Abstract

Postoperative patients undergoing general anesthesia are at risk of decreased oxygen saturation during the early recovery phase due to reduced consciousness, muscle relaxation, and upper airway obstruction. This condition requires appropriate airway management to maintain airway patency. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied is patient positioning in the sniffing position with the assistance of a neck roll pillow to support proper head and nack aligment. This study aimed to analyze the effect of using a neck roll pillow in the sniffing position on oxygen saturation postoperative patients under general anesthesia. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 36 respondents were selected using purposive sampling in the recovery room of RSU PKU Muhammadiyah Aghisna Kroya. Oxygen saturation (SpO2) was measured before and after the intervention using a pulse oximeter. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test due to non-normal data distribution. The results showed an increase in the mean oxygen saturation from 94.75% before the intervention to 99.22% after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the use of a neck roll pillow in the sniffing position has a significant effect on improving oxygen saturation in postoperative patients under general anesthesia. These findings are expected to be a simple, safe, and effective airway management intervention in the post-anesthesia recovery phase.

Abstract

Background: Sleep disturbances are a common problem among older adults and can reduce quality of life as well as trigger psychological complaints such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Yoga, as a non-pharmacological approach that combines light physical activity, breathing exercises, and relaxation, is considered safe and has the potential to improve sleep patterns and enhance well-being. This study aims to review the effectiveness of yoga exercise on sleep quality and quality of life in older adults. Methods: This study used a systematic literature review method with a search strategy based on the PICO framework and a selection process following PRISMA guidelines. From 521 identified articles, screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria resulted in 10 articles being included for analysis. Results: The review results indicate that yoga interventions for older adults generally lasted 4–12 weeks with a frequency of 2–6 sessions per week. Overall, yoga was associated with improved sleep quality, reduced psychological complaints, and better quality of life. Discussion: However, variations in intervention methods and outcome measures across studies may limit the comparability of results and the strength of conclusions. Conclusion: Yoga has the potential to be an effective complementary non-pharmacological intervention to improve sleep quality and quality of life in older adults; however, further research with stronger study designs and more standardized protocols is needed to strengthen the evidence.

Abstract

The elderly are a group that is vulnerable to cognitive decline due to the aging process, which can affect their psychological adaptation and resilience in facing physical, social, and emotional changes. Resilience is an important factor in maintaining the quality of life of the elderly, so the relationship between cognitive function and resilience levels needs to be further studied. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between cognitive function and resilience levels in the elderly. Method: This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Cognitive function was measured using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), while resilience levels were measured using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Data analysis included descriptive analysis, Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test, and correlation test. Results: The results showed that there was a positive relationship between cognitive function and resilience levels in the elderly, but the relationship was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). This indicates that improved cognitive function tends to be followed by increased resilience, but the relationship is not strong enough to be considered statistically significant. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a positive but insignificant relationship between cognitive function and resilience levels in older adults. Further research with a longitudinal design is needed, taking into account other supporting factors, in order to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the relationship

Abstract

The increase in the number of elderly people in Indonesia is a demographic phenomenon that has an impact on various aspects of life, especially physical and psychosocial health. The aging process causes the elderly to be vulnerable to experiencing a decline in physical function, chronic diseases, changes in social roles, and psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression that can reduce the quality of life. The quality of life of the elderly is not only influenced by physical conditions, but also by the ability to adapt to the pressures of life. Resilience as an individual's ability to rise and adapt to stressors is an important factor in maintaining the welfare of the elderly. However, the level of resilience in the elderly is not always optimal and there is still variation in quality of life among the elderly community. However, research that specifically examines the relationship between resilience levels and quality of life in community elders in Yogyakarta is still limited. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of resilience to quality of life in the elderly in Sanden District, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Methods: This study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. The research sample amounted to 120 elderly people aged ≥60 years. Resilience levels were measured using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD- RISC 25), while quality of life was measured using WHOQOL-BREF. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman correlation test. Results: Data analysis using the Spearman correlation test showed a significant relationship between the level of resilience and quality of life of the elderly with a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.294 and a significance value of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05). A positive relationship, which means that the higher the level of resilience, the better the quality of life of the elderly. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between resilience levels and quality of life in the elderly. Resilience plays an important psychosocial factor in supporting the quality of life of the elderly

Abstract

Introduction: With high death rates, tuberculosis (TB) is still a major worldwide health concern, especially in developing nations like Indonesia. Patient adherence to anti-tuberculosis medicine (OAT) for a minimum of six months has a significant impact on the efficacy of TB treatment. Treatment resistance, illness recurrence, and treatment failure can result from non-adherence. This study attempts to determine the internal and environmental variables that affect TB patients' medication adherence through a review of the literature. Methods: Article searches were conducted through Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Garuda, and DOAJ for the years 2022-2026. The keywords used were tuberculosis and medication adherence, internal and external factors. There were 13 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Results and Discussion: All of these publications' findings show that medicine adherence is strongly correlated with internal characteristics such as knowledge, motivation, self-efficacy, attitude, resilience, and trust. Patient adherence is also influenced by external variables, including pharmaceutical side effects, stigma, access to healthcare services, the role of medication supervisors (PMOs), family support, and social support. Conclusion: Based on the results of the literature review, medication adherence in tuberculosis patients is influenced by both internal and external factors, so comprehensive interventions involving family and healthcare workers are needed to improve the effectiveness of treatment.

Abstract

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury is a disorder of the knee joint that often causes instability and decreased movement function. In addition to structural damage, this injury also impacts the decline in proprioception, which plays a role in neuromuscular control. This decline can disrupt balance and coordination of movement, thereby increasing the risk of recurrent injury and limitations in daily functional activities. Therefore, proprioceptive training is an important intervention in rehabilitation to improve knee joint stability. Objective: To determine the effect of proprioceptive training on knee joint stability in patients with ACL injury. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. The study sample consisted of ACL injury patients who were given proprioceptive training intervention for a certain period. Knee stability measurements were performed using functional and balance test instruments, namely the Single Leg Balance Test and the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT). Method: The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. The study sample consisted of ACL injury patients who were given proprioceptive training intervention for a certain period. Knee stability measurements were performed using functional and balance test instruments. Results: The study showed a significant increase in knee joint stability after proprioceptive training. This was demonstrated by an increase in static and dynamic balance scores and motor control compared to before the intervention. The discussion shows that proprioceptive training can improve sensorimotor integration, resulting in more optimal muscle response to changes in joint position. Conclusion: Proprioceptive training has a positive effect on improving knee joint stability in patients with ACL injuries. This intervention can be recommended as an important part of a physiotherapy rehabilitation program to improve knee function and reduce the risk of recurrent injury.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition characterized by high blood glucose levels, often associated with insulin resistance. Increased consumption of sugary drinks among adolescents is considered a contributing factor to the increased risk of this condition. This study was conducted to explore the relationship between sugary drink consumption and diabetes risk in adolescents. The study used a literature review method, with sources obtained from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital). Articles included in this review were published between 2021 and 2026 and selected through a screening process, resulting in 13 relevant studies, most of which used a cross-sectional design. The findings showed that most studies reported a significant association between sugary drink consumption and a higher likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus in adolescents. High sugar intake can lead to increased blood glucose levels and contribute to insulin resistance. Furthermore, limited awareness of the effects of excessive sugar consumption also plays a role. Overall, this review concludes that frequent sugary drink consumption is associated with an increased risk of diabetes in adolescents, highlighting the importance of educational interventions to reduce intake and encourage early prevention.
