The Indonesian Journal of Social Studies was founded in 2018 in order to offer the disciplines in the field of social science education a representative scholarly publication. The Indonesian Journal of Social Studies is a journal published every 6 months, namely July and December, published by the Department of Social Studies, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Abstract

Student learning outcomes is a very important aspect in education because it is one indicator and benchmark of success in the teaching and learning process. Pesantren and students' interest in learning towards student learning outcomes in social studies subjects. Based on these objectives, this research uses quantitative methods. Researchers used multiple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS 16.0 for Windows. Sampling in this study using probability sampling techniques with a total sample of 129 students. The results of this study indicate a significant fact between the environment of boarding schools and students' interest in learning towards student learning outcomes in social studies subjects.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model problem based learning terhadap kompetensi pengetahuan dan ketrampilan berpikir kritis siswa tentang konflik antar desa. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian eksperimen dengan menggunakan teknik pretest-postest randomized control design dengan populasi penelitian adalah seluruh kelas XI pada Madrasah Aliyah BPD (Badan Pengelola Desa) Iha Provinsi Maluku yang terdiri dari tiga kelas. Sedangkan sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas, yaitu XI 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen yang menerapkan model problem based learning dan XI 3 sebagai kelas kontrol yang menerapkan model pembelajaran langsung. Analisis data kompetensi pengetahuan siswa dan ketrampilan berpikir kritis menggunakan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan  bahwa analisis deskriptif model problem based learning berpengaruh untuk meningkatkan kompetensi pengetahuan dan ketrampilan berpikir kritis siswa yang didasarkan pada beberapa hal, yaitu: (1) aktivitas siswa tergolong aktif, (2) ketuntasan hasil belajar tercapai. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh nilai sig 0,000 ≤ 0,05 dan thitung (5,637) ≥ ttabel (1,688). Hal ini berarti bahwa ada perbedaan rata-rata post-test siswa pada model problem based learning lebih baik dibandingkan model pembelajaran langsung dalam hal meningkatkan kompetensi pengetahuan dan ketrampilan berpikir kritis.

Abstract

This is a development research that aims to develop social studies learning tools based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at the Middle School level. The results of this study are focused on the validity of the learning tools developed. The learning tools developed in this study are lesson plans, student teaching materials, student activity sheets, and social studies test questions sheets. This research is a type of development research using the 4D model. The results of this study are ESD-based social learning tools whose validity has been tested by experts.

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan suatu hal yang sangat berharga bagi perkembangan generasi muda saat ini, akan tetapi perlu disadari bahwa sekolah belum memberikan hasil yangmaksimal dalam mengembangkan karakter peserta didiknya. Hal ini menjadi sebuah keprihatinan manakala masyarakat dihadapkan pada penyimpangan-penyimpangan yang terjadi pada dunia pendidikan. Pendidikan karakter yang dijalankan oleh sekolah sebagai lembaga yang dipercaya untuk menjadikan generasi muda berkualitas senantiasa hanya terjebak pada masalah pelaksanann kurikulum semata. Sekolah belum memberikan penanaman akan kesadaran diri individu baik secara personal maupun social.Kesadaran social perlu dibangun agar tercipta perilaku social generasi muda yang lebih baik lagi. Kesadaran akan hak dan kewajiban sebagai anggota masyarakat yang benar-benar disadari secara kritis masih menjadi sebuah impian belaka. Sekolah baru mampu memberikan kesadaran mekanis manakala siswa sadar akan hak kewajibannya hanya dilingkungan sekolah saja saat ada guru dan aturan yang mengikat. Inilah yang menjadi sebuah keprihatinan bersama bahwa pendidikan karakter harus menyentuh pada kesadaran kritis yang akan membangun peserta didik menjadi generasi yang berkualitas.Meditasi yang dijalankan di sekolah ini menjadi sebuah pola baru dalam pendidikan karakter peserta didiknya. Meditasi yang dilakukan membentuk sebuah paradigm baru dalam bertindak dan memaknai pribadi sebagai mahkluk ciptaan Tuhan yang bermartabat sehingga harus dijaga, harmonis dan saling membantu. Paradigma baru inilah yang menjadikan pemahaman individu tentang kesadaran dan perilaku social menjadi lebih baik. Perilaku ini yang akan dibawa dalam bermasyarakat sehingga ada atau tidak ada guru, atau system yang mengikat maka manusia akan semakin menyadari untuk bertindak dan bersikap sesuai dengan nilai dan norma-norma yang sudah disepakti bersama. Abstract

One of the research topics which intrigues researchers in the subject areas of applied linguistics, international relations and politics is political discourse and the way it is perceived and represented in the media. Researchers have analysed and interpreted the political and international relations discourse of various politicians and diplomats in different countries. By the same token, Iran, as a country with an influence on the political issues of the Middle East and a role in international dynamics and trends, has devoted a plethora of research to itself where researchers have examined and critiqued the international and foreign policies of Iran in various periods of time, in relation to various countries and in connection with various political and international events and situations. However, a search carried out by the present researcher showed that there are not many publications on how the British mass media, newspapers in particular, perceive and represent the Iranian government’s international relations discourse. To address this lacuna, a corpus of news stories and reports extracted from two renowned British newspapers, the Guardian and Daily Mail, was analysed by adopting a double hermeneutic content analysis approach. The results suggest that the two newspapers, in spite of being famous for having polar political views, seem to have similar perceptions and representations of the above discourse. The study also provides directions for further research in other contexts.

Abstract

This article is discusson entrepreneurial learning activities using WhatsApp application and entrepreneurial video media, including student responses to entrepreneurship learning in written texts enacted on WhatsApp, and the entrepreneurship learning responses in the video production process was delivered on WhatsApp. This study employed a qualitative approach. We recruited 400 students from STKIP PGRI Jombang, STKIP PGRI Nganjuk, STKIP PGRI Tulungagung, and UNWAHA to participate in the study. Findings suggested thatthe majority of the students attained sustained motivation in entrepreneurship learning. They also engaged in creative learning using video in the WhatsApp enactment. Our study calls for pedagogical decisions for teachers to employ this learning model in other classroom subjects.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kelayakan buku teks pelajaran melalui analisis isi pada buku teks pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial Kurikulum 2013 kelas VII SMP/MTs. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian analisis isi (content analysis). Alasan menggunakan metode analisis isi adalah bahwa peneliti ingin mengungkapkan tentang kelayakan sebuah buku teks pelajaran IPS yang  diterbitkan oleh penerbit diluar Kementerian pendidikan dan kebudayaan apakah sudah sesuai dengan standar kelayakan dari BSNP, yang terdiri dari kelayakan materi/isi, kelayakan penyajian, kelayakan Bahasa, dan kelayakan kegrafikaan. Selain itu peneliti ingin mendeskripsikan apakah materi dalam buku tersebut sudah sesuai dengan kriteria keterpaduan dalam pembelajaran IPS. Data hasil penelitian yang diperoleh sebagai berikut:  aspek kelayakan isi, uraian materi sudah sesuai dengan KI dan KD, keakuratan materi,kemutakhiran materi, mendorong keingintahuan, dan peluasan wawasan sudah dengan standar kelayakan dari BSNP. Aspek kelayakan penyajian yang terdiri dari teknik penyajian, pendukung penyajian, dan penyajian pembelajaran sudah sesuai dengan standar kelayakan. Sedangkan untuk aspek kelayakan Bahasa sebagian besar sudah layak dan aspek yang keempat yaitu kegrafikaan, mulai dari ukuran buku, desain kulit buku dan desain isi buku, juga telah memenuhi standar kelayakan kegrafikan yang telah ditentukan oleh BSNP. Materi yang terdapat pada buku tersebut juga sudah sesuai dengan kaidah keterpaduan dalam pembelajaran IPS. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa buku teks pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial Kurikulum 2013 kelas VII SMP/MTs terbitan Platinum sudah sesuai dengan standar kelayakan dari BSNP dan layak dipakai di sekolah-sekolah, namun masih memerlukan sedikit perbaikan pada beberapa bagian.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to understand how the application of Minang Culture Local Wisdom values "in the earth is grounded, there is the sky dijunjuang" in the Context of Ethnopedagogy by Perantau Minang in the City of Surabaya. This research is qualitative in nature with an ethnographic approach that was carried out for three months (August-October 2018) to Minangkabau migrants in the city of Surabaya. The results of the study show that there are at least five Minangkabau cultural values that are very important to be included as part of the ethopathic material. The nine cultural values are: 1) Caring for and maintaining Mother Language; 2)“Dima bumi dipijak, disitu langit dijunjuang”; 3)“Nan elok dek awak katuju dek urang; Lamak dek awak lamak dek urang; Sakik dek awak sakik dek urang”; 4)“Karatau madang di hulu, Babuah babungo balun; Marantau Bujang dahulu, Di rumah baguno balun”; 5)“Baraja ka na manang, mancontoh ka nan sudah”; dan “Takuruang nak dilua, taimpik nak diateh”; 6) “Yang buta penghembus lesung, yang pekak pelepas bedil, yang lumpuh penghuni rumah, yang kuat pemikul beban, yang bodoh untuk disuruh-suruh, dan yang pintar lawan berunding.”; 7) “Hiduik baraka, baukue jo bajangko”; 8) “Nan tuo dihormati, nan ketek disayangi, samo gadang bawo bakawan, ibu jo bapak diutamokan.”;9) “Adat basandi syarak, syarak basandi kitabullah” Keywords: ethnopedagogy, local wisdom, Minangkabau culture.

Abstract

The hologram has been considered as communication medium, which is also in fact, this technology has been adopted in varied occasions and purposes as well as to provide a showcase of a technology advancement. Smart Citizen Day 2019 has been noted quite a breakthrough since instead of having an opening video or live speech from President Joko Widodo, the Ministry of Secretary State has come to a decision in presenting a hologram form of the president. New Media, with all its derivation is used by the president to dissemination message he made. This research paper is a literature review with the main data sources are books on communication style theory and leadership, as well as theories about new media technology. The secondary of materials used is a variety of reports about Jokowi communication activities to the Millenials. With the concept of diffusion of innovation, this hologram innovation in government area needs to be appreciated, as well as to be measured on how the audiences’ perspective towards the technology adaptation in the event.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the inquiry learning model on the critical thinking skills of junior high school students in social studies subjects the theme of the dynamics of population and national development. The method used was Quasi Experimental method with the Pretest-posttest control group design. The learning model applied to the experimental group was the inquiry model, while the control group was the Problem Base Learning. Subjects were students of class VIII A (experiment) and VIII B (control) at State Junior High School of Probolinggo City academic year of 2018/2019. Data were collected using observation technique, and then analyzed statistically using t-Test on the SPSS program. The results on the posttest data demonstrated a significance (and were supported by the descriptive analysis in which the posttest mean score of the experimental group was higher than the control group
