Abstract

Fish meal is an important part of raw material for fish feed. However, the use of fish meal is considered unsustainable, compete with human being and expensive. By product of Anchovy (Stolephorus sp.) which contains high protein is potential to be used to replace fish meal. Present study aimed to determine the utilization of anchovy by-products raw materials as feed ingredient for seurukan fish (Osteochilus vittatus) and evaluate its effect on the growth performance and intestinal morphology. In total 250 seurukan fish (initial weight 0.67 ± 0.01 g) was randomly divided into four triplicates groups: control group, and experimental diets which had different inclusion level of anchovy by-products meal: 50%, 35%, and 20%. Fish were fed with different diet at level of 8% of body weight three times a day for 28 days. Present results showed that the inclusion of anchovy by-product meal in the feed by 50% can produce a higher value of weight gain (0.47±0.02 g), length gain (0.69±0.09 cm), SGR (2.20±0.51%) and feed efficiency (77.89±3.71%) compared to control feed (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in the survival rate and gut length ratio among groups of seurukan fish. Meanwhile, the average villi length and villi width of the seurukan fish fed experimental groups increased significantly compared to the control group (p<0.05). In conclusion, the 50% anchovy by-products meal inclusion in the diet of seurukan fish is beneficial to enhance growth, feed efficiency and improved feed absorption as indicated by histological analysis.

Abstract

Dry noodles are a staple food item among Asian population. Generally, it contains a low-fat and a high-carbohydrate level, however it lacks other nutrients, such as protein and dietary fiber. The addition of spirulina into dry noodles may increase both protein and dietary fiber. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of spirulina fortified in the dry noodle on physico-chemical and sensory properties. The method used in this study was experimental with a completely randomized design (CRD) using 4 replications. The spirulina powders added into dry noodles were 0%, 4%, 4.5%, 5%, 5.5%, 6% and 6.5%. The results showed the addition of spirulina in dry noodles had a significant effect (p<0.05) on nutritional values, such as protein, fat, ash, carbohydrate and dietary fiber. In addition, physical properties of fortified noodles, including cooking loss, elongation and tensile strength were also significant differences. For sensory attributes, noodles fortified with different concentrations of spirulina showed significant effects in appearance, aroma, color, taste and texture. A selected dry noodle fortified with 6% of spirulina based on the physico-chemical and sensory characterization. Abstract

Gouramy (Osphronemus gouramy Lac.) is one of the original fish from Indonesia that lives in fresh water and has high economic value because of its dense texture, high nutrition, and delicious taste so that it is widely favored by Indonesians. The results of juvenile cultivation activities have not been going well so far, this is because the growth of gouramy’s juvenile is slower than the growth of other freshwater fish’s juvenile. One alternative that can increase the growth and protein content of gouramy juvenile is to utilize of the availability of lamtoro seeds. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of feeding lamtoro seed fermentation on growth and protein content of gouramy’s juvenile. This study used experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD with 6 treatments and 4 replications). Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance Test (ANOVA) and further test in the form of Honest Significant Difference (Tukey HSD Test) at the 95% confidence level. The results showed that P3 with the addition of fermented lamtoro seed flour 40% can increase the growth and protein content of gouramy juvenile. The conclusion of this study was lamtoro seed fermented feed has effect in increasing growth and protein content of gouramy’s juvenile.

Abstract

Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a very important commodity, which accounts for almost 70% of the total world shrimp production. However, this production is still threatened by disease attacks, one of which is caused by white spot disease (WSD). Herbs are widely used as immunostimulants as an effort to prevent diseases. Black cumin (Nigella sativa) and stone breaker (Phyllanthus niruri) have long been known as excellent immunostimulants in human. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of N. sativa and its combination with P. niruri as an immunostimulant in L. vannamei for preventing WSD. Tested shrimp (±3.0 g) were treated by N. sativa (N), P. niruri (P) and the combination of both (1N:1P, 2/3N:1/3P, 3/4N:1/4P, 1/3N:2/3, 3/5N:2/5P, 1/4N: 3/4P, 2/5N:3/5P) through feed for 28 days. They were then infected by white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and observed for 7 days. The parameters observed included immune response and production performance.  N. sativa was able to reduce the mortality of test shrimp infected with WSSV, with an RPS value of 71%. N. sativa can be combined with P. niruri in the right composition (1/2N:1/2P and 2/3N:1/3P), while the other combinations are antagonistic. The administration of the best treatments in this study, relatively did not affect the value of total hemocyte count, phenoloxidase activity, respiratory burst activity, hemolymph clotting time and production performance of tested shrimp.

Abstract

Rasbora (Rasbora sp.) is one of the endemic freshwater fish species in East Java, which is currently being threatened due to environmental degradation, human activities and pollution. In East Java, it is known that there are several species of Rasbora (Rasbora sp.). Domestication is one method to preserve Rasbora in East Java, preceded by identifying potential species of Rasbora sp. from the natural catchment. This study aims to determine the diversity of Rasbora sp in East Java. Samples were taken at five different locations, specifically: Nganjuk (Brantas Watersheds), Ngawi (Bengawan Solo Watersheds, Silowo Springs Tuban, Umbulan Springs Pasuruan and the Setail Watersheds Banyuwangi. The main parameters observed were morphology and morphometry. The morphological analysis used identification guidelines, while morphometric data were obtained through 15 parameters measurement then analyzed using one-way Anova test on SPSS 25 software. Based on the morphological and morphometric analysis, it is known that the species of Rasbora in Nganjuk and Ngawi regencies are Rasbora argyrotaenia and the species of Rasbora in Tuban, Pasuruan and Banyuwangi regencies are Rasbora lateristriata. One-way Anova test showed Rasbora from the five locations were significantly different based on the result value of p<0.05.

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate for the first time in the region of Ouargla, Algeria, the events and timing of the embryonic development of African catfish, C. gariepinus  (Burchell, 1822). The embryonic development was carefully monitored using a binocular magnifier 10 and 20 lenses that reveal details on live specimens from fertilization to the first take of food. The offensive and foul odor continues to be the characteristic smell of the hatching stage. Pigmentation and continuous spread of cephalo-caudal melanophore in fry hatched on the first day. The barely hatched larvae are photo-phobic. The yellow reserve is reduced and leads to the ability to swim easily, and the majority starts feeding on the fourth day. The vitellin reserve is significantly reduced, allowing the larvae to feed exogenously. The events observed in our opinion demonstrate the presence of two exceptionally critical parameters: the use of a high-quality diet and the guarantee of a clean and quality source of water, meeting the standards of aquaculture farming.

Abstract

Problems in cultivating milkfish are disease outbreaks and the high cost of feed. Therefore, a breakthrough is needed to overcome this problem by adding medicinal plants, namely aloe vera, to the feed. This study aims at determining the effect of adding aloe vera to artificial feed on the blood cell profile and growth of milkfish seed. The research method used was a complete randomized design with 4 (four) treatments and 3 (three) replications. The treatments on the test feed used were: A, (giving aloe vera as much as 0 g/kg feed), B (giving aloe vera as much as 5 g/kg feed), C (giving aloe vera as much as 10 g/kg feed), and D (giving aloe vera as much as 15 g/kg feed). The results showed that blood glucose values were still within the normal range. The lowest value in treatment was A, which was 42 mg/dL, and the highest in treatment was D, which was 66 mg/dL. The lowest Hb value was found in treatment A (5.1 g/dL), and the highest was 7.2 g/dL, found in treatment D. The highest average growth rate was obtained in treatment D with increasing biomass of 3.81g. While the lowest growth was obtained in treatment A which resulted in average growth of  2.06g. Water quality during the study was suitable for milkfish rearing media, namely temperature of 27 - 31°C, pH of 7.2 -,7,8, and salinity of 25 - 27 ppt.

Abstract

Milkfish juvenile is the leading fishery species in Bali with an export value in 2019. The increase in demand is related to the intensification of aquaculture which causes various diseases, especially Viral Nervous Necrosis (VNN). VNN infection in juveniles has been through water media. The VNN infection in milkfish may occur vertically. This study aims to determine the vertical infection and prevalence of VNN in milkfish. The VNN examination was carried out using the reverse transcription real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) method. This research was conducted at BKIPM Denpasar. Samples were milkfish eggs taken from 15 spawning ponds in Gerogak District, Buleleng Regency. The results showed 3 positive samples from the 15 samples tested. A4 VNN positive sample with Ct 39.29 showed a virus concentration of 146 copies, Sample F positive for VNN with Ct 38.79 showing the 1978 copies of virus concentration, Sample G was positive for VNN with Ct 39.16 showing a virus concentration of 1588. Positive results of VNN examination on milkfish eggs with real time PCR indicates the presence of vertical transmission of VNN. It is also supported by measurement of water quality in milkfish spawning ponds shows the parameters of temperature, DO and pH in optimal and appropriate conditions standard. The results of the observation of clinical symptoms also show the condition of milkfish in a healthy state seen from swimming behavior that does not show symptoms of VNN infection. there are 3 positive samples in sample A4 with a virus concentration of 1,466 copies, sample F with a virus concentration of 1,978 copies and sample G with a virus concentration of 1,588. Detected VNN in eggs milkfish showed vertical VNN infection. Prevalence of infection. Milkfish egg against VNN shows a value of 20% which is included in the frequent infection category.
