Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has generated various contemporary issues in Islamic jurisprudence that require adaptive and relevant legal responses. Phenomena such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), crypto assets, and online gaming present new challenges in the areas of religious authority, economic transactions, and digital entertainment ethics. This article aims to analyze these issues through the perspective of moderate fiqh, which emphasizes contextual interpretation and public benefit (maslahah). This study employs a library research method with a qualitative-descriptive approach, examining contemporary fiqh literature, fatwas issued by Islamic institutions, and relevant scholarly journal articles concerning AI, crypto assets, and online gaming. The findings reveal that the legal status of these three phenomena cannot be determined in an absolute manner; rather, it must be assessed based on the purpose of use, potential benefits, possible harms, and its conformity with the principles of maqasid al-shari‘ah. AI may be utilized as a supportive tool within ethical boundaries, crypto assets require evaluation based on transparency and functional utility, while online gaming is permissible as long as it does not involve elements of gharar, maysir, or negligence of religious obligations. This study concludes that moderate fiqh offers a flexible, contextual, and responsive legal framework for addressing contemporary issues in the digital era.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic education from the nineteenth to the early twentieth century marked a crucial phase in the intellectual and institutional development of the Muslim world. This period was characterized by a dialectical encounter between the preservation of classical Islamic traditions and the growing demand for educational modernization in response to colonial expansion, scientific progress, and global intellectual reform movements. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of Islamic educational transformation through the interaction between traditional values and modern educational ideas in both the broader Muslim world and Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative historical approach based on library research, utilizing primary and secondary scholarly sources relevant to the period under study. The findings reveal that Islamic educational reform was significantly influenced by major reformist figures such as Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, Muhammad Abduh, and Muhammad Rashid Rida, whose ideas later shaped the development of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, including pesantren and madrasah systems. The study contributes to the discourse on Islamic studies by demonstrating that the transformation of Islamic education was not merely a process of Westernization, but rather a negotiated synthesis between tradition and modernity that continues to influence contemporary Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the Islamic moral message in Rhoma Irama's song "Setan Pasti Kalah" through the integration of the perspectives of faith and morality. This study departs from the phenomenon of da'wah through music and the rise of moral decadence that demands a model of internalization of Islamic teachings that is communicative and relevant to today's culture. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with a type of library study combined with content analysis of the song's lyrics, audio-visual recordings and Islamic literature related to faith, morality, and da'wah through art. Data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, categorization of themes, interpretation of meaning and drawing conclusions. The results show that the song "Setan Pasti Kalah" contains a construction of a faith message about the oneness of Allah, the weakness of Satan, the urgency of tawakkal, isti'adzah and rejection of supernatural beliefs outside of Allah, as well as a moral message that emphasizes controlling lust, commitment to avoiding sin, habituation of good deeds and the formation of Muslim character with integrity. Practically, the song is a cultural preaching medium to strengthen awareness of faith and morals in the family, education and public spheres.

Abstract

IIndonesia is a very pluralistic country in terms of religion, culture, and ethnicity, so a religious paradigm is needed that is able to maintain social harmony and prevent the emergence of extremism and intolerance. Religious moderation then became the state's strategic policy to maintain harmony, as emphasized through Presidential Regulation Number 58 of 2023. This article aims to analyze the policy of strengthening religious moderation from the perspective of siyasah dusturiyyah, which is a branch of fiqh siyasah that discusses the constitution, justice, and public benefit in the Islamic political tradition. This study uses a literature review method with a qualitative-descriptive approach through analysis of religious moderation literature, national politics, and fundamental concepts in siyasah dusturiyyah and the rules of fiqh siyasah. The results of the discussion show that religious moderation as a state policy is in line with the basic principles of siyasah dusturiyyah, such as justice (al-'adalah), equality (al-musawah), religious protection (hifz ad-din), public benefit (al-maslahah al-'ammah), and prevention of damage (dar' al-mafasid). State policies in strengthening religious moderation also meet the rules of fiqh such as tasarruf al-imam manuthun bi al-maslahah and al-'adah muhakkamah, so that they have normative legitimacy from an Islamic perspective. However, the implementation of religious moderation still faces structural, cultural, and interpretive challenges, especially related to inter-institutional coordination, resistance from extreme groups, and concerns about policy politicization. Overall, religious moderation is a harmonious combination of Islamic values, national political needs, and Indonesia's constitutional framework in maintaining national harmony and resilience.

Abstract

Prolonged inheritance distribution is a recurring phenomenon in Muslim society that often gives rise to legal uncertainty, family conflict, and the neglect of the objectives of Islamic law. This study examines the issue of delayed inheritance distribution from the perspective of al-maslahah and legal certainty, highlighting the tension between normative Islamic inheritance rules and their practical application. The research employs a normative legal method combined with an empirical (socio-legal) approach. Normative analysis is conducted by examining statutory regulations, court decisions, and doctrines of fiqh and ushul fiqh related to inheritance law, with particular attention to the principles of al-maslahah and legal certainty. The empirical approach is employed to investigate the social realities that contribute to the delay in inheritance distribution, including family dynamics, cultural considerations, psychological factors, and institutional practices. This approach is essential because prolonged inheritance cases are not merely normative legal issues but are also influenced by non-legal factors embedded in social life. By integrating normative and empirical perspectives, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the causes and implications of delayed inheritance distribution. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of a more responsive and just framework for inheritance law that upholds al-maslahah and ensures legal certainty in Islamic inheritance practices.

Abstract

Knowledge plays a strategic role in shaping human civilization however, the development of modern science often encounters ethical challenges due to its detachment from moral values. Islam views knowledge not merely as a means of acquiring empirical truth but also as a moral and spiritual instrument that must be oriented toward human welfare. This study aims to analyze the concept of the axiology of knowledge from an Islamic perspective and to explain the objectives, values, and benefits of knowledge for human life. The research employs a qualitative approach using library research, analyzing primary and secondary sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical as well as contemporary Islamic scholarly works. The findings indicate that Islamic axiology places knowledge within the framework of tawhid, maqashid al-shariah, and universal ethical values, asserting that knowledge is not value-neutral but bound by principles of justice, benefit, and moral responsibility. The discussion highlights that Islamic knowledge must be oriented toward moral development, social welfare, and the protection of human dignity and the environment. This study concludes that the integration of knowledge and ethical values in Islamic axiology constitutes a fundamental foundation for developing humanistic, just, and sustainable knowledge.

Abstract

The trajectory of reform and Westernization in the Ottoman Empire reflects a complex and gradual transformation shaped by internal challenges and external pressures. This study examines the dynamics of reform initiatives from the Tanzimat period under Sultan Mahmud II to their culmination in the era of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The introduction situates Ottoman reform within the broader context of imperial decline and modernization, emphasizing leadership-driven change as a critical catalyst. Particular attention is given to the Tanzimat era, marked by the promulgation of the Gülhane Edict (1839) and the Hatt-i Hümayun (1856) under Sultan Abdülmecid, which sought to restructure governance, legal systems, and civil rights in line with modern state principles. This research employs a qualitative library-based method, drawing on primary historical documents, classical Ottoman sources, and contemporary scholarly works in Islamic and Middle Eastern studies. Data were analyzed through historical-comparative and interpretative approaches to identify patterns of reform and ideological contestation within Ottoman society. The discussion highlights that Westernization in the Ottoman context generated ideological fragmentation, represented by three dominant currents: Islamism, Westernism, and Nationalism. These competing perspectives shaped both the direction and limitations of reform, demonstrating that modernization in the Ottoman Empire was characterized by negotiation rather than wholesale adoption of Western models. This study concludes that Ottoman reform and Westernization constituted a transformative yet contested process that fundamentally redefined state, society, and identity in the late Islamic empire.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between faith and ethics in Islamic philosophy through a qualitative study of Al-Ghazali's thought. Using textual analysis of primary works, particularly the Ihya' Ulumuddin (The Islamic Theology), as well as a secondary literature review, this study investigates how the concept of faith (aqidah) shapes and reinforces ethical norms and behavior in the context of Islamic spirituality. An in-depth analysis of classical texts reveals that the integration of theological beliefs and ethical values ??is a crucial foundation for the formation of the moral order and social life of Muslims. The research findings demonstrate that Al-Ghazali's thought offers a holistic synthesis, in which the principle of tawhid serves not only as a foundation for faith but also as a primary driver in the development of personal and social ethics. These findings impact contemporary understanding of the dynamics of the interaction between religious aspects and morality and open up space for interdisciplinary dialogue between theology and philosophy.
