Abstract

This study examines the contributions of pioneering women in Peruvian accounting, both in scientific research and university teaching, in a historically male-dominated field. The research aims to highlight their academic impact and professional legacy. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing the collective biography method and a phenomenological perspective. The study analyzed historical undergraduate and graduate theses from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) and conducted interviews with five distinguished female accounting professors. The findings reveal that these women made significant contributions in key areas such as financial auditing, management accounting, and environmental auditing, demonstrating adaptability and ethical commitment. In the educational sphere, participants emphasized their transformative teaching experiences, dedication to students, and the challenges posed by technology and social changes. The study concludes that these pioneers not only shaped the evolution of accounting education but also left a lasting legacy of academic and social engagement. The research underscores the need for gender equity policies and continuous technological adaptation in accounting education. These findings have practical implications for promoting diversity in academia and ensuring inclusive participation in the professional development of future generations.

Abstract

The national achievement test results for grade 12 in Gingoog City Division revealed low science proficiency in critical thinking, information literacy, and problem-solving. This study evaluated science literacy related to climate science among senior high school students, focusing on scientific knowledge, competence, and attitudes as a platform for science curriculum enhancement. A descriptive-comparative design was utilized, involving 339 students from randomly selected public secondary schools, determined through stratified sampling using Slovin’s formula with a .05 margin of error. Three instruments were modified for the study and validated by experts: a 30-item multiple-choice test for scientific knowledge, a 10-item Likert scale for scientific competence, and a 20-item for scientific attitudes. A pilot test with 30 non-participants yielded a Cronbach’s alpha of .76, indicating acceptable reliability. Data analysis involved descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed that students in both academic and technical-vocational-livelihood (TVL) tracks generally exhibited low proficiency in scientific knowledge regarding climate change but high scientific competence and attitudes. Significant differences between academic and TVL students in scientific knowledge, competence, and affective engagement were noted. The study concluded that there is a need to improve educational strategies to address learning gaps. Curriculum enhancements should strengthen scientific understanding by integrating climate science topics and developing learning resources and activities.

Abstract

Effective instructional supervision plays a crucial role in enhancing teaching quality and student learning. However, teachers’ perceptions towards supervision vary, some view it as supportive while others see it as fault-finding. This study examines teachers’ perceptions towards principals’ instructional supervisory practices to identify areas of improvement. The Administrative theory of supervision and a concurrent triangulation mixed approach guided the study. Purposive and simple random sampling were utilized to sample 127 teachers and 10 principals. A survey and an interview guide were employed to gather data which was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. An independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were utilized to test the mean differences in teachers’ perceptions. Findings indicate that while most teachers recognize supervision as beneficial for professional development, a significant number perceive supervision as authoritarian. The results unveiled that teachers’ gender, age and education qualification did not significantly influence their perceptions [t(98)=1.468, p>0.05, F(4, 95)=0.556, and F(4, 95)=0.174, p>0.05]. The study concludes that fostering a positive supervisory environment can enhance teachers’ confidence, improve instructional strategies, and ultimately lead to better student outcomes.

Abstract

Cancer is a chronic disease that causes patients and their caregivers to face various challenges throughout treatment and care. This study aimed to develop a counselling-based self-wellbeing model for informal caregivers of childhood cancer patients in Malaysia. This study employed the design and development research (DDR). The first phase involved needs analysis using a systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews of nine caregivers of childhood cancer. The second phase involved two methods: nominal group technique (NGT) and interpretive structural modeling (ISM). The third phase involved evaluating the usability of the model through the Fuzzy Delphi method (FDM) with the agreement of seven experts. This study successfully developed a counselling-based self-wellbeing model for informal caregivers of childhood cancer patients in Malaysia. This model has 12 components consisting of: i) financial; ii) career; iii) knowledge related to management and care of child cancer patients; iv) emotional management and care; v) spiritual; vi) cognitive and rationalization; vii) social relationships; viii) roles of counsellors in helping parents; ix) spouse and family relationships; x) physical; xi) communication; and xii) facilities. This model is proposed to be used by counsellors, especially who serve in health institutions to help parents who have children with cancer.

Abstract

Early years’ education is an important foundation for a child’s life-long learning, and leaders and managers in early childhood work settings have an important role in creating a nurturing environment that supports and enables children to learn regardless of their needs. This study investigates the challenges and contradictions leaders and managers face in early childhood education (ECE) settings. It examines how pedagogical praxis can be leveraged to foster inclusivity focusing on the tension between the intrinsic value of play and the pressure of child performativity meeting performance benchmarks. This qualitative study offers a constructive discussion on leadership practices in ECE and inclusion in Malaysia. The thematic analysis of nine interviews analyzed by N-VIVO software and showed the important considerations for enhancing leadership and management approaches, creating more inclusive spaces, and supporting the holistic development of early childhood curricula. The result offers a rich description of how leading practices are increasingly influenced by dominant trends in educational policies and society, including neoliberal agendas and narrowly conceived accountability systems that focus on measurable outcomes. It underlines the centrality of supporting the ongoing professional development of educators.

Abstract

The growing demand for analytics-skilled professionals in today’s digital economy has led higher education institutions (HEIs) worldwide to offer business intelligence and analytics (BI/BA) programs. However, BI/BA education is still in its early stages, with noticeable curriculum structure and pedagogical methods discrepancies. Thus, this study seeks to comprehensively evaluate BI/BA education research and unveil its evolving intellectual framework. Guided by the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, it employs a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed BI/BA education research published between 2005 and 2023. Utilizing both VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, the findings revealed that BI/BA education research has surged dramatically since 2018. Researchers based in the United States have been instrumental in advancing this research domain and fostering international research collaborations. Our findings underscored two key emerging research trends: i) Integrating BI/BA knowledge into business and IT programs and ii) Incorporating industry 4.0 (IR4.0) technologies into the BI/BA curriculum. The findings call for more research collaborations with leading BI/BA institutes in the United States and China to leverage their rich knowledge and expertise. Furthermore, HEIs and future researchers shall focus on aligning curricula with the advancing digital technologies to ensure graduates possess a holistic and current skill set.

Abstract

Promoting positive recycling behavior should be part of the higher educational objectives. The main purpose of this research is to identify the determinants of recycling behavior among undergraduates, to assess the differences in undergraduates’ recycling behavior based on their demographic, and to explore the relationship between the determinants and behavior of recycling. The research extended the theory of planned behaviors (TPB) by adding environmental awareness as a determinant of recycling behavior in addition to attitude toward recycling, subjective norm of recycling, and perceived behavioral control over recycling. The research population comprises management programs undergraduates from a public university in Malaysia. A total of 259 responses were collected via structured questionnaire. Descriptive and Pearson correlation analysis results suggested that respondents strongly agreed that undergraduates’ attitudes and environmental awareness are the most important determinants of recycling behavior, and both determinants are strongly correlated with recycle behavior. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis result also reveals that there is significant difference on recycle behaviors among undergraduates based on year of study, with year 4 undergraduates exhibiting the highest recycling behavior. This finding suggests that the green campus initiatives taken by the university are effective. Additionally, extending the TPB model by adding awareness implies a theoretical contribution of this research.

Abstract

The education curriculum in Indonesia is gradually changing from the 2013 Curriculum to the Independent “Merdeka” Curriculum. The new curriculum is certainly a challenge for teachers. The aim of this research is to analyze the factors that influence teacher’s readiness and to measure the level of teacher readiness in implementing the Independent Curriculum. This quantitative research was designed using a survey method. The participants involved were 172 teachers from elementary, middle, and high school education levels in Medan City, Indonesia. Data were collected using online questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics using mean scores, factor analysis, and multiple linear regression t-test. The research results show the level of teachers’ readiness in implementing the Independent Curriculum based on gender, age, and years of teaching experience, both at elementary, middle, and high school levels with a mean interval of 6.00–6.99 (the initiation level). Subsequently, there are four dominant factors that influence teachers’ readiness to implement the Independent Curriculum, which are teacher, school, government policy, and student. The teacher factor contributed the most in determining teachers’ readiness to implement the Independent Curriculum (43.7%).

Abstract

This empirical study develops an industry engagement model (IEM) by using the Six-Sigma define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC) methodology to investigate the key strategies to enhance industry participation (IP) in the Malaysian apprenticeship program known as the National Dual Training System (NDTS). The relationship between five strategies, namely financial incentives (FI), digital administration (DA), productive collaboration (PC), flexible implementation (FT), and efficient promotion (EP) on IP, was examined. The 204 returned questionnaires were analyzed using partial least square-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that FT, EP, and DA strongly influence IP in the NDTS program. In contrast, improvement in FI and PC has little impact on industry involvement. The development of IEM by demonstrating the DMAIC concept is novel and new to the research. It offers enormous potential and value in improving policymakers’ decision-making in apprenticeship programs. It may also be extended to other areas of education in the future.

Abstract

A qualitative phenomenological approach was utilized in this study to explore the challenges experienced by novice school principals and how they overcome these challenges in managing their schools in the Division of Mabalacat City during school year 2023-2024. Guided by in-depth one-on-one semi-structured interviews, data was gathered from nine public elementary school principals. With the transcribed data, coding was employed using thematic analysis. Results showed that novice principals’ challenges are categorized into two: i) interpersonal challenges, including keeping the school safe and conducive and engaging with stakeholders, and ii) intrapersonal challenges, which include transitioning to higher roles and responsibilities and catching up with the new knowledge and skills needed to acquire. Moreover, novice principals experienced in overcoming these challenges were also examined. Findings revealed that growing interpersonal skills by establishing a good relationship with stakeholders and building rapport with teachers and growing intrapersonal skills by never stopping learning and having the right attitude would help them cope with their difficulties in managing the school. Finally, a proposed novice principals’ challenges model framework was developed and recommended for use in the Division of Mabalacat City to improve the knowledge, skills, and qualities of beginning and aspiring principals with their new roles in managing their schools.
