Abstract

High demand for plastic products from year to year creates the need for plastic molding machines that can mass produce plastic products. An example of a plastic molding machine used at PT. X is a VK type extrusion blow molding (EBM) machine. Based on data from PT. X, the downtime of the VK type EBM machine reached 215.74 hours in 2021-2023. Therefore, improvements are needed in the machine maintenance management system. The purpose of this research is to determine the critical components, determine the reliability value of the critical components, and also establish a preventive maintenance schedule along with a cost budget plan for each critical component of the VK type extrusion blow molding machine at PT. X to increase the effectiveness of existing production activities. The method used is Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) with the application of RCA and FMEA methods to find critical components, then calculate the reliability of critical components as a reference for making preventive maintenance schedules. The data used are the failure data of VK type EBM machine in 2021-2023 period. The results of this study obtained 4 critical components with a reliability value of 0.5, namely the clamping unit at 210.3149 hours, the cutting unit at 79.9911 hours, the head unit at 677.5324 hours, and the hydraulic unit at 424.1550 hours. Maintenance planning is based on the IRRO (Inspection, Repair, Replace, Overhaul) method. The total maintenance cost for the period 2025 is Rp 35,093,903, which reduces the cost by 8.5% compared to 2023.

Abstract

This company operates in the Food and Beverage sector, selling Martabak, an Indonesian snack. The company needs to deliver flour to 25 branches spread across Bandung, Indonesia, every day, with varying demand capacities at each branch. Each day, the total amount of flour to be delivered is 377 boxes. Currently, the company has 12 distribution routes with a total distance of 271,16 km, with each route covering only two stores. However, these routes are too many and vehicle capacities need to be optimized, resulting in a high total travelled distance. The aim of this research is to optimize the delivery routes to reduce the total travelled distance and number of routes. To address this issue, known as the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), heuristic methods were employed, specifically the nearest neighbour method for initial route construction and Intra-Route (1-0) Insertion for improvement. Implementing these heuristic methods resulted in a final total of 6 distribution routes with a total distance of 160,90 km. This method successfully reduced the total travelled distance by 110,26 km and reduced the number of routes by 6. In conclusion, the application of heuristic methods in solving the VRP for this company proved to be effective in reducing both the total travelled distance and the number of routes, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency of the delivery process.

Abstract

Distribution routes are distribution delivery routes that are created taking into account distance traveled, transport equipment capacity, and delivery capacity so that distribution costs are minimal. To date, there are 14 routes with 32 delivery points. Of the 14 existing routes, there are drop points through which several routes pass. So, companies need to evaluate the routes currently used. This problem arises as a result of the increase in shipping capacity over time. The general objective of this final research is to obtain alternative distribution routes in the process of distributing goods and analyze route improvements by comparing company routes and alternative routes obtained using the Saving Matrix and Clarke & Wright Savings methods. The research results showed that alternative distribution routes using the Saving Matrix method experienced an increase in costs of 5.4% from the original costs. Meanwhile, using the Clarke & Wright Savings method, distribution costs decreased by 3.6% per day. The improvement proposal given is an alternative distribution route using the Clarke & Wright Saving method, which has 11 routes and a savings of 3.6%.

Abstract

Vehicle routing problems (VRP) are common in many companies and play an important role in distribution and logistics. Effective routing can significantly reduce expenses and increase customer satisfaction. The research entitled "Determining VRPTW Distribution Routes with Rigid and Flexible Time Windows and Assigning Based on the Demand Numbers" will solve the modified vehicle routing problem with time window (VRPTW) problem by considering constraints on vehicle capacity, delay times, penalty fees for delays, rigid and flexible time windows, and demand numbers. There is one origin depot for the company that will serve their 15 customers. The method used to overcome the problem is mixed-integer linear programming (MILP). In general, this research classifies time windows into three groups, namely rigid, flexible, and rigid and flexible. The time window model chosen is a rigid time window with a cost of IDR 561,965 and no customers are served late. The rigid time window model was chosen because no customers are served late and the cost difference is not significant or can be said to be very small compared to other time window models.

Abstract

Maintenance is an activity in maintaining and repairing a machine, with the most dominant factor being the increase in downtime. This can lead to a decrease in production output and an increase in production costs. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the maintenance repair system on the machine. Reliability-based maintenance is used to plan maintenance intervals for machines, equipment, or components that frequently experience failures. Thus, the maintenance system becomes efficient. This study aims to determine the implementation of Lean Maintenance (LM) in machine maintenance. The method used to review previous studies employs a systematic literature review. The data process was carried out by identifying, evaluating, and interpreting those related to the topic of machine maintenance. Based on the research conducted, machine maintenance using the lean maintenance (LM) approach has been proven in all reviewed scientific articles to show an efficiency increase of 60.7%, a reduction in downtime, and the ability to determine maintenance schedules. The review includes the categorization and application of the lean maintenance approach based on three parameters: technique, principle, and scope. The maintenance tools or techniques most commonly used in waste reduction are Maintenance Value Stream Mapping and Reliability-Centered Maintenance.

Abstract

The construction of an SME center is an alternative for the Langkat Regency government to develop the furniture industry. Until now, SME centers have not shown economic development and activity as expected. A prospective strategy to analyze internal and external environmental factors related to development, competitiveness and existence needs to be owned by SME centers. This research aims to analyze internal and external factors, as well as develop alternative strategies for developing the Langkat Furniture SME center. The analysis tools used are the SWOT matrix and QSPM. Previous research did not determine a development strategy for the small industrial sector which focused on centers built by the government with the concept of artificial development. Respondents in this study were SMEs and government employees who knew the conditions of the centers as a whole. The results of the IE matrix analysis show the position of SME centers in quadrant I, namely belonging to the category of growth through vertical integrity. The formulation of alternative strategies from matching each internal and external factor in the SWOT matrix resulted in 9 strategies. The results of the IE and SWOT matrix assessment and analysis of the strategies formulated show that the strategies required regarding the development of SME centers are intensive, namely market penetration, product development and market development. The QSPM analysis displays strategic decisions that are priorities according to the conditions of the Langkat Furniture SME center, namely the commitment of the local government in developing the center.

Abstract

Indonesia as a maritime country, most of the transportation in Indonesia is carried out by using sea transportation around 88%. However, the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) of Indonesia is alarming and declining from 3.15 in 2018 to 3.0 in 2023, particularly in Timeliness (3.7 to 3.0) and Tracking & Tracing (3.3 to 3.0). Therefore, it needs a comprehensive improvement strategy, especially to optimize the hub port connectivity. This study would like to establish the new hub port connectivity in Indonesia to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the port. This study use Principle Component Analysis (PCA) to determine the variable, eliminate the correlation among variables to obtain the new variables as the clustering determinants factor, and use Clustering K-Means to group similar characteristics of the alternative port that can be used as the main port. The result of Principle Component Analysis (PCA) which has gained new variables are regional spatial system, national transportation system, national defense, operational cost, and port services. The result of K-Means Clustering, Tanjung Priok, Panjang, Tanjung Emas, Tanjung Perak, Palembang, Teluk Bayur, and Belawan are the main port or hub port connectivity to increase the effectiveness and efficiency in the sea transportation. Tanjung Priok and Panjang can connect Java and Sumatra, while Tanjung Emas and Tanjung Perak can link Java and South Kalimantan. Palembang, Teluk Bayur, and Belawan can also play important roles in their respective regions. By investing in infrastructure and improving connectivity, Indonesia can enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of its maritime trade.

Abstract

As business competition intensifies, an organization needs to streamline operations and improve plant performance, focusing on minimizing waste. At Company XYZ, inefficient processes have led to persistent waste in crude palm oil (CPO) production, particularly in the forms of motion, waiting, and transportation. The objective of this study is to identify waste in the CPO production, analyze its root causes, and propose actionable improvements. A lean manufacturing approach was employed using Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Waste Assessment Model (WAM), Waste Assessment Questionnaire (WAQ), Value Stream Mapping Tools (VALSAT), and Cause-and-Effect Diagram methodologies. The VSM analysis revealed motion, waiting, and transportation as the primary waste categories. Waste identification using WAM ranked motion as the most significant waste (19.39%), followed by waiting (14.91%), transportation (14.57%), overproduction (14.23%), defects (14.21%), inventory (14.17%), and overprocessing (8.52%). Process Activity Mapping (PAM) identified 34 activities, with 50% being value-added, 9% non-value-added, and 41% necessary but non-value-added. This research improves operational performance and productivity in CPO production using lean tools. These interventions are expected to reduce waste and enhance operational performance significantly.
