Mediator: Jurnal Komunikasi focuses on communication studies and media. Although centered on communication, Mediator is open and welcomes the contribution of many disciplines and approaches that meet at crossroads with communication studies. Type of writing is in the form of scientific articles (the results of field research, conceptual articles, or desk studies). This journal is intended as a medium of scientific study to communicate vision, reflection, conceptual thinking, research results, interesting experiences in the field, and critical analysis-studies on contemporary communication issues.

Kehadiran teknologi komunikasi canggih telah menggeser dan memperkaya makna komunikasi antarpersona. Kini, komunikasi antarpersona tak lagi mensyaratkan keharusan adanya tatap muka. Komunikasi demikian dapat berlangsun, misalnya dengan internet melalui fasilitas chatting. Inilah komunikasi antarpersona dalam dunia cyber. Sebagaimana komunikasi antarpersona tatapmuka, pada komunikasi antarpersona di dunia maya pun masih diperlukan dimensi-dimensi psikologis, sehingga komunikasi itu bisa efektif. Namun demikian, bagaimanapun komunikasi antarpersona cyberspace tidak sepenuhnya persis sama dengan komunikasi antarpersona tatap muka, karena ada yang tergantikan yakni aspek "memberi dan menerima diri penuh secara psikologis".

Conflict theory is born as reaction toward structural functional approach for social change analysis. This theory gained its popularity in 1960s, rooted in Max Weber concept of power conflict and Karl Marx’ theses focused on economy conflict. This article emphasized Marx concept concerning social change which is frequently used in conflict argumentation. Although widely used for social analysis, Marx theory has weaknesses, too. Ritzer and Goodman described some critics toward Marxian approach: (1) failed to prove social revolution; (2) unable to comprehend capitalist system flexibilities; (3) too radical; (4) ideological-biased; and (5) unable to prove the success of Marxist-Communist states.

The rapid flows of information in the digital age makes online site producers create news that attracted the attention of netizen not only on their main sites but also for social media platforms. The goal is to get a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) which will be useful for the purpose of advertising. The existence of this KPI can be seen from the number of interactions made by readers who clicked, commented, or shared content on their social media accounts. This phenomenon then raises the use of Clickbait Headline, an attractive headline but sometimes trap the curiosity of the readers. To that end, the author wants to see how far the use of Clickbait Headline in Dream.co.id, a news and lifestyle of Muslim sites. In addition, the author also wants to see the use of journalistic ethics code standards on Clickbait Headline. Using content analysis techniques, the author selected samples using purposive sampling from the most viewed article samples in the period 1-21 June 2017. As a result, most articles in Dream.co.id using Clickbait Headline with catafora techniques and have met The Journalistic Ethics Code standards.

Teori Media-Marxist mengasumsikan media sebagai arena pertarungan ideologi berbagai kelas. Dalam perspektifnya, para profesional media menikmati ilusi otonomi dan tersosialisasikan dalam kerangka norma budaya dominan. Media dianggap memiliki kerangka interpretasi yang sesuai dengan budaya dominan. Sementara, khalayak media sendiri lebih sering menegaskan dan mengontekskan kerangka tersebut karena ketidaksiapan menghadapi sistem makna alternatif yang memungkinkan mereka menolak definisi yang ditawarkan media secara konsisten. Bertitik tolak dari asumsi ini, maka teori Media-Marxist menawarkan cara pandang baru untuk menganalisis media dengan sejumlah konsep kunci: media sebagai cara produksi, media sebagai amplifier, hegemoni ala Gramsci, sampai pada text-reading ala Stuart Hall. Kendati demikian, sejumlah hal harus dicermati dalam penerapan teori Media-Marxist pada riset-riset media. Lyle mendefinisikan sembilan kelemahan teori Media-Marxist—beberapa di antaranya bersumber dari keyakinan bahwa dinamika masyarakat digerakkan sepenuhnya oleh perjuangan kelas, dan bahwa konflik senantiasa harus diselesaikan melalui cara-cara revolusioner.

The development of ads and advertising raise some sociocultural issues concerning the sign being represented, image being constructed, information being delivered, meaning being acquired, and how everything affects perception, understanding, and public behavior. Advertising is attached to the product, offering images as values and moral reference for public. Advertising creates image of a product and assigns social relationship as reflected on status, prestige, and social class. Postmodernism establish a new form of signification: form follows fun. It is not the meaning, but the interplay between signs that considered the most important thing in advertising.

This research focused on the production and broadcasting on radio programs. In this study, researchers will dig deeper into Geronimo’s radio of Yogyakarta public relations strategy in maintaining the company’s image. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using purposive sampling technique because researchers want to examine more deeply about Public Relations (PR) strategies by taking samples from data sources. Data collection is done by interviews, observation and documentation. Data checking is done by source triangulation. Data analysis was carried out by interactive analysis of Miles and Huberman, through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed public relations has carried out the function of maintaining the image by working on specific market segmentation, namely groups of youth (students). Student segmentation is the right target market considering that Yogyakarta is known as a student city. The implication of this research is that public relations needs to continue to make smart innovations to maintain the target market, so that the company’s image is getting stronger (have a good character).

Pemahaman biasa tentang ideologi adalah dengan mengkaji efek ideologi pada bentuk-bentuk wacana dan makna. fdeologi jJositifatau negatiftergantung pada konsekuensinya dalam praktik sosial. Orang membentuk model mental tentang peristitwa yang dipercakapkan dan peristiwa di mana ia berpartisipasi. Model mental adalah memori personal yang bersifat episodik. Dan, orang tidak berada dalam ruang hampa. fa berada dalam sebuah kontkes, yakni situasi subjektifdi mana ia berada atau terlibat. Konteks itu sendiri tidak statis. secara terus-menerus akan direkonstruksi dalam mental para partisipan. Untuk mendeskripsikan wacana, sebagai alat analisis, kategori-kategori kotekstual berikut dapat digunakan: domain, global action, roles, sosial relations, dan context. interpretasi para partisipan dan peneliti yang dihasilkan tak terhindarkan pada bias ideologi tertentu yang dianut, sehingga bersifat subjektif.

Humas pemerintah daerah, dalam upaya pengembangan otonomi daerah, seyogianya tidak lagi sekadar corong yang melulu menginformasikan kegiatan-kegiatan pemerintah kepada masyarakat, juga bukan hanya membela dan menyembunyikan cela pemerintah dari kritik yang dilontarkan publik. Lembaga humas harus berperan sebagai jembatan antara berbagai kepentingan pemerintah dan rakyat. Untuk itu, perlu dibuka dialog antara kedua pihak tersebut. Selain itu, pemerintah juga perlu lebih mengembangkan kemampuan mendengarkan rakyat, alih-alih berbicara terus dan hanya ingin didengarkan. Melalui keterbukaan, dialog, dan kepekaan mendengarkan suara berbagai pihak, iklim komunikasi kondusif dapat dikembangkan sebagai wahana bagi penyelesaian berbagai masalah di daerah.

This paper is concerned with the dissemination of Healthy Lifestyle information.Healthy Lifestyle which applying food combining approach recently is hailed as a breakthrough in health communication. Meanwhile, the dissemination process consists of message characteristic, communication channel, and range of time period. The innovation on message characteristic involves factors such as relative benefit, compatibility, and complexity. Relative innovation is generated from economy aspect: by applying healthy lifestyle information, it is strongly hoped that human body will become healthy, full of energy, and free from disease. On the other hand, there is difficulty on compatibility factors, due to society’s eating pattern which referred on four-healthy pattern for every meal, not for a whole day. The spread of information need a deep toward lifestyle—add complexity for the matter. The communication channels to widespread this information to the public utilize a combination of interpersonal communication (for consultation), group communication (public speech), and mass communication (print media). Time is also a crucial factor in planning information dissemination.

Political activities often generate political question toward ethics or moral issues. Political world believed as moral costly and degrading political figures into somewhat vague and manipulative person in order to maintain his/her positions. The case of Amien Rais, who failed to be Indonesian president resulted from fair election, supported such assumptions. Porn-video-streaming involving important political members also provided a strong case that political domain is actually a dirty world. But, in every situation, democracy needs a fair and honest people to give a high standard performance in politics. A good political leader would leave good memories and excellent example for other political leaders who fill in the same positions in the future.
