Abstract

Cigarettes have thousands of free chemical compounds that contain harmful toxicity so that they can attack the body system, especially in the respiratory tract. One of the effects of smoking is the onset of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which contributes to the high number of diseases that cause death in the world. So that health education is needed using social media Instagram with the topic “Stop Smoking as Prevention of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease”. The service aims to determine the community's response on Instagram social media after watching health education content on the dangers of smoking as a major risk factor for COPD. The data analysis method used is descriptive quantitative and qualitative based on the type and number of responses that have been given by the community in the comments column. The content was presented in the form of videos, animations, and posters that included information on the definition, prevalence, causes, signs and symptoms, risk factors, impacts, treatments, and prevention of COPD. Within six days, there were 634 likes and 106 comments from respondents. In the comments section, 82 respondents (77%) agreed with the message conveyed in the content. A total of 7 respondents (6.7%) admitted that it was still difficult to leave cigarettes after watching the content, and 17 respondents (16%) stated that they were passive smokers. Qualitative results showed three themes including difficulties in quitting smoking, awareness and empathy, and appreciation of the content. This health education program through social media about COPD received positive responses, providing new knowledge about this disease and the importance of quitting smoking to the general public. In addition, it is recommended to conduct continuous health education to reduce the number of active and passive smokers. Keywords: Health education, campaign, smoking, COPD, social media

Abstract

Sports accidents can have a very significant impact on various aspects of life. However, public knowledge regarding this still needs to be improved and uneven, so it is essential to disseminate information related to preventing and handling sports accidents. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on public knowledge in the prevention and early handling of sports accidents. This study was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pre-post-test approach. The research sample consisted of 230 respondents and was conducted using an accidental sampling technique. Data analysis was done by looking at the difference in pre-test and post-test values using the Wilcoxon difference test. The results of the study showed that before health education was given, the average value of respondents' knowledge was 59.30 ± 26.21.Meanwhile, after being given health education, the average score increased to 84.87 ± 20.27. Bivariate analysis showed a statistically significant difference with a p-value <0.001. This shows a difference in public knowledge about sports accidents before and after being given health education. There is a need for activities like this to be carried out in other communities and society in general so that the dissemination of information and public understanding related to sports accidents will improve and the impact of delays in handling injuries can be minimized. Keywords: Health education; knowledge; sports accidents.

Abstract

Extrinsic stain is a staining of teeth that is attached directly to the surface of the tooth. Disorders caused by stains are causing aesthetic problems that can have a considerable psychological impact, especially if they occur in the anterior tooth. Stains are difficult to clean just by brushing your teeth. Utilizing natural strawberry ingredients as Stain Removal Strips for an alternative to cleaning extrinsic stains on the surface of teeth. Proven administration of Stain Removal Strips strawberry extract (Fragaria x Ananassa) effectively cleans extrinsic stains on the surface of teeth. This study used the Quasy experimental method with a pretest posttest design with control group. Research sampling was carried out by purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 20 people divided into 2 groups. The control group with 6% hydrogen peroxide strips and the intervention group with 40% strawberry extract stain removal strips twice a day with a duration of 30 minutes for 7 days. The results showed that giving strawberry extract Stain Removal Strips was 40% effective in cleaning extrinsic stains on day 3 and day 7 against extrinsic stains on the tooth surface with values of p = 0.009 and p = 0.002 (p < 0.05) compared to the control group. Stain Removal Strips 40% strawberry extract has potential as an alternative to cleaning extrinsic stains on tooth surfaces. Keywords: Strawberry, Extrinsic Stain.

Abstract

Evidence suggests that cold therapy (cold spray) may be recommended with low confidence for reducing swelling in acute soft tissue injuries among athletes. However, the effect of cold therapy on the mechanical function of muscles remains unclear. This study aims to explore the effects of cold therapy application as a treatment strategy to reduce pan in acute sport injuries. Data collection was conducted in April 2024. We present a case of an acute knee injury in a 16-year-old male during a football tournament. He reported pain with a VAS score of 8 (on a scale of 1 to 10). The patient received cold spray as first aid for his knee injury. However, reassessment revealed that the pain level did not decrease. Several factors may influence the effectiveness of cold spray in reducing pain, including the type of affected nerve fibers, duration of the intervention, history of repeated injuries, size of the injured area, and improper spraying technique. Cold spray is effective in reducing pain and inflammation in superficial tissues. However, in acute injuries involving deeper tissues, cold spray does not significantly alter the pain level. Its effectiveness in reducing inflammatory responses in deeper tissues remains uncertain and warrants further investigation. Keywords: acute pain, cold therapy, foot injury

Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension among adolescents continues to rise both nationally and globally. Hypertension at a young age often goes undetected and carries the risk of leading to serious complications later in life, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney failure, and even death. The lack of adolescent knowledge regarding risk factors, symptoms, prevention, and the long-term impact of hypertension remains a major barrier to effective health promotion and prevention efforts. This activity aimed to enhance adolescent knowledge of hypertension—its definition, risk factors, symptoms, prevention, and management—through a structured, interactive educational class program. The program was implemented on three main stages: preparation, implementation (including material presentation and discussion), and evaluation through pre- and post-tests to a total of 29 student representatives from schools and universities in Padang City, with an average age of 18 years, participated. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores (p < 0.001), with mean pre-test and post-test scores of 15.04 ± 2.6 and 18.52 ± 0.94, respectively (Δ = 3.48). Significant improvements were observed in general knowledge of hypertension, risk factors, symptoms and consequences, dietary prevention strategies, and hypertension management (p < 0.01). These findings indicate that the educational class program was effective in improving adolescent health literacy regarding hypertension. It is recommended that this health education intervention be expanded to strengthen hypertension prevention efforts among young age groups. Keywords: Adolescent hypertension, educational class program, prevention, healthy behavior.

Abstract

Edema is a common complication in patients with chronic kidney disease (GGK) caused by fluid retention and electrolyte imbalance, leading to discomfort, limited mobility, and reduced quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions such as a combination of ankle pump exercise and 30° leg elevation are known to reduce edema by improving venous and lymphatic return. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of combining ankle pump exercise and 30° leg elevation in reducing the degree of edema in GGK patients. This case study employed an Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) approach involving two GGK patients in the Male Internal Ward of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The intervention patient received a combination of ankle pump exercise and 30° leg elevation along with pharmacological therapy (furosemide), while the control patient received only standard pharmacological therapy. The intervention was conducted for four consecutive days, three times daily, for 30 minutes per session. The degree of edema was assessed using the pitting edema method by Brodovicz before and after the intervention. The results showed a reduction in edema degree from degrees 3 to degrees 2 in the intervention patient, while the control patient experienced an increase from degrees 3 to degrees 4. This finding indicates that the combination of ankle pump exercise and 30° leg elevation effectively reduces edema through calf muscle contractions that promote venous return and gravitational effects that lower hydrostatic pressure in the lower limbs. This intervention is safe, inexpensive, easy to perform, and can be integrated into daily nursing practice. In conclusion, the combination of ankle pump exercise and 30° leg elevation is an effective, evidence-based, non-pharmacological nursing intervention to reduce the degree of edema in GGK patients and can serve as an alternative to improve patient comfort. Keywords: Chronic kidney disease, edema, ankle pumping exercise, 30° leg elevation.

Abstract

Dengue is a viral infectious disease with a wide spectrum of clinical severity, ranging from mild dengue to severe forms with serious complications. Hematologic markers such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been studied as prognostic indicators in various infections, including dengue. Method This was an observational analytic cross-sectional study involving 128 dengue patients admitted to H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. Demographic data and laboratory parameters were analyzed using correlation and comparison tests across severity levels. The median values of NLR and PLR were 3.18 and 53.4, respectively. A positive correlation was observed between NLR and dengue severity, while PLR showed a decreasing trend as severity increased. The lowest PLR values were found in patients with DHF grade II and DSS. NLR and PLR have potential as prognostic biomarkers for predicting the severity and complications of dengue virus infection. Further studies with larger populations are needed for validation. Keywords: Biomarker, dengue,  severity.

Abstract

Sepsis is the most common cause of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Diagnosis of AKI based on serum creatinine (sCr) has limitations, sCr increases only after >50% kidney function is lost. uACR examination is a simple test to assess microalbuminuria which reflects impaired kidney function. Analyzing the correlation between uACR and AKI incidence in sepsis patients treated at Adam Malik Hospital. The study design was observational analytic with prospective cohort design. Samples were taken consecutively. Sepsis diagnosis was based on qSOFA score. uACR and sCr I were checked <24 hours after sepsis was diagnosed, sCr II was rechecked 48 hours later to assess the occurrence of AKI. Data were analyzed using SPSS. There were 52 study subjects, predominantly male (57,7%), with an average age of 52,5±16,42 years, and the most common source of infection was the lungs (82,7%). AKI occurred in 46,2% of study subjects. The AUC area of uACR as a predictor of AKI was 75,2%. The independent variable that significantly influenced AKI was uACR (p<0,001). The uACR cut-off was 225 mg/g, with a sensitivity of 83,3%, a specificity of 67,9% and an accuracy rate of 75%. uACR levels ≥225 mg/g had a 10,556 times risk of AKI. There is a significant correlation between uACR and the incidence of AKI so it can be used as a predictor of AKI in sepsis patients. Keywords: Acute kidney injury, albuminuria, rasio albumin kreatinin, sepsis.

Abstract

Language development in early childhood is a fundamental foundation for the formation of thinking, communication, and social skills. This research aims to explore in-depth and develop effective strategies for stimulating early childhood language development, as well as to identify challenges and solutions through the implementation of Action Research in two Early Childhood Education (ECE) institutions in Bandung City. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a dual case study design combined with Action Research. The study was conducted at PAUD Rumah Bintang and PAUD Alamanda, Bandung City, involving teachers, students, and principals as subjects. The Action Research design was applied in two cycles, encompassing planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies directly in the field. Data collection involved participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman with triangulation techniques for data validity. The research findings indicate that the implementation of Action Research successfully optimized diverse language stimulation strategies, including read-aloud practices and interactive conversations, adapted to the unique context of each ECE institution. Another key finding is the adaptive strategies in addressing challenges such as limited resources and children's diverse language backgrounds, with solutions emerging from the cycle of reflection and field-based improvement. This study recommends the Action Research approach as an effective framework for ECE educators and institutions to continuously develop and tailor language learning strategies. Keywords: Action research, childdDevelopment, early childhood, language development, learning strategies.
