Abstract

This article examines the debates on the relationship between religion and state in the early formation of Indonesia’s independent. The formulation of this relation was firmly stated in the Jakarta Charter, as “the state is based on a divinity, which obligates the Muslim to implement the shari’a of Islam”. Thus the Jakarta Charter provides an evidence that the implementation of shari’a has to involve the state. However, the charter was modified by Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independent (PPKI), just a day after proclamation of independent, and the relationship between religion and state became unclear. During the rule of the authoritarian New Order regime the voice demanding implementation of the shari’a was largely unheard, but it does not mean that the aspiration had died down. After the fall of Soeharto, and the rise of “Reformasi” order, political parties with affiliation to Islam took a strong stance to demand that omitted seven words in the Jakarta Charter were reinstated. Is the demand to restore of the seven words corresponds to the ideas of its formation during debates in the Committee for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independent (BPUPKI) in which the document was formulated? To answer this question I investigated the minute of the Committee with special attention to Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, a Muslim representative which has well known as a vocal person in the Committee. The answer is, as I found a fact that the seven words formula in the Jakarta Charter was strongly rejected by Hadikusumo. Keywords: BPUPKI, Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Jakarta Charter.

Abstract

Tau Taa Vana is a minority ethnic group living in Dataran Tinggi Bulang, Central Sulawesi. There are around 1500 inhabitants. They believe in Pue, their only God, and practice Halaik, a local customary religion. According to them, custom (adat) is the same as religion. Halaik, literally means belief. For the people of Tau Taa Vana, custom, tradition, and traditional medication are united as a religion system. Kapongo is the main ritual that provides offerings (sesaji) consisting of betel, areca nut, and lime to the super natural essence or Pue. These offerings are delivered in every special occasion, such as hunting, planting, harvesting, medicating, building house, and ceremonial feast. However, they have no church, no temple, and no regular worship. They can pray anytime and anywhere in various ways. Halaik is a genuine belief that has been practiced by Tau Taa Vana since a long time ago. In the past five decades, however, some of them have converted to be Muslims as well as Christians. Nevertheless, to the present days they still faithfully practice Halaik, their old religion. Keywords: Halaik, Kapongo, Pue, Dataran Tinggi Bulang

Abstract

This article is aimed to seek answers on whether religion can really be the causing factor of conflict, or whether conflict is actually ignited by cultural and other factors. For that purpose, it is also important in this article to see the relation between religion and culture. Religion has potency as peace keeper factor, so as conflict raiser. Exclusivity and claim for truth of a religion has been accused as the main factors that can raise religious conflict. Liberalism movement was trying to reduce these claims for truth among religious beliefs. Exclusive pluralism which was one form of the movement failed since it did not recognize exclusivities of religions which are embedded within each religion. Better approach to pluralism is that respect of religious rights as basic human rights, should then be followed by basic human duties. Despite theoretical issues, the relation between religion and conflict needs further mapping, a method which is also presented in the last part of the article. Abstract

This article examines the interaction between Islam and the Dutch East-Indies administration in Java from its formation in the early eighteenth century to the end of Dutch administration in 1942, with respect to religious courts and the role of the pangulu. This article argues that the interaction between colonial government and the pangulu institution rested on the hypothetical proposition that both the colonial ruler and the religious courts needed each other. On one hand, the Dutch viewed that the religious courts should be maintained in order to reduce the possibility of an eruption of an undesirable situation, such as a rebellion. On the other hand, for the pangulu, it was felt that the institution might be lost in the absence of official appointment by the ruling authority.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v7i1.717

Abstract

Indonesia has made efforts to control tuberculosis but the results have not shown significant changes. The Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse (DOTS) strategy has been implemented by the government for decades, but the number of sufferers remains high. The DOTS strategy has not been able to overcome the factorsthat cause tuberculosis because each region has different causal factors, therefore it is important to know what factors most influence the incidence of tuberculosis in Makassar. This research is a quantitative study with a crosssectional study design. The research was carried out in the working area of the Makassar Rappokalling Community Health Center. The population is tuberculosis patients who are undergoing treatment. The total sample was 109 respondents. Of the 109 respondents, 88 (80.7%) had a history of contact with tuberculosis sufferers, 85 (78.0%) had poor nutritional status, 81 (4.3%) had poor behavior in preventing transmission, 59 (54.1%) lacked knowledge. %), lack of family support 79 (72.5%) and feel high levels of societal stigma 91 (83.5%). The results of the KMO analysis are >0.50, which means that the factors that influence the incidence of tuberculosis cases are, sequentially, nutritional status (0.0795), history of contact with sufferers (0.776), behavior to prevent transmission (0.763), knowledge (0.726), public stigma (0.678) and family support (0.639). Factors such as nutritional status, history of contact with sufferers, behavior to prevent transmission, knowledge, community stigma and family support are factors that cause the incidence of tuberculosis and can be the cause of the increase in the number of tuberculosis cases in Makassar.

Abstract

Temperature and salinity are oceanographic parameters that play an important role in physical, chemical and biological process in the sea, such as in mixing process, dissolved oxygen concentration and the distribution of marine organisms. This study aims to determine the distribution of temperature and salinity in the waters of Kayo Pulau, Jayapura City. The study was conducted in November 2023. Temperature and salinity were measured using a digital thermometer and hand refractometer. Water samples were taken at a depth of 1 m at 5 observation stations spread around Kayo Pulau Village. The study found, the temperature in the waters of Kayo Pulau ranged from 29.2-29.5°C, with an average temperature of 29.3°C. The salinity in Kayo Island waters is very high, ranged from 33.40-35.00%0, with an average of 34.28%0. The temperature and salinity in Kayo Pulau waters are still within the optimal range to support the survived of marine organisms

Abstract

Cenderawasih Bay is one of the territorial waters of Indonesia which has a fairly high fishery potential. In 2022, the bay's fishery potential reaches 135,140 tons but the utilization rate is still at 0.3, which means that it has not been fully utilized, especially small pelagic fish. This shows the need for an estimation of the distribution of fish in the bay that can take advantage of the hydroacoustic method. This research uses a split beam echosounder SIMRAD EY-60 which is operated at a frequency of 38 KHz and a pulse duration of 1,024 ms to obtain fish distribution data. Environmental parameter data was obtained using data from marine.copernicous.eu at the same time as fish distribution data collection. The distribution of fish also shows a fairly diverse distribution of values with the highest SV value range at -59.7 to -57.4 dB and the highest TS range at -59.4 to -46.7 dB. The distribution of fish was also seen to be more concentrated in areas with warm temperatures and spread evenly in each salinity range with the number of fish detected approaching areas of higher chlorophyll concentration.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the moderating impact of gender on the relationship between investment interest among students and the influence of financial literacy, demographic factors, risk perception, and financial behavior. This is a quantitative study employing primary data, specifically information extracted directly from the responses of the participants. In this investigation, samples comprised ninety respondents. The methodology employed in this study is the multiple linear regression examination of the data. Demographic factors and financial behavior, in addition to financial literacy and risk perception, have a positive and statistically significant impact on the investment interest variable among students, according to the findings of this study. In contrast, the relationship between investment interest and the impacts of financial literacy, demographic factors, risk perception, and financial behavior remains unaffected by gender.
