Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students caused by the underutilization of science laboratory facilities in some Kwara State Upper Basic Schools need to reveal. Thus, this research aimed 1) to analyze the effect of science laboratory utilization by the teachers and their experience on the students' learning outcomes, 2) to analyze the effect of science laboratory utilization by male and female teachers on the students learning outcomes, and 3) to analyze the effect of science laboratory utilization by experienced teachers to the students' learning outcomes. It is ex post facto research with multiple linear regression analysis due to its two independent variables. This research took both public and private upper primary school teachers in Kwara State, Nigeria, as the population. Forty-seven Public and Private Upper Basic Schools in all parts of the state are taken as samples randomly in this research. There were 100 basic science teachers taken as respondents. This research reported that 1) teachers’ utilization of science laboratory based on gender and experience in teaching science simultaneously influence students' learning outcomes with value Sig. 0,00 < 0,05, 2) the utilization of the science laboratory by the male and female teachers did not significantly influence the students' learning outcomes, with value Sig. Equal variances assumed 0,017 < 0,05, and 3) the utilization of a science laboratory by experienced teachers in teaching basic science significantly influenced one student’s learning outcomes.

Abstract

The vegetation of the Karangsari rehabilitation zone of Mount Ciremai National Park vegetation consists of several trees that grow together and interact with each other. This study aimed to determine species diversity and dominant tree associations in the rehabilitation zone of Karangsari Block, Mount Ciremai National Park. Field data collection using the checkered line method on a predetermined number of sampling plots. Furthermore, it was analyzed using the Important Value Index (IVI) to determine the dominant tree species and to determine the association relationship using a 2 x 2 contingency table. The study found 22 tree species with a diversity index value of 1.4. The dominant trees found in the study area were tusam (Pinus merkusii), saninten (Castanopsis argantea), anggrit (Nauclea sp), and avocado (Persea americana). There are six pairs of association relationships between dominant trees four pairs are positive and two are negative. This information is essential for future management of the use zone.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve students' science process skills by applying modified free inquiry, which is a modification of two approaches: guided inquiry and free inquiry. The research method used is true-experimental design. The instruments used are test questions with indicators of science process skills and observation sheets on implementing the modified free inquiry learning model. The data collection technique was descriptive and quantitative with hypothesis testing using a nonparametric test Two Independent Sample Test, the Mann-Whitney test, and the gain score pretest and posttest. The results showed an increase in science process skills with an N-Gain value in the experimental class of 0.87 and the control class of 0.19. The results of hypothesis testing using the Mann-Whitney test obtained a significance value of 0.000 < 0.005, and the observation sheet on the modified free inquiry learning model was obtained 100% well implemented. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that modified free inquiry can be used as a learning model that can be applied to biology learning and improve science process skills.

Abstract

This research aimed to produce knowledge-based leaflets and community attitudes about organic farming to improve students' ecological literacy. This research development was done based on the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) Data on community knowledge and attitudes about organic farming were obtained from questionnaires and interviews with 20 farmers. The data is implemented into leaflets. Leaflet validation was carried out by design experts, material experts, and science teachers. Limited trials to determine student responses were given to eight students. The score obtained from the validation by design experts is 49.5 or 82.5% (good). The validation results by material experts are 50.5 or 84% (good). The science teacher validation scored 45.25 or 90.5 (good). The trial by eight students obtained a percentage of 91.6% with a positive response. The results of the normalized gain score showed an increase in learning with an average score of 0.61 in the experimental class (high). The independent t-test is -4.058, at df 58, the significance value is 5%, t-table value is 2.00. Thus, it can be concluded that the leaflet developed is effective in increasing students' ecological literacy. At df 58, the significance value is 5%, and the t-table value is 2.00. Abstract

Ikan lais (Kryptopterus palembangensis) merupakan salah satu ikan endemik yang ada di Sumatera Selatan. Ketersediaan ikan lais di alam mulai menurun karena penangkapan yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat secara terus menerus akan mengganggu kelestarian ikan lais. Diketahui nilai ekonomis yang tinggi menjadi penyebabnya. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan upaya untuk pengembangan budidaya ikan lais agar dapat diproduksi secara terkontrol. Metode penulisan yang digunakan yaitu studi pustaka. Adapun teknologi dan manajemen dari ikan lais diantaranya perbedaan padat tebar pada keramba jaring apung, pemberian jenis pakan berbeda, perendaman larva pada larutan probiotik, pengaruh perbedaan suhu dan pematangan gonad dengan mineral Fe. Kemudian untuk rata-rata kualitas air dalam pertumbuhan ikan lais adalah suhu 25,20-32,00 ºC, kisaran pH sebesar 4,70-7,90, DO 2,60-8,00 mg L-1 dan kandungan amonia berkisar 0,010-2,000 mg L-1. Ikan lais termasuk dalam kelompok ikan karnivora karena jenis makanan utamanya adalah ikan kecil, insekta dan udang. Pada ikan yang diteliti secara terkontrol, pakan menggunakan Tubifex sp. memberikan pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup yang tertinggi. Pemijahan ikan lais baji satu kali dalam setahun dengan pola pemijahan total spawner di musim penghujan yang dimana pada saat permukan air mulai naik dan pemijahan dilakukan di dalam celah-celah bebatuan. Gambaran sel darah merupakan aspek pendukung dalam menentukan status kesehatan ikan. Kondisi fisiologis ikan yang sehat ditandai dengan adanya pertumbuhan yang meningkat. Fisiologis pertumbuhan ikan lais dalam keadaan sehat yaitu, total eritrosit 264,00 ± 3,00 x104 sel mm-3, hemoglobin 8,3±0,11 g/dL, hematokrit 26,66±0,57 %, total leukosit 2,53±0,01 x 104 sel mm-3 dan Glukosa darah 89,00 ± 1,00 mg/dL

Abstract

This literature study aims to describe the utilization of the iNaturalist application (https://www.inaturalist.org/) in biology research and learning activities. iNaturalist is an Online Citizen Science (OCS) application available on the web and Android (Apps) platforms. This application has various features for collecting, identifying, and mapping varied biodiversity worldwide. It is suitable for biodiversity research and can also be used in learning biology on relevant concepts such as biodiversity, ecology, environment, plantae, animalia, and others. This article will discuss the advantages of the iNaturalist application, how to use it, and the utilization of the application in learning biology. The working principle of the iNaturalist application is to utilize artificial intelligence technology in the form of image processing so that it can identify various uploaded biodiversity data. This application offers community learning, the process of identifying research data involving the iNaturalist community worldwide. The way the iNaturalist application works is that users record data, share data with fellow naturalists and discuss research results. iNaturalist in research can be used for collecting, identifying, and publishing ecological, environmental, and biodiversity research data. The use of iNaturalist application in learning can be used in biology learning to train science process skills, especially observation skills, biodiversity learning, taxonomy learning, and research skills. In addition, this application supports Citizen Science activities that are suitable for use in education biology because it can create contextual and collaborative learning.

Abstract

The habit of people who live in cities and villages likes instant smells, for example, consuming soft drinks. One of the soft drinks popular in the community is carbonated drinks. This study aims to determine the effect of carbonated drinks on blood glucose levels of mice. This study used 21 male mice Balb C strain aged 2-3 months, which was divided into 3 groups, namely K1 given aquadest dose of 0.86 ml / 20 g body weight. K2 is given a carbonated drink dose of 0.43 ml / 20 g body weight. K3 was given a carbonated drink dose of 0.86 ml / 20 g body weight. All treatments were given for 14 days. The average increase in blood glucose levels of mice in KI, K2, and K3 were 16.71 mg / dl, 11.63 mg / dl, and 67.59, respectively (P<0.05). The results of the study showed that there was an increase in blood glucose levels in all treatments. However, the highest increase in blood glucose levels is in K3 (67.59 mg / dl). From the results of the study, it was concluded that carbonated drinks can affect blood glucose levels in mice, but this increase is still within normal limits.

Abstract

Ethnobotany of medicinal plants is a botanical science that studies using plants as drugs to treat a disease. This study aimed to determine the types of plants, processing methods, usage methods, and the use value (UV) of plants used as medicine by local people in Kayuara Sakti Village. The research method used is descriptive exploratory. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The research sample consisted of 49 people in Kayuara Sakti Village. They are collecting data using interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis in this study is qualitative and quantitative. The results of this study obtained the following data: (1) The types of medicinal plants used by local communities in Kayuara Sakti Village are 100 species belonging to 50 families. Diseases that are often treated are diseases that are commonly suffered by the community. (2) The method of processing medicinal plants is by boiling (44%), pounding/mashing (14), grated and squeezing (13%), brewing (7%), cooking and splitting (5%), without processing (4%), kneaded (3%), burned (2%), soaked, rolled, crushed, roasted and withered (1%). (3) The way to use medicinal plants is by drinking (57%), eating (16%), smearing (10%), dripping (3%), plugging and bathing (2%), and gargling, chewing, and rubbed (1%). (4) Use value (UV) medicinal plants used by the community are 0,02-0,81. The species with the highest value is turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.).

Abstract

Penelitian ini termasuk ke dalam penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode SLNA yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil analisis bahan ajar berbasis komputer pada pembelajaran bioteknologi. Bahan ajar berbasis komputer berisikan materi-materi ajar dengan menggunakan komputer sebagai media pembelajaran efektif. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu bahan ajar komputer pada pembelajaran bioteknologi itu sendiri. Pada penelitian ini juga peneliti melakukan analisis sebanyak 25 artikel yang telah difiltrasi berdasarkan topik bahan ajar komputer. Analisis tersebut dimuat dalam beberapa komponen seperti judul, tahun, doi, author, metode, hasil analisis, dan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Bibliometrix tools (Aplikasi metode SLNA) sebagai media yang digunakan dalam menganalisis artikel-artikel tersebut. Dari penelitian ini maka diperoleh kesimpulan penggunaan bahan ajar komputer menghasilkan pengaruh positif yang hasilkan yaitu bersifat efektif dan fleksibel dalam pembelajaran bioteknologi karena dapat memvisualisasikan materi ajar kedalam bentuk gambar, video, suara sehingga memberi kesan yang tidak membosankan saat kegiatan pembelajaran berlangsung.

Abstract

There is no research on the study of Apis mellifera using bibliometrix tools. This study aims to determine the results of the study of Apis mellifera in a role perspective using Bibliometrix Tools. This study uses an approach that uses the Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) method assisted by bibliometrix tools in the form of four applications OpenRefine, VOSviewer, Bibliometrix, and Tableau Public. The data source used is the Scopus database. This study uses a confirmability test. Journals that publish many articles about Apis mellifera include Apidologie, Insects, and Scientific Reports. Authors who publish a lot of articles about Apis mellifera include Neumann P number 32, Chen Y and Le Conte Y number 20. The years that published a lot of articles about Apis mellifera are 2021 and 2020. The theme network consists of 5 clusters the farther the distance between topics it means that people rarely research about the topic/theme. Apis mellifera is the dominant pollinating insect that helps in the process of pollinating many plants such as blueberries and other roles, namely as medicine, from propolis to honey bee cocoons. Meanwhile, the detrimental role caused by Apis mellifera honey bees and other pollinating insects is as a vector of diseases that causes the carrying of bad bacteria that can attack plants which of course will reduce production yields.
