Abstract

This research focuses on the utilization of book collections by senior students in the Tafsir and Hadith studies program as references for their thesis. The study aims to reveal the understanding of senior students in utilizing book collections as reference sources, employing a qualitative approach with interview and descriptive case study methods. Participants in the study were selected using purposive sampling from senior students in the mentioned program. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature reviews, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that students consider book collections as essential reading materials and sources of knowledge to support their thesis writing. Identified challenges include the limited and outdated nature of book collections, students' lack of awareness regarding the location of required collections, librarian services, and retrieval facilities. Therefore, it is recommended to make efforts to improve the availability and accessibility of book collections, as well as enhance students' understanding of utilizing informational resources in the library.

Abstract

Libraries are considered important to be able to manage, organize, store and collect collections of library materials systematically which are used as a source of information by users. The school library is a place of information especially for students, teachers and other school members. Through information literacy students will be able to learn independently, because it involves recognising when information is needed and being able to efficiently search, accurately evaluate, effectively use, and clearly communicate. The research method used was systematic literature review (SLR) and researchers conducted a literature search using the Publish or Perish (PoP) application using the Google Scholar database by reviewing with a search strategy using the keywords "school library AND children's information literacy", which were published in the last 3 years (2022-2024). The number of literature analyzed in this study was five. The results showed that the library always provides programmes that are used as innovations to increase the level of information literacy in children, not only that the role of parents and the surrounding environment also contributes to the success of these programmes.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the implementation of the National Standard for Special Libraries No. 7 of 2022 concerning worship house libraries at the Library of Masjid Raya Mujahidin Pontianak. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive case study approach focused on the implementation of the standard. Data collection techniques include interviews and observations, with interviews conducted with library managers. The findings reveal that the Library of Masjid Raya Mujahidin Pontianak has successfully met several prescribed standards, particularly in terms of collection provision and the availability of library staff. However, several indicators of the National Standard for Special Libraries No. 7 of 2022 have not yet been implemented, such as the provision of computer technology facilities, the absence of library promotion activities, and the lack of written policies on library management in accordance with the mandates of the standard. Key challenges include the absence of dedicated staff, limited technological facilities, unimplemented library standards, insufficient collection development, and minimal collaboration with external parties.

Abstract

Collaboration within the library is important where it provides benefits and promotes development. Here we discuss further the development of the ITENAS library material collection in the Chiness Corner Collaboration, using the research method, namely the descriptive qualitative method with an observational approach to directly observe the collection development process and interactions between library managers and users. This research shows that collaboration with Chinese Corner makes a significant contribution to the development of library material collections at the ITENAS Library. Library management actively coordinates with Chinese Corner staff to understand user needs regarding library materials. The process of selecting and acquiring library materials is carried out by considering user preferences and relevance to the Chinese Corner program. The observation results also reveal the importance of effective processing of library materials. The indexing and classification process is carried out carefully to ensure accessibility and easy search. Collaboration with Chinese Corner makes it possible to provide special space or shelves to display library materials related to China, making it easier for users to find and utilize these collections. Keywords: library, collection development, collaboration

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of AI Chatbot usage in academic information retrieval among students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. The research is motivated by the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology among Generation Z, particularly in the context of higher education. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed using a survey method, involving 404 respondents who completed a Likert-scale-based questionnaire. The results indicate that AI Chatbots are considered very effective, with the highest mean score of 4.2 in the response speed aspect. However, the accuracy and relevance of the information were rated as only moderately effective, with mean scores of 3.8 and 3.7, respectively. The chatbot is most frequently used for lecture-related needs (89.6%) and academic advising (73%), while its use for reference searches (46.3%) and administrative information (28.7%) remains limited. The primary challenge reported by students was difficulty in constructing appropriate prompts, with 88.1% experiencing such issues. The reliability test produced a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.827, indicating that the instrument used was reliable. These findings suggest that AI Chatbots hold potential to enhance academic information retrieval efficiency, although improvements are needed in contextual understanding and user interaction capabilities.
