Abstract

National education transformation requires contextual, sustainable learning innovations rooted in the socio-cultural realities of students. This study aims to analyze the role of local community involvement and the utilization of local knowledge as learning resources in supporting the three pillars of education, as well as to identify student learning needs and teacher pedagogical competencies in the implementation of the CLEAR-based ADAB Project. This study uses a mixed methods approach with a convergent parallel design. The sample consisted of 123 respondents, comprising 21 teachers and 102 students from various educational levels and regions in Indonesia. Data were collected through closed and open questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively. The results showed that local community involvement and the integration of local knowledge significantly increased the relevance and meaningfulness of learning. Students need contextual, enjoyable, and relevant learning that is connected to real life. Meanwhile, teachers need to strengthen their pedagogical competencies in designing active, differentiated, and project-based learning. In addition, environmental education project learning integrated with issues of conservation, food security, and climate change has proven to be an effective strategy in building environmental literacy, character, and social awareness. These findings confirm that the synergy between local knowledge, community involvement, and teachers' pedagogical competence is an important foundation for realizing holistic, contextual, and sustainable education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of positive teaching as an instructional innovation in enhancing students’ cognitive learning outcomes and learning motivation in biology courses, particularly on reproductive system topics. Preliminary observations indicated low levels of cognitive achievement and learning motivation, primarily attributed to the continued use of conventional, teacher-centered instructional methods. To address this issue, the Positive Teaching approach emphasizing appreciation-based instruction, emotional support, and interactive learning environments was implemented in the experimental group, while the control group continued with conventional teaching methods. The study employed a non-randomized pretest–posttest control group design to examine differences in cognitive outcomes and learning motivation between the two groups. The results demonstrated that the implementation of Positive Teaching significantly improved both students’ cognitive learning outcomes and learning motivation. These improvements were associated with the creation of a supportive classroom climate, increased student self-confidence, and enhanced ability to relate biological concepts to real-life contexts. This study provides valuable insights into the development of more adaptive and holistic instructional strategies aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum framework and contributes to the growing body of literature on the positive impacts of Positive Teaching beyond psychology-based learning contexts.

Abstract

The ethnoscience study has become an important approach in revealing the relationship between local knowledge and modern scientific concepts, particularly in traditional food processing practices. One form of this local wisdom is reflected in a typical Minangkabau dish, dendeng pucuk ubi, which is developed in Nagari Simarasok. This study aims to analyze the ethnoscientific elements contained in the processing of dendeng pucuk ubi and to examine the scientific and cultural values underlying it. The method used is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach, employing observation techniques, in-depth interviews with local communities, and documentation. The results show that the processing of dendeng pucuk ubi is not merely a culinary activity but also contains scientific principles, including biological aspects (nutritional content of cassava leaves as a source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals), chemical aspects (changes in compounds during cooking and drying processes), and physical aspects (the influence of temperature and processing techniques on texture and shelf life). In addition, this practice reflects local wisdom values such as sustainable utilization of natural resources, togetherness in the cooking process, and preservation of the cultural identity of the Simarasok community. Therefore, dendeng pucuk ubi is valuable not only as a food product but also as a medium for integrating culture and science, which is relevant for the development of contextual learning. This research is expected to contribute to strengthening ethnoscience-based education as well as preserving traditional culinary heritage.
