Abstract

Hypertension is a serious problem because it causes high morbidity and mortality. One indicator of successful management is diet management. Diet management is often an obstacle for hypertension sufferers. This study aimed to determine the dominant factors that inhibit hypertension diet management in hypertension sufferers in the working area of the Juwana Health Center. This research method used a correlation study with a cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study was 65 respondents, using a total sampling technique with the inclusion criteria of hypertensive patients who were routinely checked on prolongs, hypertensive patients who implemented hypertension diet management, and hypertensive patients without comorbidities. The instruments used in this research are HKT (Hypertension Knowledge Test), FFQ (Food Frequency Questionnaire), FFS (Family Support Scale), PSS (Perceived Stress Scale), and HSMBQ (Hypertension Self Management Behavior Questionnaire). Data analysis used chi-square and simple logistic regression. The results of data analysis show that hypertension diet management is affected by knowledge (p: 0.003, OR: 2.764), dietary habits (p: 0.001, OR: 7.986), income (p: 0.004, OR: 2.098), family support (p: 0.001, OR: 9.986), and stress (p: 0.001, OR: 3.874). The most dominant factors are family support (p: 0.001, OR: 9.986, 95% CI: 0.653 < OR < 23.98). Family support is the most dominant factor affecting hypertension diet management. Positive system support is necessary for the patient's success in controlling blood pressure. Conclusion: There are factors that affected diet management of the hypertension: knowledge, dietary patterns, income, family support, and stress, with the dominant factor being family support.

Abstract

Stress is generally being experienced by most of the nurses due to the duration of working hours and the number of patients. The high workload of nurses often results in fatigue, loss of concentration at work, the ability to remember information is very limited, being emotional and apathetic. This research is an analytic survey, with cross-sectional design in which the independent and dependent variables were examined simultaneously to determine the relationship between the nurse workload and stress level of nurses in the ICU wards of Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital. This study uses primary data which were obtained by using questionnaires and secondary data were obtained from the medical record, with questionnaire instruments. The entire population were nurses in the ICU wards and samples in this study consisted of 24 nurses taken by total sampling technique. Based on the results of the chi square test at work variable, it is found that the X2 count 3.154, which means there is not any relationship between working hours and the level of stress of nurses working in the ICU, and the variable of the number of patients X2 count 6,446 which means there is a relationship between number of patients with stress level for nurses in the ICU wards. The study's findings indicate that while there is a correlation between the number of patients and nurses' stress levels in the General Hospital's intensive care unit wards, there is no correlation between working hours and nurses' stress levels.

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally, significantly impacting healthcare providers, including nurses. Despite their critical role in health promotion, many nurses neglect their cardiovascular preventive activities (CVPAs). This study assessed the prevalence and associated factors of good CVPAs among female nurses at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Hospital. 212 registered female nurses participated in a cross-sectional study that was carried out between June and August 2015. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, work-related factors, and CVPAs were collected through a structured self-administered questionnaire. Good CVPAs were defined as adherence to dietary guidelines, regular physical activity, non-smoking, alcohol avoidance, and regular health screenings. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with good CVPAs. Only 14.2% of nurses practiced good CVPAs. While 75.5% were physically active, only 17.9% consumed five or more servings of fruits and vegetables regularly. Nurses in medical-based departments had lower odds of practicing good CVPAs compared to those in surgical-based units (OR = 0.24, 95% CI: 0.08-0.76, p = 0.015). The prevalence of good CVPAs among female nurses at USM Hospital is low, especially regarding dietary adherence. The work department significantly influences preventive practices, suggesting the need for targeted interventions to promote cardiovascular health among nurses.

Abstract

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a significant complication among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, impacting their quality of life and healthcare resources. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of DKD prevention and identify their predictors among T2DM patients in Northeast Peninsular Malaysia. A cross-sectional study involving 600 T2DM patients from government health clinics in Kelantan was conducted using a validated questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were used to determine predictors of poor KAP. Results showed that 77% of participants had poor knowledge, 58.2% had poor attitudes, and 50.78% had poor practices regarding DKD prevention. Predictors of poor knowledge included being single, widowed, or divorced, lower education, and having at least one diabetic complication. Interestingly, unemployed participants had lower odds of poor knowledge. Poor attitudes were linked to lower education and unemployment, while poor practices were predicted by ethnicity, lower education, and poor attitudes. These findings suggest that DKD prevention strategies should focus on improving education, targeting vulnerable groups, and addressing socio-demographic factors to enhance KAP among T2DM patients.

Abstract

Sexual violence is a forced sexual act without consent and has consequences for health problems, namely reproductive health, physical health, and mental health, which can be felt in the short and long term. It has become a global issue that requires immediate attention. This study aims to analyze the relationship between parent-adolescent communication and adolescents' ability to protect themselves against sexual violence in Medan City. The research employs a quantitative approach using a descriptive correlation method, involving 52 respondents-students in grades X and XI at MAS Al-Jamiyatul Washliyah school in Medan City-selected through purposive sampling. The Chi-Square test was utilized for data analysis. Research data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires using the google form application in May 2024, and computerized data processing using SPSS with univariate and bivariate data analysis. The findings revealed that 73.1% of respondents exhibited good parent-adolescent communication, 98.1% demonstrated effective self-protection skills, and 94.2% were considered at low risk of sexual violence. The results of the Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between parent-adolescent communication and the incidence of sexual violence, with a p-value of 0.003 (α = 0.05). However, there was no significant relationship found between adolescents' self-protection skills and the risk of sexual violence, as indicated by a p-value of 0.803 (α = 0.05). In conclusion, both parent-adolescent communication and self-protection skills are essential preventive measures against sexual violence. It is expected that schools can provide education related to the importance of parent-adolescent communication to prevent sexual violence.
