Abstract

This study aims to determine the Semiotic meaning about “The Representation of Indonesian Women in the 70s through Femina Magazine’s Cover (Semiotic Analysis of Femina Magazine Cover’s first edition, September 18th 1972)” that analyzes the denotative, connotative and myth meanings according to Roland Barthes through symbols (Properties, Expressions, and Gestures), Typography, and Colors. The theories that analyzer used are Roland Barthes’ Semiotics theory with signification steps. The method that is used is a qualitative method with critic as its paradigm. The result of this research shows from the determination meanings through Roland Barthes’ denotative, connotative, and myth meanings on Femina’s first edition cover magazine, Indonesian Women in the 70s are represented as women who had multijobs, and responsibilities in multiple fields, not only internal fields but also external fields which at the same time Indonesian Women in the 70s are “maintained” by Women’s organizations running in the name of women.

Abstract

Viral marketing using electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) is one of the important activities implemented by a company in the process of creating brand awareness. One of the strategies is a website. A website becomes the tools that use by the consumers and have one-to-many relationship. A website is also a credibility and an image to a company, through contents that presented on the website can influence the characteristic of electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) messages. The strategy is usually done by start-up companies like PT Flip, which aims to introduce the free inter-bank transfer service through their site www.flip.id. This study aims to determine how the viral marketing of PT Flip using electronic word of mouth (eWOM) in creating brand awareness through website. This study uses a descriptive qualitative methodology approach and supported by constructivism paradigm. The data in this study was obtained through direct and deep interviews with three persons of PT Flip as key informant and a viral marketing expert as supported informant, also literature, audio and visual documentation. The results of this study is viral marketing strategies that implemented by PT Flip using electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) through website, using elements of the website such as context, content, customization, communication, and connection to bring interactivity and electronic word of mouth (e-WOM). From the application of these elements are formed brand awareness at the level of brand recognition.

Abstract

The study, titled Group Communications in Community Faktabahasa (Case Study on Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in Community Faktabahasa Bandung) to find out how the activities of group communication in teaching and learning foreign languages in community Faktabahasa Bandung and communication interactions between the tutors with the participants in the community Faktabahasa Bandung , The method used in this study is a qualitative method using descriptive case study. As well as the technique of collecting data includes in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants consisted of seven people. The results of this research are activities of group communication that occurs not only learn a foreign language but also learn the culture, consisting of activities their internalization (introduction), learning foreign languages (clubbing) with storytelling, games, singing, watching videos and movies, sharing and test (test) to describe the function of group communication. The interaction communication between the tutor with the participants is two-way communication involving verbal and nonverbal communication with the atmosphere of teaching and learning activities that take place informal, relaxed, warm, intimate and conducive.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has a diversity of cultures and has uniqueness. One of the provinces that has unique is Bali and culture found only in Bali is Metatah Ceremony. Metatah traditional ceremony is a ceremony conducted by parents to their children. The ceremony is held to eliminate bad habbit that exist in man to make it later in the future be better than ever. The study examined the Metatah ceremonies are about the communication patterns that occur in the implementation Metatah ceremonies. To determine the pattern seen in the implementation of traditional ceremonies Metatah seen through three indicators, namely symbolic interaction that occurs between the components of communication, communication activities that occur during an observation implementation Metatah ceremonies and ritual communication that occurs as a function of communication. Overall this study housed within a qualitative ethnographic study methods of communication and using the constructivist paradigm. The data obtained in this study were obtained through field observations, interviews and document study. The results obtained in this study is the relationship between the activity of communication, interaction and communication symbolic ritual to create a pattern of communication called sirkular communicaton pattern of Metatah ceremony.

Abstract

Waste is one of the biggest unsolved problem in Indonesia, and it affect the nation health and surrounding, not only in big city but also in rural area. Wastes are unwanted material at the end of a process. Human defined wastes by its usefulness degree, but by its process through nature, wastes are just a product. Where wastes are just insubstantial material that valueless. Considering that waste problem are important and urgent matter, we need a better waste management that not only efficient but also beneficial, especially in the application of effective communication model. We must remember that this earth is a loan from our next generations that we must conserve for a better tomorrow. Good or bad habitude in waste management will determine the continuity of earth and human nature. Maybe Don’t Litter are just an old saying but it will determine our nature and earth continuity. Because in the end our habitude in waste management are depend on our individual habitual in waste management.

Abstract

This final work is taken the form of documentary film and aims to tell the beginning of Ali Pon’s journey to become a Maestro of Traditional Art. The work is created based on the theory of cultural communication, cultural inheritence, documentary film, cinematography, art of lighting and art of sound. The data collection for this final work uses the techniques of preliminary research, interview and literature study. The documentary begins with the story of the fondness he has for Pantun since his childhood. This eventually made him become a Pantun artist whose expertise is recognized by Ministry of Education and Culture, which ultimately inaugurated him into a Maestro of Traditional Art. With the inauguration, the Ministry hope that Ali Pon could contribute in Pantun culture inheritence. The conclusion of this final work is Ali Pon’s fondness for Pantun makes Ministry of Education and Culture recognized his expertise in the field and inaugurated him into a Maestro of Traditional Art, Pantun, in Tanjungpinang City.

Abstract

The rapid technological developments bring up a new era of media information which can be obtained via the Internet, such Youtube. Audiences can watch various categories of information, such as video clips which is a part of the entertainment content contained on Youtube. Video clip is a collection of moving images of the recorded video in order to convey a message and as a promotional tool. One of the video clips from a popular song that has been trending topic throughout 2017 is a video by Luis Fonsi, Despacito. Despacito music video clip has ever been a controversy due to the lyric of the song that invites women to make love. Not only from the audio, the visualization of the video clip also shows a group of women dancing in which they shows their body parts. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method and critical paradigm. Data analysis used in this research is critical discourse analysis of Sara Mills that uses subject-object position and readers position analysis. The aim of the research is to find out how the subject-object and the audience position in describing the women body on Despacito music video clip. The result of the study shows that women and their bodies are shown in the video clip is a selling object to increase popularity through visualization and audio on the video clip.

Abstract

Based on data from the Association of internet Service Providers in Indonesia (APJII, 2017) internet users in Indonesia in 2017 amounted to 143.26 million people, meaning of the total population of Indonesia of 262 million people, including 54, 68% are active Internet users. UNICEF explains that 30 million children and teenagers use the internet and digital media as the most important communication channel. This research wants to explain how smartphone usage by children from elementary school students in SDN Puntangsari. This research uses qualitative method with explanatory case study approach. This research has been going on for one year and the informans who are involved are 29 informants. The research results found, Informan access the internet 2- 3 hours per day, the informants are skilled in using many features on their smartphones, such us: Social Media, Google, You tube, games, photos / video editors, music, Share it, and Translated. They understand smartphone usage and how do it work. Informans use smartphone for education, communication, entertainment, social, and get information. Conclusion, informans have ability and understanding how smartphone usage which are appied in everyday life.

Abstract

Social problems are currently a concern that has a major impact on the lives of Indonesians. One way to prevent social problems with ILM on television. One of them is ILM version #waktunyakita kerja sama which aired on Net TV. From the message conveyed in the advertisement, it appears that ILM is one of the digital literature because ILM has a message delivered to audiences, one of which is education. Value education is an educational message that guides audiences to not only get caught in educational materials. Researchers analyzed the clasped video into six scenes and analyzed using Roland Barthes's semiotics and divided them into denotations, connotations and myths. The results show that the ILM version of #waktunyakita kerja sama display the value of social, moral and cultural education messages contained in the ad.

Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country full of wealth and diversity of cultures, races, ethnic groups, beliefs, religions, and many others. Although full of cultural diversity, Indonesia remains one according to its slogan, Bhineka Tunggal Ika which means "though different but still one". Seeing through the phenomenon that occurs at this time, Indonesia, which has six religions that had functioned as a unifying not infrequently become an element of conflict. Some religious people feel that their religion is the most correct, the most kind and the most acceptable, with that thought followed by the ego of each individual, then there is a conflict between religious people. Researchers are interested in how religious diversity values and tolerance are represented in the movie Google Ngulik Ramadhan - Satu Dalam Kita. With the current phenomenon, researchers feel the audience needs to apply the values of tolerance to life. This study uses a qualitative approach by using semiotics analysis to analyze the object under study. The data analysis technique is based on John Fiske's theory of "The Codes of Television". From the results of this study can be concluded that the researchers analyze that there is an ideology behind this mini drama. In the movie Google Ngulik Ramadan - One In We pluralism seen trying to be represented by Rudi Soedjarwo as a director. Pluralism is how sincerity in every human being to accept the diversity that exists.
