Abstract

The publication of mathematics education research results has increased and developed from time to time, especially in accredited national journals. This study aims to provide an overview of research trends in the field of mathematics education published in Southeast Asian Mathematics Education Journal (SEAMEJ) and identify future mathematics education research opportunities. This research is a scoping literature review using the five-stage Arksey O'Malley framework. The review was conducted on 20 articles in the field of mathematics education published in Southeast Asian Mathematics Education Jornal (SEAMEJ) in the period 2021-2022. The result of research on the topic of mathematics education research in the past were dominated by the design of learning model changing towards teaching materials used in learning. Mathematical method will also evolve over time. Mathematics education research in the past still used a lot of quantitative approaches and changed to qualitative approaches. The subjects of mathematics education research were dominated by junior high school students. It is hoped that further research can broaden the observed dimensions, for example on the topic of mathematics education research studies to be able to study ethnomathematics.

Abstract

Overcoming cognitive load is very necessary so that the learning material delivered by teachers can be constructed by students, so that students gain meaningful knowledge and experience. Thus, learning mathematics using a Realistic Mathematics Education approach based on the local wisdom of the Dayak Tribe is important to apply to overcome the cognitive load of students in Central Kalimantan. The objectives of this research are 1) To find out whether e-book buying and selling material using a Realistic Mathematics Education approach based on local Dayak wisdom can meet the criteria for being suitable for use; 2) To find out whether e-book buying and selling material using a Realistic Mathematics Education approach based on local Dayak wisdom can overcome the cognitive load of students in Central Kalimantan. This research uses the Research and Development (RnD) method with a 4-D model developed by Thiagarajan. The development steps are definition, design, development and dissemination. The data collection technique is a Likert Scale to determine whether the product being developed meets feasibility. The research results show that 1) e-book buying and selling material using a Realistic Mathematics Education approach based on local Dayak wisdom meets the appropriate criteria; 2) e-book buying and selling material with a Realistic Mathematics Education approach based on local Dayak wisdom can overcome the cognitive load of students in Central Kalimantan

Abstract

This study aims to develop a math concept learning simulator with the help of a sketchpad geometer, so that the products resulting from this research can be utilized by teachers and students. Products developed using the ADDIE model development method and data collection techniques through filling out questionnaires and sheet validation. Sources of data that have been taken in this study are teacher responses, student responses, assessments from material experts and the media on the quality of the teaching simulator for teaching mathematical concepts with the help of the resulting sketchpad geometer. Based on the results of data collection and analysis that has been carried out, the results obtained are 1) development of a simulator media for learning mathematical concepts assisted by a sketchpad geometer using the ADDIE method (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation), 2) a media simulator for learning mathematical concepts assisted by a sketchpad geometer is very feasible for use in the mathematics learning process, 3) the teacher's response to the use of the simulator media for teaching mathematical concepts assisted by positive geometric sketches, 4) the interest of students in the learning process using the simulator media for learning mathematical concepts assisted by geometric sketches is very high.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mathematics learning device based on Case Based Learning (CBL) integrated with digital comics media for the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) for junior high school students. The method used is Research and Development (RD) with the ADDIE model, encompassing analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Validation involved subject matter experts, media experts, and limited trials with students. The results show that the developed learning device is highly feasible, with an average validation score of 89.2%. The use of digital comics media based on CBL significantly increases students' motivation and conceptual understanding of mathematics, as evidenced by a 24.2% increase in the average SPLDV conceptual understanding score. In conclusion, the integration of the CBL model and digital comics is effective in supporting contextual, innovative, and adaptive mathematics learning in the digital eraKeywords:    Case Based Learning; digital comics; conceptual understanding; mathematics education; instructional innovation.

Abstract

The urgency to individualize mathematics instruction in secondary education has highlighted the necessity for reliable, contextually appropriate assessment tools that identify students’ sensory learning preferences. However, existing instruments—especially digital ones—often lack rigorous psychometric validation, limiting their practical and theoretical utility. This study aimed to develop and validate a digital instrument for assessing sensory learning preferences (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) among Indonesian middle school students, focusing on content validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and item discrimination. Employing a research and development approach using the ADDIE model, the instrument was created through a participatory process involving experts in mathematics, educational psychology, and digital learning, alongside teachers and students. Validation processes included expert content review, pilot testing, and large-scale field implementation with 134 students from diverse urban and peri-urban schools in Tasikmalaya. Content validity indices indicated high expert agreement, while exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses confirmed a robust three-factor structure consistent with theoretical expectations. Reliability analysis revealed strong internal consistency across all dimensions. All items demonstrated satisfactory discrimination power. The digital instrument was positively received by both teachers and students, facilitating efficient identification of students’ dominant learning preferences and supporting adaptive mathematics instruction. This research provides empirical evidence for the feasibility and utility of psychometrically validated digital assessment in Indonesian educational settings, offering a scalable tool to promote data-driven instructional differentiation. Future studies are recommended to further expand the instrument’s scope and examine its impact on learning outcomes longitudinally. Keywords:          sensory learning preferences; digital assessment; psychometric validation; mathematics education; secondary school.
