Abstract

This study aims to describe how well students understand concepts when working with linear equations with two variables in math literacy assignments. The study design uses descriptive qualitative approach. The study subjects were two eighth-grade students based on three categories of conceptual understanding determined during the data reduction procedure to become study participants taken at SMP Negeri 1 Lamongan. The data collection involves providing mathematical literacy exercises on linear equation of two variables (SPLDV) and conducting interviews. Students with medium understanding could grasp basic concepts but struggled with reasoning and complete representations, while those with low understanding relied on memorization and failed to translate real-world problems into mathematics, indicating a strong link between conceptual depth and mathematical literacy performance.

Abstract

The rapid growth of coffee shops in Lampung has increased demand for Robusta Lampung, Arabica Kerinci, and Arabica Aceh Gayo, causing stockouts and overstocking at a coffee roastery. This study uses the Period Order Quantity (POQ) method to optimize inventory by ordering based on predictable demand periods, reducing order frequency and costs. Using demand data from the last six months of the year, POQ outperforms the manual inventory policy. Assuming a 5% holding cost and 90%–99% service levels (ensuring product availability), POQ reduces costs by 0.119%–0.163%, boosting profitability. Adopting POQ with real-time demand tracking can balance inventory and meet rising demand.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective student worksheet (LKS) for linear programming material based on the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) model with peer feedback. Using a Research and Development (R&D) design comprising definition, design, development, and dissemination stages, data were collected through validation sheets, questionnaires, and tests. The developed worksheet was assessed as valid by experts 80%, practical based on student and teacher responses 85%, and effective in improving learning outcomes. Effectiveness was indicated by 79% classical completeness and a significant improvement in Post test scores compared to Pre test results (p < 0.05 ). The findings show that the MMP-based worksheet with peer feedback meets the criteria for valid, practical, and effective learning tools.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate Mathventure SPLDV, an Android-based educational game to enhance eighth-grade students’ critical thinking on Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables. The study used the ADDIE model in a Research and Development (R&D) approach. Data were collected using questionnaires and essay tests, and analyzed using a paired samples t-test after meeting normality and homogeneity assumptions. Validation from media and material experts showed high validity (87.78% and 93.63%), while student and teacher responses showed high practicality (89.26% and 96%). A significant improvement in critical thinking was found (t = 2.638 > 1.6698), indicating H₀ rejection. Based on the results, Mathventure SPLDV is recommended for classroom use as an effective tool to support students’ critical thinking

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of the CORE learning model assisted by Liveworksheet and examine the effect of self-efficacy on students' mathematical reasoning. A quantitative method with a posttest-only control group design was used. Instruments included a reasoning test, self-efficacy questionnaire, student response questionnaire, and observation sheet. The sample consisted of eighth-grade students at SMPN 16 Semarang, selected through cluster random sampling. Data analysis involved planning, implementation, evaluation, and simple linear regression. The results showed the CORE model with Liveworksheet was of good quality, and self-efficacy significantly influenced mathematical reasoning, contributing 71.6%. It is recommended that the interactive CORE model be further developed along with differentiated teaching tools to ensure learning becomes more adaptive to students’ needs.

Abstract

Regional economic growth is influenced by various factors that need to be analyzed accurately to support the formulation of effective policies. This study aims to analyze the influence of economic factors on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in North Sumatra Province. The main issue raised is the need for an appropriate model to understand the relationship between economic variables and GRDP. This study uses panel data from 33 districts/cities during the period 2019–2023 obtained from official sources. Through Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange Multiplier tests, the Fixed Effect model was selected. The results indicate that population size, number of poor people, and Human Development Index (HDI) significantly influence RDP.

Abstract

Mathematics is used in various aspects of life, including the maritime and marine world. Mathematical concepts are widely used to solve problems in this field. Understanding abstract mathematical concepts requires a tool to bridge these concepts into concrete forms. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of using the Android version of GeoGebra software in improving the mathematical abilities of cadets. GeoGebra is a comprehensive and easy-to-use mathematical software. A study conducted on cadets at Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar found that the use of the GeoGebra application had a positive impact on their understanding of mathematical material. This was demonstrated by inferential statistics tests and supported by the cadets' responses to the application's use in learning.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is a crucial competence in maritime education, supporting navigation accuracy, operational efficiency, and safety-related decision-making. However, empirical studies assessing mathematical literacy within authentic maritime vocational contexts remain limited. This study investigates the contextual mathematical literacy of nautical cadets using the PISA proficiency framework embedded in authentic maritime work-related scenarios. A quantitative descriptive design was employed with 23 cadets from a maritime vocational institution. Data were collected through a Contextual Mathematical Literacy Test (CMLT) developed using authentic maritime operational tasks. Descriptive and non-parametric analyses examined proficiency distributions and group differences. The findings indicate that most cadets perform at low to medium proficiency levels, highlighting the need for context-based and PISA-oriented mathematics instruction aligned with professional maritime demands.

Abstract

Dengue Fever Transmission is a serious, potentially fatal infectious if unmanaged disease. It caused by the dengue virus, transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. In West Java, cases remain high and fluctuate significantly, requiring precise mathematical modeling to describe transmission dynamics. This is the first study applying Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) in West Java to estimate the SEIR-SI model, compared to Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), using dengue fever transmission case data from 2010–2023. Performance was assessed via Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) for the infected human population ( ), showing EnKF’s superior accuracy (2.4%) over UKF (7.8%). EnKF effectively estimates hard-to-measure epidemiological variables and this study can support government prediction-based dengue fever transmission control policies.

Abstract

This study develops a Susceptible–Exposed–Infectious–Recovered (SEIR) mathematical model with two time-dependent optimal control strategies educational campaigns and medical treatment to analyze Ebola transmission. The nonlinear system is examined using Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle, and the optimality system is solved numerically through the Forward–Backward Sweep Method in MATLAB. Simulation results show that combined controls substantially reduce the peak number of infected individuals, decrease cumulative infection cases, and shorten the epidemic duration compared to the uncontrolled scenario. Early implementation of both interventions further improves epidemic suppression and reduces the overall cost functional value. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of integrated control strategies and highlight mathematical modeling as a decision-support tool in public health planning.
