Abstract

One of the nutritional problems in the world is stunting. Stunting is a condition where a toddler has less length or height when compared to age. Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by many factors. One of the factors that can cause stunting is complementary feeding. Infants who are not getting good complementary feeding have a greater chance of growth growth by 6.5 times compared to babies who get enough complementary feeding. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of stunting in the under two years old by giving complementary feeding in the working area of Puskesmas 1, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java. This descriptive analytic study was taken from secondary data using a cross sectional design conducted on 444 mothers who have children aged 6-23 months in the working area of the District 1 Sumbang Puskesmas. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between nutritional status of under two years on the practice of giving complementary feeding (p = 0.06), type of complementary feeding (p = 0.857), and frequency of complementary feeding (p = 0.393). However, there were differences in nutritional status based on age at the first time giving complementary feeding to under two years whose diet was incomplete (p = 0.001) and differences in nutritional status based on the type of complementary feeding given to under two years who washed their hands did not use soap (p = 0.03

Abstract

Few years ago, food combining a popular weight reducing diet has been promoted and practiced by the public in Indonesia. The objective of this study was to compare the effect of food combining on change in body weight with a calorie reducing diet. We used a crossover experiment study design where 12 healthy free-living subjects (10 women, 2 men), age range 18-21 years old and BMI > 25 kg/m2 were randomly allocated into each groups. Participants were prescribed two diets for 3 consecutive weeks with a 6 week washout period when subjects were instructed free to eat. Diet of 1200 kcal/day for women and 1500 kcal/day for men were prescribed for respondents, whereas the food combining intervention included fruits in the morning and a combination of protein foods with vegetables or carbohydrate foods and vegetables for the other meals. The body weight and nutrients intake were measured before and after each intervention. The result analyzed using a linear mixed model and it showed there was no significant difference (p=0.235) in change in body weight after treatment with the food combining (65.8 kg, CI 95%: 59.7, 71.8) as compared to the calorie restricted diet (66.5 kg, CI: 95%: 60.4, 72.5) at F (1, 10) =1.59. The risk inadequate intake of protein, vitamin B-2, folate, calcium, iron and zinc after followed food combining compared to calorie restricted diet should taking into consideration. The food combining as well as energy reducing diet showed a similar effect on reduction in body weight.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transition from childhood to adulthood which is marked by a number of biological, cognitive, and emotional changes. Adolescent nutritional status is very influential on brain growth needed for cognitive and intellectual processes. The emergence of adolescent nutrition problems is basically due to the wrong eating consumption behavior. A diet that is not balanced with the body's nutritional needs will cause the body to lack iron. Persistent iron deficiency in adolescent girls can cause hemoglobin (Hb) levels in the blood to decrease and cause anemia. The objective was to analyze differences in anemia status, nutritional status and nutritional intake of adolescent girls in urban and rural areas. This type of research is cross sectional with research sites in SMAN 2 Bengkulu City and SMAN 4 Bengkulu Utara. The sample of the study was young women who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of 130 people. Data collected was characteristic of sample data obtained through questionnaires, anemia status data obtained from Hb examination using a digital hemoglobinometer, nutritional status data obtained by anthropometric index IMT / U and nutritional intake data, data were collected using the SQ-FFQ method. Data analysis using Independent t-test if the data with normal distribution and Mann Whitney U test for data with abnormal distribution. The result is, there was no difference between anemia status, nutritional status and intake of vitamin C in young women in urban and rural areas. There is a difference between protein intake and iron adolescent girls in urban and rural areas.

Abstract

The high incidence of antibiotic resistance in the treatment of infections today is very worrying. The main therapy in patients with acute respiratory infections (ARI) is using antibiotics. This study aims to determine the sensitivity of several antibiotics to the bacteria that cause ARI. The design of this study is quasi-experimental. This sensitivity testing uses the disc diffusion method (Kirby Bauer). The antibiotics used are Ampicillin and Cefotaxime. The results obtained are that the antibiotic Ampicillin resistant by 86.26% and 13.63% are still sensitive to the bacteria that causes ARI. The same thing also happened to Cefotaxime antibiotics, most of which were resistant (59.09%), intermediate (9.09%), and most were still sensitive (31.81%) to bacteria that infect the respiratory tract. From the results obtained it can be concluded that the incidence of bacterial resistance to ampicillin and cefotaxime is very high against bacteria that cause ARI.

Abstract

The betel (Piper betle L) is an herb that has one of the properties, namely as an antibacterial. Several studies have shown green betel leaf extract can inhibit the growth of Gram-positive and Gram negative bacteria. In this study, the antibacterial activity of liquid smoke produced from betel leaf by pyrolysis using a simple pyrolysis reactor was tested. Tests are carried out on 2 types of liquid smoke namely grade 3 which is the first product of the pyrolysis process and grade 2 which is the result of distillation from grade 3. Both types of liquid smoke are prepared into concentration of 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% respectively water as a solvent. Two types of bacteria are used, namely Salmonella sp as Gram-negative bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive. The test results show that grade 3 and grade 2 liquid smoke give minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) at the same concentration of 50% against Salmonella sp and, Staphylococcus aureus at 25%, 75% concentrations, respectively.
