Abstract

The study, entitled “Scientific Approach To Improve GeoGebra aided Mathematical Problem Solving”, held in Mathematics Education, the Faculty of Education, Siliwangi University Tasikmalaya in Subjects Calculus 1. This research was conducted in order to follow up the results of previous studies the researchers did in Mathematics Education courses on learning styles. Research conducted by the author on a scientific approach to learning Calculus 1using GeoGebra Software. This study uses Mix Method with the sample consists of two classes, one experimental class using GeoGebra aided scientific approach and experimental class 2 uses a scientific approach is not aided software GeoGebra , Instruments used Mathematical Problem Solving Problem Tests, Observation Sheet, and Software GeoGebra. Posttest results showed the increased of normalized gain experimental 1 class better than experiment 2 class. The results of this research is produce output in the form of used textbooks and published journals.

Abstract

The issue examined in this study was about the low learning outcomes. The focus of the study discussed was the factors that influenced the learning outcomes, which was the learning model. The learning model chosen was the CORE learning model. The purpose of this study was to invetigate the problem of students' achievement of mathematical connection ability between the learning of using the CORE approach and ordinary learning. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a test design of posttest only control group design. Sampling in this study was using simple random sampling. This was done because the sample members were chosen in proportion. This research was conducted to the students of one of the universities in Karawang. The data collection method was a test, the test instrument was included a mathematical connection ability test. Indicators and variables measured in this study were the level of mathematical connection ability which included the posttest value of the mathematical connection ability test. The data were collected then analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and inferencial statistics (t-test). Based on data analysis, the achievement of mathematical connection abilities of the students who studied using CORE learning were better than those who studied using expository learning. The achievement of students' mathematical connection skills in the class who studied using the CORE approach was categorized as high while those in the class who studied using expository learning were categorized as medium. Thus, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in student learning outcomes between the learning using CORE approach and using expository learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the positive influence of constructivist approach to students’ mathematical critical thinking skills and to investigate the students’ attitude towards the use of a constructivist approach. Population in this study were all students of 2014 batch of economic education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Siliwangi University. The sample used was purposive random sampling for consideration, taken two class of five existing classes. One class was class D become an experimental class that used a constructivist approach and the other class was class B become control class using conventional learning model. Data in this study were taken through the test of critical thinking skills and attitude questionnaires that were given in the experimental class. Data were analysed by the average difference test and attitude scale. The results showed a positive effect of the use of constructivism approach toward students’ mathematical critical thinking skills and students showed a positive attitude to the use of a constructivist approach.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the difference of Mathematics Problem Solving (KPMM) of PGSD STKIP Garut students between groups who get learning Mathematic In Context (MIC) with those who get conventional learning (PK) in Mathematics Elementary Class of Low Class. The analytical technique for testing the difference of KPMM from the two data groups was used the two-tension difference test (t-test) and the proportion test to determine the quality of KPMM from both groups. Based on the result of research indicate that KPMM student of PGSD on MIC learning is significantly better than student who get PK. The quality of KPMM ability of the students who get MIC learning is in sufficient qualification classification, whereas KPMM students who get PK are in less classification.Keywords: Mathematical problem solving, mathematic in context

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of cooperative learning model Student Facilitator and Explaining on students’ mathematical understanding. The population in this study were students in seventh-grade students in academic year 2012/2013. Two classes were randomly selected as the samples, one class become experiment treated by cooperative learning model Student Facilitator and Explaining and other class become control treated by direct instructional model. The research used instruments of mathematics comprehension test and questioners. Data were analyzed using two different test average. The results showed a positive effect of applying cooperative learning model Student Facilitator and Explaining to students’ mathematical understanding. There was a positive attitude of students towards learning using a cooperative model of Student Facilitator and Explaining.

Abstract

Geometri merupakan salah satu materi yang sangat penting dalam pembelajaran matematika. Hanya saja, pada kenyataannya tidak sedikit siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahai konsep geometri yang diajarkan. Salah satu materi geometri yang dianggap sulit adalah materi dimensi tiga yang diberikan kepada siswa kelas X SMA khususnya mengenai konsep jarak. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di salah satu SMA di Kota Tasikmalaya dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 32 siswa kelas X. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan peneliti tentang learning obstacle yang dialami siswa ditinjau dari epistemological dan didactical obestacle, bahwa hambatan belajar siswa dalam materi dimensi tiga terletak pada  (1) menentukan letak hasil proyeksi suatu titik terhadap garis, (2) menentukan letak hasil proyeksi suatu titik terhadap bidang, dan (3) membuat dan mengenali bentuk sebuah bidang yang memuat titik dan memuat ruas garis pada bidang tersebut (yang memuat hasil proyeksi titik). Untuk meminimalisis learning obstacle tersebut, peneliti menyusun Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) agar siswa mampu memahami konsep jarak pada dimensi tiga secara lebih optimal. HLT pada pembelajaran materi jarak antara titik dengan garis meliputi: concept by definition, projection, making a plane, dan distance, sedangkan untuk HLT pada pembelajaran materi jarak antara titik dengan bidang meliputi: concept by definition, finding a segment, projection, making a plane, dan distance. Kata Kunci:   epistemological didactical obstacle, hypothetical learning trajectory, jarak pada bangun ruang

Abstract

This research is an experimental study with a quantitative approach to analyse of the students reasoning ability through the application of cooperative learning model TPS. The population in this study were all students of islamic junior high schools (MTs) at the intermediate level of the 2012/2013 academic years in Tasikmalaya. The sample of this study were all students of MTs Nurul Falah taken randomly, and class VIII-B was chosen consisted of 35 students as experimental class and class VIII-C as control class. The instrument used in this study was included the ability of mathematical reasoning test. The analysis of the data used two different average test and ANOVA test using two lines of General Linear Model Univariate Analysis. Based on the results of this study, it has been found that (1) The improvement of reasoning ability and problem-solving ability of students who learned mathematic using cooperative model is better than those who learn mathematic using conventional model, (2) there are improvement differencies of reasoning ability and mathematical problem solving between the students who learn mathematic using cooperative learning model TPS type and students who learn mathematic using conventional model in terms of high-level capabilities, medium, and low, and (3) there is an interaction between learning and mathematical prior knowledge of students group (high, medium, low) in reasoning ability.

Abstract

Understanding of a/b form is very important as the basis of proportional reasoning. This study discusses the interference of students thinking in understanding a/b form. This research uses qualitative research type with research subject of the prospective teacher of the second semester. The results of the study found that subjects experienced interference about the a/b form as a fraction, which should be as a form of comparison. Knowledge of fractions disturbs comparative knowledge, so the subject is wrong in understanding the a/b form. In addition, the subjects did not understand the simplification of distribution.

Abstract

Batik Sukapura merupakan salah satu identitas bangsa Indonesia yang melambangkan budaya masyarakat Sunda. Batik Sukapura digunakan masyarakat Sunda sebagai pakaian yang formal dan bernilai sakral. Sejumlah penelitian tentang batik telah banyak berkembang, namun lebih kepada pengembangan teknologi membatik. Tujuan penelitian ini membahas tentang teori semiotika yang diterapkan pada Batik Sukapura untuk mencari makna filosofis dari motif-motifnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi. Peneliti mengobservasi beberapa pengusaha batik senior yang masih bertahan dengan industrinya di daerah Sukaraja Tasikmalaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa batik Sukapura memiliki banyak konsep geometri dan sejumlah keteraturan. Sejarah batik Sukapura dimulai dari para pengrajin batik dari Jawa Tengah yang pindah ke Jawa Barat akibat terjadinya peperangan. Saat ini batik tulis semakin terdistorsi akibat perkembangan jaman yang berpindah ke batik cetak bahkan batik digital-printing. Ciri khas batik Sukapura adalah bermotif alam. Dari sudut pandang semiotika, tanda-tanda dari motif ini bukan sekedar pola dan keteraturan matematis namun memiliki makna dan pesan moral yang sangat sesuai dengan falsafah hidup masyarakat Sunda. Penggabungan kajian semiotika dan matematika ini dianggap mampu memberikan penguatan kepada para siswa dalam memaknai nilai-nilai etnomatematika sebagai upaya mengembalikan status matematika yang saat ini dipandang terpisah dari budaya (culturally-free).Kata kunci: sejarah batik sukapura, semiotika
