Abstract

This paper discusses about the linkage of democracy and civic education. Civic education is a vehicle to sustain and develop democracy. It is important to create democratic citizen and to support democracy. In response to the process of democracy in Indonesia, civic education should be reformed in order to prepare students to be good citizens.Effective civic education for democratic citizenship treats three basic components; knowledge of citizenship and government in democracy, cognitive skills of democratic citizenship, disposition and development characteristic of democratic citizenship.   Kata Kunci : demokratisasi, pendidikan kewarganegaraan.

Abstract

Durkheim had a great attention to morality and moral education. He viewed that, as an institution, a school had an important role in moral education. In his opinion, the best time to implant morality to children is when they are in their childhood, especially when they are in elementary school. In Indonesia, moral education is included into Civic Education curricula. In the case of elementary school, the goal of this subject is emphasized on the implementation of moral values in daily lives. This article will elaborate the difference between the concept of Durkheim’s moral education and moral education implemented in Indonesia elementary schools. Abstract

Basically, all policemen have the main duties to maintain social order and security, to enforce the rule, and to give the best service to all citizens (society). But, in fact, most of them did not do their duties well and, moreover, they often arrest people who did not do any guilt at all. In some cases, many people were often forced to admit the guilt that they have never done at all. This article tries to discuss the issues related to the mistake or misjudgment of the policemen in catching or arresting people. Kata Kunci: Masyarakat,  Polisi, Hukum, Peradilan, Pidana, Kasus

Abstract

Many Indonesian perceive that UUD 1945 as Indonesian constitution is sacred. This sence is widely believed until the end of New Order regime. Up to now, the constitution has been amended for two times, that is amendment 1 and amendment 2. These two amendments are believed as an entry point headed for further steps of democratization after the fall of Soeharto’s regime and is an effort for the establishing of Human Rights in Indonesia. Key Words: Amandemen, UUD 1945, Hak Asasi Manusia

Abstract

The establishment of the international standard schools is a good policy because it can improve the students’ competitiveness in international level in facing globalization. However, it can be seen as students’ alienation from their environment’s real condition. The purpose of educational institution as a facility for transferring social values and norms between generations might be ignored, causing the nation’s characters to deteriorate. This article explains the sociological impact of international standard school and the discourse about the development of local wisdom in building the nation’s characters in school. The topic centered on two problems. First, the practice of international standard school as seen through sociological perspective. Second, the role expected to be played by international standard schools in developing local wisdom to build the nation’s characters. This study is important regarding the purpose of education as a mechanism to transfer values and norms inter-generationally, in order to establish international standard school that is based on local wisdom so that students will not forget their Indonesian characters and identities. Abstract

Basically, each individual wished to have a positive social identity. In the point of view of social identity theory, the wishes to have positive social identity is viewed as an important psychological drive in individual actions at all social interactions. All this time, there are so many policies of Indonesian government that made the position of Indonesian-Chinese identity to be marginalized, both in colonial and independence eras. The dynamics of position of Indonesian-Chinese identity are basically related to the treatment of government. It seemed that the efforts to have positive social identity, the social mobility of the Indonesian-Chinese varied and depended on the perception of each group in connecting with how to improve theirselves images. Besides, there is  also a tendency that they tried to make social changes through the improvisation of theirselves images from their Chinese’s identity. Abstract

The aims of this research are to identify the readiness of the Indonesian public servants in preparing themselves in facing their retiring period and to analyze the government efforts and policies in handling the issue of the retired public servants especially in the area of West Sumatera. This study was conducted in four regencies and cities in the area of West Sumatera province and in the province government itself. The qualitative method was used in this research. Based on data analysis, it is found that basically most of the public servants were not ready to prepare themselves in facing their retiring period so that they felt some mental problems when they spent their times in their retiring period. Most of them did not have life skills sufficiently that maybe useful for them when spend their retiring period. In addition, there were not standardized government policies regulating this issue of how to handle the retired public servants effectively.   Kata Kunci:  Pegawai Negeri Sipil, Masa Pensiun, Masalah Mental, Pelatihan, Ketrampilan.

Abstract

This essay tried to describe the social relationship between Malay and Chinese in Malaysia nowadays. Malay and Chinese are the largest ethnic group in Malaysia. These groups influence development of nation building. Their character, values and life perpective were implemented into their social life. Political journey and political economy of the state are resultant of cooperation, contestation, and conflict between these groups. According to official report, media and political discourse, both groups are based on different based and eventually located separatedly in almost every aspect of social life. However, the gap has not broken a stability and development of the state from agricultural to industrial. The social change is demonstrated into economic development, bussiness, economic share and ethno-religion management for a peace, stability, and development. Since a social change is very incremental and evolutional instead of reformation, revolution and ethnic war, scholars and social observer are missed to observed behind ethnic, culture, ethnic gap, familiarity and life perspective. Although they are different ethnic, in aspect of perspective, attitude and character, it is exhibited getting close each other instead of different and separated. Abstract

Political ethic in the life of nation state is a human effort to think basically about the goodness and wisdom of running all aspects in state and nation life. In order to find the answer, how the good living in state and nation can be applied, the political ethic not only relate to power and its system but also to human life. Therefore, politic cannot be given to politicians or political scientists. It needed a kind of humanity and ethics paradigms as human basic attitude that can be agreed by all citizens in the state. This article discuss about the important of political ethic in the life of state and nation today, especially for a country like Indonesia. Kata kunci: Ethics politic, wisdom, democracy

Abstract

The quality of public services and many more now is still out of order especially in public autonomy. In fact, it needs more conduct by the author (government) through  finding more solutions such as revitalization, restructure, deregulation and increasing the ability of officer professionalism and people participate to do, includes honor, and giving sanction, toward public services unit.
