questionnaire as a data collection instrument. Based on this research, it can be concluded as follows: 1) the use of Indonesian on the elearning website of the Universitas Pembangunan “Veteran” Jawa Timur can support student learning because around 80.73% of respondents stated that they agreed or supported it. Next, 2) the use of Indonesian in elearning at the Universitas Pembangunan “Veteran” Jawa Timur is known to be effective, with answers agreeing and strongly agreeing around 79.45%. Suggestions for further research are to increase the sample of respondents and use other research methods with the aim of producing different outputs. Keywords: effectiveness, elearning, language

Abstract

Language is the most important aspect in the formation of values ??in a literary work. The use of language in each literary work is different. This depends on the culture that is raised in literary works. Not only Indonesian is used, but there are also Indonesian literary works that contain foreign languages ??or regional languages. This research focuses on code mixing in Leila S. Chudori's novel Laut Bercerita by using a pragmatic perspective. Some literary works use more than one language. This study aims to obtain a description that includes forms of code mixing from several languages. By using the observation method and note-taking techniques, this study was analyzed using a pragmatic approach. Based on this, syntactically the form of word insertion code mixing is produced, phrase insertion, and insert clauses loaded in the data. Keywords: language, code mixing, syntax, pragmatics

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Model Discourse Multi Representation (DMR) on the ability to write negotiating texts for class X students of SMA N 1 Batang Kuis in the 2022/2023 Academic Year. This study used an experimental method to see the effect of a treatment on students' ability to write negotiating texts using the Discourse Multi Representation (DMR) model. The population in this study were all students of class X consisting of 9 classes totaling 324 students. The sample of this research is class X MIA-1 totaling 36 students and X MIA-2 totaling 36 students with purposive sampling technique. The research design used was a two group posttest design with an essay test instrument. Based on the data processing carried out, the average value of the experimental class with the Discourse Multi Representation (DMR) model = 86.33, a standard deviation of 7.079, while the average value of the control class with the conventional model (lecture) = 73.86, a standard deviation 6,94. Based on the normality test carried out on the post-test results of the experimental class and the control class, it is known that the distribution is normal. Based on the post test homogeneity test it was stated that the samples of the two variables came from homogeneous populations. After the normality test and homogeneity test is carried out, it is known that Tcount = 7.55 After Tcount is known, then this value will be consulted with the t table at a significance level of 5% or 0.05 with df=n-1, df=36-1=35 obtained significance level of 5% is 1.689. Because the Tcount obtained is greater than Ttable, namely 7.55 > 1.689, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This proves that the Discourse Multi Representation model has an effect on the ability to write negotiating texts for class X SMA N 1 Batang Kuis  in the 2022/2023 Academic Year. Abstract

The problem in this study is that the descriptive text material in the teaching materials used by the teacher does not explain the material in depth, causing difficulties for students in learning descriptive text which does not achieve achievement indicators that are in accordance with basic competencies. This study aims to develop descriptive text material in the form of a digital magazine with the help of a flipbook application to make it easier for students to learn descriptive text and can be used in the learning process to make it more effective and efficient. The subjects in this study were class VII - 8 students of SMP Negeri 35 Medan, expert validators of instructional media design and material expert validators. The object of this research is Teaching Materials of Description Texts in the Form of Digital Magazines Assisted by Flipbook Applications in class VII students. This type of research is carried out by R&D (Research and Development) by applying the Borg and Gall development model. The developed product is validated by material experts and media experts to test the feasibility of the product being developed. The score obtained for the material validation results was 80% in the "good" category and the score obtained for the design validation was 83% in the "very good" category. Based on the results of this validation, it can be concluded that the product developed is declared feasible for use in the learning process.  Keywords: Development, Teaching Materials, Description Text.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding the commonly used language learning strategy by EFL student in Indonesia. Literature review design is used in carrying the study. The source of the data is 25 scientific research about language learning strategy that used Strategy Inventory Language Learning (SILL) as the main instrument. The finding shows that metacognitive strategy is the most commonly used strategy by the learners, and it is followed by compensation strategy as the second most commonly used strategy. The least used strategy by the learners is Memory strategy.

Abstract

Discrimination against the rights of minorities must be avoided by the majority group by prioritizing the views, attitudes and behaviors that respect, accept and acknowledge all differences. The focus of this study describes the figure of Abdurahman Wahid who defended and fought for the rights of minorities contained in the novels Sejuta Doa untuk Gus Dur by Damien Dematra.This research is a type of qualitative research, with content analysis data analysis techniques. The research data are sourced from the novel A Million Prayers for Gus Dur by Damien Dematra in the form of Abdurahman Wahid's defense or struggle against minorities. Data collection techniques using the technique of reading and taking notes. Data validation uses theory triangulation. The findings show Abdurahman Wahid's defense and struggle against minority rights. Gus Dur's struggle in viewing minority rights can be seen from the thoughts, attitudes and actions of Gus Dur who care for minorities who experience discrimination and violence. Gus Dur's consistency in defense for minority rights has implications for harmony between religious communities.The results of this study can be useful for society as a reflection of living in harmony, which can respect a difference. In addition, for lecturers, teachers, and student the results of this study are useful as an alternative to learning literature at schools and universities from a multicultural value perspective. This study examines Gus Dur's attitudes, views and behavior in defense for minority rights. Respect for minority rights is a form of living in harmony. Gus Dur's struggle and consistency in defending the rights of minorities should be practiced by every citizen by respecting, accepting and acknowledging all the differences. Abstract

This study examines the problem of assertive illocutionary speech acts in the film Sejuta Sayang Untukya by Herwin Novianto. This study aims to describe assertive illocutionary utterances in the film Sejuta Sayang Untuknya by Herwin Novianto. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique in this study utilized the observing method, with the research technique namely basic tapping techniques and advanced techniques which are divided into competent engaged observing techniques (SLC), proficient free engaging observing techniques (SLBC), and note taking techniques. The data research instrument is the researcher himself who acts as an observer. The data analysis technique was carried out by watching the film Sejuta Sayang Untuknya by Herwin Novianto repeatedly in order to understand the meaning of the speech in the film. Then transcribe the data that has been obtained, followed by describing the data. Furthermore, researchers concluded the data that has been analyzed. The results of data analysis are presented in the form of a brief description. This research shows that there are 22 assertive illocutionary speech acts in the film Sejuta Sayang u by Herwin Novianto. These assertive speech acts include: 1) there are 8 assertive utterances of telling, 2) there are 2 assertive utterances stating, 3) there are 8 assertive utterances refusing, 4) there are 3 utterances expressing opinions, and 4) there is 1 assertive utterance reporting.

Abstract

Psychological science that discusses the human needs in his life has become sub-interdisciplinary in literary studies, which is contained in the discussion of humanistic psychology. Maslow, a well-known figure in the study, published his third book Mahzab. In the study, human needs are divided into five and one of them needs love and have. In this discussion the need for love and having a much needed on victims of sexual violence. His struggle to get all the love lost is not easy. The main character goes through a lot of time and self-problems in order to get a normal life and all his loved ones back. This stage of the main character after becoming a victim in order to get his love back is by (1)Being alone wherever he is (2)Always blame himself (3)Go to the psychiatrist (4)Start ventured to believe in people (5)Finding all the love that was lost (6)Realizing mistakes and starting a new life. Abstract

Abstract This study aims to explain: (1) the intrinsic elements of the novel Dear Allah by Diana Febi, (2) the relationship between setting, plot, and characterizations tied to the theme in the novel Dear Allah, and (3) the form of the relationship between signs and references in the form of indexes, symbols, as well as icons in the novel Dear Allah. This research uses the content method with a qualitative description approach. The validity of the data is obtained through observation, perseverance and thoroughness of the reader in reading and understanding the contents of the novel, as well as the triangulation method. The results of the study explain that the novel Dear Allah has a forward plot with three stages, namely the first stage is an introduction, then the middle stage is the emergence of a conflict or problem, and the last stage is a resolution. The novel Dear Allah by Diana Febi ends with happiness for the main characters, namely Naira and Wildan. They both can finally live together happily and they are grateful to have been blessed with a child. The story of this novel is set in a mosque, room, Wildan's house, hospital, living room, operating room, and hall of the nursing center. All intrinsic elements are interrelated and tied to the theme. The form of the relationship between signs and references can be found in the novel Dear Allah in the form of icons, which consist of diagrammatic icons, topological icons, and metaphorical icons.
