Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the scientific approach applied in geometry transformation material to improve the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students. This research method uses classroom action research. The subjects of this study were students of class IX-B Pataruman Cihampelas junior high school with 12 male students and 8 female students, totaling 20 students. The stages of this research include; Planning, implementing actions, observing and evaluating, and reflecting. This stage is carried out repeatedly (cycles) until the desired student learning outcomes are achieved. In this study, there were 2 cycles. Where the first cycle is carried out online and the second cycle is carried out offline. To evaluate and measure student learning outcomes, test instruments are given in the form of description questions which are carried out before and after the action or often referred to as pretest and posttest. The results of this study indicate that the application of the scientific approach is considered effective to improve mathematical thinking skills in the material of geometric transformation in class IX-B of Pataruman junior high school.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve student learning outcomes on the subject of Two Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV) Class X SMK-TI Garuda Nusantara majoring in Computer Network Engineering (TKJ). This research uses classroom action research (Classroom Action Research). Classroom Action Research (CAR) is an action research conducted when a group of people (students) are identified with the problem, then the researcher plans ways to solve it. The problem formulated in this research is to improve student learning outcomes on the subject of SPLDV by using the Discovery Learning approach. In this study, one sample class was taken, namely class X TKJ 2 in 1 group consisting of 13 students in the 2021-2022 academic year. The research instrument used consisted of 2 cycles by conducting an initial test before the action (pre-cycle) and giving a final test after the action (post-cycle). The results of this study indicate that the discovery learning approach can improve student learning outcomes of Class X SMK-TI Garuda Nusantara majoring in Computer Network Engineering (TKJ) with an average score of 84.62 %.

Abstract

This research is a class action research (CAR). The aim of the study was to find out, [1] the application of problem-based learning to improve the mathematical reasoning abilities of SMK students [2] the effect of problem-based learning to improve the mathematical reasoning abilities of SMK students. The research was carried out using a qualitative descriptive method and adapted to indicators of mathematical reasoning based on Kemmis and Mc Taggart's analysis. research subjects were 36 students of class XI Multimedia 2 at SMKN 3 Cimahi 2021/2022. Collecting data in this study used observation, tests, self-confidence questionnaires and interviews. From the results of tests and interviews it is known that the basic concept of students' mathematical logic questions initially had errors in solving the problems, but there was an increase in each cycle. The results of data on mathematical reasoning ability affect the average percentage of the self-confidence questionnaire which tends to be high, namely score 4 of 25%, score 3 of 19.4%, score 2 of 31.7% and score 1 of 7.9%, so the conclusion is that the mathematical reasoning abilities of SMK students belong to the medium category.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on the results of observations. Many students still make mistakes in solving math problems which have an impact on their ability to understand mathematical concepts. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were Grade VIII students and had a sample of 38 students who were selected by purposive sampling on students with high, medium, and low ability levels and focused on algebraic material. The instrument used in data collection was a test instrument for understanding mathematical concepts in the form of a description of 7 questions. Data were analyzed with a rubric of 3 scale which was processed using Microsoft Excel 2010 (Version 14.0). The results showed that in solving algebraic problems students made many mistakes due to lack of thoroughness and carelessness of 16 students, 13 students made conceptual errors, 12 students made process skill errors, 7 students made notation errors, and 7 students made mistakes. understand the questions as many as 6 students. Factors that cause these errors are the lack of attention in solving problems, students' reluctance to participate in the learning process, and students' understanding of algebra material.

Abstract

This study aims to identify whether there is a significant difference between the Two stay two stray model and the Index card match model on students' mathematical communication abilities. The pretest-posttest design for the comparison group uses a purposive sampling method because the sampling is adjusted to the material to be taught. Participants in this study were class VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 25 Rantau Prapat. A group of students from class VIII A and class VIII B at the Muhammadiyah 25 Rantau Prapat private school were used as the research sample. The research instrument used is a valid description test. From the results of the hypothesis analysis it was found that Ho was accepted and H1 was rejected so that there was no difference in the average results of students' mathematics learning. So it can be concluded that the Index Card Match and Two Stay Two Stray cooperative learning models can improve students' mathematical communication abilities.

Abstract

In this research, the authors investigated difference in the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students at SMKN 1 Grati Pasuruan, in terms of the cognitive style of adaptation and innovation of class XI. Data collection was carried out by giving an Adaptation-Innovation in Workplace s (AI-W) questionnaire to determine students' cognitive styles and the Matrix Problem Solving Task (TPMM) to measure the mathematical problem solving abilities. Data collection is used to obtain relevant and accurate data. The methods used for data analysis techniques are questionnaires, tests, and interviews. In this study, students with an adaptive cognitive style were able to fulfill three of five indicators of solving mathematical problems, while subjects with an innovative cognitive style were able to fulfill four of them. The results of this research indicated that students in the innovation group performed better than the adaptation group. Overall, these results provide a more detail description of individual differences in the math problem-solving abilities of SMK students on the matrix.

Abstract

Learning outcomes are changes in individual behavior which include the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Changes in behavior are obtained after students complete their learning program through interaction with various learning resources and learning environments. In this classroom action research, an analysis of student learning outcomes was carried out using visual media as teaching on quadratic equation material using the quadratic formula method for class IX students to determine the changes that occurred from the application of visual media in learning. The research was conducted by running two cycles with details in each cycle consisting of design, action and observation. The results obtained in the first cycle showed the value of student learning outcomes with an average of 57.7%, in the second cycle of learning with the use of visual media had an increase in learning outcomes to 73.3%. This increase was accompanied by an increase in other factors such as increasing student focus in understanding the material, as well as increasing student activity and courage in answering questions.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore and explore the mathematical elements that grow and develop in the culture of the Boti tribe from a geometric perspective. The research design used was ethnography which consists of 6 stages, namely: selection of ethnographic objects, submission of ethnographic questions, data collection, data recording, data analysis, and writing of the final report. The research instruments used were interview guidelines and observation guidelines. The subjects in this research were Usif Boti as the main informant along with several family members who also acted as translators. The results of the research showed that ethnomathematics can be found in the lopo construction process, including: measuring side lengths using fathoms units, as well as determining the equal distance between the four commander's pillars and making a circular roof lopo using a special technique specially developed by the Boti people and has been passed down from generation to generation. Geometry concepts such as the properties and area of flat shapes are also integrated into the Lopo Boti shape.

Abstract

This study aims to examine mathematical critical thinking skills by applying a contextual approach to the material of relations and functions. This research is a classroom action research. The population of this study were students of SMP Negeri 3 Sukatani in Purwakarta Regency with the number of students used as many as 27 students of class VIII B. The data collection technique was through the results of the students' pretest-posttest essay writing based on the main question instrument from the discussion of relations and functions. Based on the results of research and discussion, students' mathematical thinking skills in solving relation and function problems are in the indicator of solving problems on the function value with a percentage of 70% and in solving problems in calculating the number of mappings with a percentage of 75% which is included in the high category. The contributing factor is that students have not been able to think critically in calculating and solving problems in relations and functions, and drawing conclusions.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of understanding of students in learning mathematics. So that the Problem Based Learning approach was chosen by means of peer tutor discussions. The research process was carried out in three cycles, where each cycle includes 4 stages, namely: 1) the student orientation stage on the problem 2) the student organization stage, 3) the stage of guiding the investigation, 4) the stage of developing the work, 5) the analysis and evaluation stage. Data was collected by purposive sampling, namely 10 students of class XI SMK Karya Bhakti Pusdikpal. Technical analysis of the data is seen from the learning outcomes or the scores obtained from three cycles with a minimum limit of 85% reaching the KKM score of 75. The results obtained from the implementation of the research show an increase, where the student's score has increased from an average of 64.5 to 81.4 and becomes 85.6. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning Method by means of peer tutor discussions can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes and teachers should use this method to increase student activity in understanding the concepts of mathematics learning.
