Abstract

Abstract The research objectives are to find the abilty of the students out in using the personal pronouns in the Narrative Text at Grade Ten of SMA Swasta Pencawan Medan During Covid-19 Pandemic and to know more about the the factors that affect the ability of the students in using the personal pronouns in the Narrative text. The research subject is 37 students. They are from X-Science class of SMA Swasta Pencawan Medan in school years 2020/2021. There are 18 students who get very good score (score: 80-100). It can be stated into percentage form, there are 48.65 % of students who can get very good scores. Meanwhile there are 13 students who get good score (score: 70-79). It can be stated into percentage form that there are 35.14 % of students can achieve good score. 4 students get fair score (score: 60-69). It can be stated into percentage form, that there are 10.81 % of the students who can achieve fair scores. 2 students get low score (score: 50-59). It can be stated into percentage form that there are 5.41 % who get low scores. The total scores of the students are 2,870 and the mean scores is 77.57. It can be concluded that the students score generally is above KKM (Minimum Criteria of Mastery Learning). There are some factors that affect the abilty of the students in using the personal pronoun in the narrative text, they are: the students’ interested in learning narrative text, facilities in the school or used by the English teachers, students’ motivation, adequate time, and due to covid-19 pandemic, so the students’ have been joining virtual class (online class) until now. According to the students’ opinion, Virtual class is not very effective for students in learning English, especially when the students learn about the personal pronoun in narrative text. Abstract

Abstract The researchers conducted this research to find out some of the mistakes made by students in writing, especially in writing narrative text. The researchers involved several grade VIII students of SMP SWASTA VALENTINE DELI SERDANG in academic year 2020/2021. The researchers conducted a qualitative descriptive study with 15 students participating in the study by giving them a questionnaire test. This study found 4 types of grammatical errors in students' writing, namely spelling, verb tense, article, and capitalization with the following number of errors. 1: Spelling with 29 errors = 18.70%, Verb tense with 69 errors = 44.51%, Articles with 31 errors = 20% and Capitalization with 26 errors = 16.77% . The total accumulated grammar mistakes made by the students were 155. Keywords: analysis, grammatical errors, narrative text.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to uncover what extent of the Revitalizing the Meaning of Nias Language Proverbs as Character Building foe EFL Learners in Nias. In conducting this research, the research designis Ethnography is a type of qualitative research design. To collect the data, the study employs the interviews with 5 question and observation given to 30 students from gradeXI MIA 1. The research conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Luahagundre. This study investigates of Nias language proverbs as character buildingwith four types of character according by (Khan, 2010), there are; Moral conservation, Social conservation, Environmental conservation, and Human conservation. As a result of the study, the student experiences a change in character after learning Amaedola in the classroom for example there are previous students whose words are offensive and researchers provide Amaedola as the learning process goes on about amuata nifaigi ba bua-bua nitӧngӧni which means a person is evaluated by his behavior and the manner of his work. The researchers have found that taught Amaedola can motivate the students to achieve knowledge and good character. Researchers found benefits for teachers in the application of amaedola or proverbs to establish character and motivate students to attain their goals. Abstract

Abstract : Layla Majnun is one of the works of Nizami and Romeo and Juliet is one of the works of William Shakespeare. both novels are romance tradegy novels. Romance tragedy novels usually use a lot of figurative language to beautify the language. This study aims to describe some of the types of figurative language in the novel Layla Majnun, to describe some of the types of figurative language in the novel Romeo and Juliet, to describe the comparison of the types of figurative languages found in novel Layla Majnun and novel Romeo and Juliet. The data obtained for this study are qualitative data. This means, the data are not in the forms of numeric. The data were discourse, such as dialogues, descriptions, ideas or perspectives. The main data of the study are taken from the tragedy novels. The collected data are mostly in the forms of discourse and dialogues taken from the novels as the writers of the novels often apply figurative languages to express their ideas. There are several figurative languages in the discourse and dialogues obtained from the novels which could be interpreted by using Pragmatics theory to identify the meaning behind them. The results of this study indicate that there are similarities and differences in figurative languages in the two novels. The similarities between the two novels are Personification, Metaphore, Hyperbole, and Simile. The differences between the two novels are: Parable, Embodiment, Cynicism, Repetitive, and Irony. Abstract

Abstract Textbook is an important media because contains learning materials that employed learners to get knowledge through learning process. To support the learning process, the textbook should be appropriate to the 2013 curriculum. This research used content analysis. The objectives of this research are (1) to explain the topics of writing materials in Bahasa Inggris textbook (2) to explain the writing materials written in Bahasa Inggris textbook (3) to explain the relatedness between writing materials and the K13 curriculum. Here, the result of this research shows that (1) The topic of writing material is appropriate to the 2013 curriculum. (2) The form of writing tasks meet as good criteria because the textbook gave good guideline and explanation exactly in social function, text structure and language feature. (3) The writing material in Bahasa Inggris textbook is related to the English 2013 curriculum because the writing material in the textbook have implemented based on the content of the syllabus of the 2013 curriculum. This textbook is good to use because it is suitable for students in Senior High School for the twelfth grade to increase their writing skills. Abstract

ABSTRACT The research is entitled an analysis of student's ability in identifying interrogative sentences through conversation text in SMK PendidikanSiapMandiri. The purpose of the research is to analyze data in detail to see how far the students' understanding of using interrogative sentences in conversational texts was. In order, it will produce the right of fixed data. This method of research uses conversation text. By using qualitative data, collecting data in using a written test by doing two tests. The results showed that on the first test only a few students get a score of 75, it is estimated that only 30% of students got the score criteria. However, in the second test, the researcher gives another explanation to the students to better understand how to identify interrogative sentences. And the result is that the student's ability has increased by 50%, many students have successfully met the score criteria, namely at least 75. So, the result of the research shows that the analysis of students' ability in identifying interrogative sentences is still lacking. Therefore, the conclusion is they can improve their abilities even better by learning more about an interrogative sentence. Keywords: Conversation text, Interrogative Sentences, Writing.

Abstract

Abstract In this study the researchers want to describe about Huling-huling Acca (Hha) As English Riddles For Fun EFL Learning Strategy In Toba. In conducting the researchers, the research designis Etnografi is a type of qualitative research design. To collect the data the study employ the interview with five questions and observation given to children and the people of Sosordolok, Toba Samosir. This study investigest of HHA as English riddles with five types of values according by (Paul Suparno), there are; sosialismy, adversity quotient, responsibilities, environment, self-relience. As a result the study, It turns out that a lot of kids and people around here are poorly informed about huling-huling acca (hha). As researchers carried out further research, many people which had come to understand hha have proved invaluable. To illustrate "sae mangan ro siganjang obuk" so the values can can in this example of hha are moral and ethical. Because it should have finished eating the rest of the dirt must be eaten. Therefore these hha can be made into a fun learning medium and as an enhanced batak culture in its own language. Key words: Huling-huling acca, english riddles, EFL, learning strategy

Abstract

                                   Abstract The aim of this research is to determine whether using digital storytelling strategy can help students develop their speaking skills, as well as to clarify how using a digital storytelling strategy can help students improve their speaking skills. Classroom action research was used to perform this analysis, which was completed in two cycles. The research subject is 10 students, they are from XI class of SMK Panca Budi Medan in school years 2020/2021. The research data was taken from quantitative data, were collected by giving the retelling stories tests. The mean score for the pre-test was 42,4, post-test I was 62, post-test II was 80. It also evident from the percentage of the students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion – (KKM) score above75. In the pre-test, there were 20% of the students who got score above 75 % In post-test I, there was 40%, meanwhile post-test II, there were 80%. It can be concluded that digital storytelling strategy worked effectively to help students in improving their speaking skills. this research found that using a digital storytelling technique boosted students' speaking abilities significantly. It was suggested that english teachers can apply digital storytelling strategy as one of the alternatives in teaching speaking skills. Keyword: Digital Storytelling Technique, Improving, And Speaking

Abstract

Abstract This research purposed to know the students‟ ability in writing procedure text . The location of this research was in SMP Teladan Medan.The time that was spend in this research was two days. This research was applied by qualitative content analysis. The subject of the research was the students at grade EIGHTH GRADE OF SMP TELADAN MEDAN . Students consist of 26 students. The instruments that used in this research was a test of writing procedure text, interview. The test was asking the students to write the procedure text by using picture series well. Based on the result of the research, the students‟ ability in writing procedure text was low. From this research, there are two instruments in examining their ability including vocabulary,style,mechanism,grammar. It is hoped that by the finding of these trouble, there will be future research on this subject so that there will be some method or strategy that enable to overcome these troubles. engl Key words: ability, writing, procedure text, picture series

Abstract

Abstract As one of the important things in human life, friendship is an essential discussion because it is experienced by almost all people. Moreover, the portrait of friendship has been frequently shown in films. Therefore, this study aims to identify how friendship is depicted in the film Aladdin (2019) and to analyze the significance of friendship for people. It is expected that this study can contribute in the form of theory development in social and cultural studies and help people understand the value of friendship. The picture of friendship that appears in the film in the form of dialogs was used as the main data to be analyzed in this study. By applying representation theory as a semiotic approach, film dialogs were treated as symbols that could be interpreted. The result of analysis reveals that the representation of friendship in the Aladdin can be seen through the three main concepts – the sense of care, mutuality and solidarity which are considered significant in friendship. Furthermore, the result also reveals that everyone can interpret friendship based on their experience. This also affects the purpose of friendship.
