Abstract

PT. Ujong Neubok Dalam is a company engaged in the plantation and processing of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of oil palm which produces the main product, namely palm kernel oil (PKO). The quality of palm kernel oil is influenced by water, dirt, and free fatty acids. Production quality can be good if the established standards produce the product. To achieve the established product quality, companies often experience obstacles that can cause defects, thereby reducing product quality. The purpose of this study was to identify the level of defects and the causes of defects against the standards set by the company using the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) method and to describe improvement efforts. In using the SQC method, there are 5 tools used for quality control, namely check sheets, histograms, Pareto diagrams, control chart diagrams, and fishbone diagrams. Based on the results of data processing, the highest percentage of defects is the Free Fatty Acid content of 93%, Water content of 6%, and dirty content of 1%. The high number of defects is caused by work method factors, humans, machines, and materials. Improvement efforts that can be made are by providing training, supervision, routine machine maintenance, and preventing the accumulation of nuts in the factory.

Abstract

Ergonomics is an approach that makes humans the main actors in the smooth running of the work system. PT. VRIZ is a company that produces stainless steel spoons. The manufacture of spoon products has 8 stages of the process with one employee working at any time and not allowed to stop before break time, the working hours that apply to this company are 7 working hours with 1 hour of rest. Static work has the potential to be easily bored, saturated and sleepy. This study aims to minimize the risky process flow taken in evaluating employee mental workload, analyzing the results of the two methods used, and providing recommendations for improvements in the workplace. With a better understanding of employee mental workload, PT. VRIZ can achieve higher levels of productivity and create a healthier and more sustainable work environment. The stages in this study use the RSME and KAUPK2 methods in data collection, this approach has a tool in the form of a questionnaire that must be filled out by the object or employee. The data obtained will be an early indication to provide improvements to the work system to reduce the impact of work fatigue. The Mental Effort Rating Scale questionnaire is one method of measuring mental workload by referring to the effort expended, while KAUPK2 is one method of measuring worker fatigue. The results of the Mental Effort Rating Scale show an average value of mental load of 115 (the effort expended is very large) and employee work fatigue using KAUPK2 shows the most dominant attributes felt by 8 employees, namely being reluctant to look others in the eye, being reluctant to work diligently and feeling tired all over the body.

Abstract

In the period of the quality manufacturing sector, it is critical to pay attention to raw materials and product compatibility for consumers in order to preserve the quality supplied to them. Quality control is an important step in ensuring that the products produced fulfill defined specifications. Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a technique for monitoring and controlling the manufacturing process using statistical approaches. UD Tiga Kunci Songkok is a top manufacturer of high-quality songkok in Bungah Village, Gresik Regency, Indonesia. Established in 1985, our company has been dedicated to preserving the archipelago's traditions and culture by producing exquisite and comfortable songkok. Even yet, there are still flaws that arise at UD Songkok Tiga Kunci. Defects continue to develop throughout the last five months, from January to May 2024. There are 132 songkoks with faults. If this situation is not addressed, UD will suffer financial losses. Three Key Chompong aims to improve product quality and competitiveness by expanding the use of SPC in songkok production. Additionally, this 5W2H will address product defects. The research revealed that there are three sorts of faults that develop in UD  Tiga Kunci: 45.5% of disorderly amounts, 40.2% of sloppy stitching, and 14.4% of velvet fabric, with the highest number of flaws. The control chart shows values of ucl=0.093, lcl=0, and cl/p ̅=0.043, indicating no deviation from the control line (despite the presence of flaws in the defect proportion). The factors that cause the most flaws in Songkok (untidy sum) are man, material, machine, and process. Knowing this, the corrective actions made at UD. Tiga Kunci keys monitor and evaluate each songkok manufacturing process to obtain mitigation procedures for songkok products.

Abstract

The inventory system throughout the supply chain network must be effectively controlled, making Work in Process (WIP) inventory control essential. In tire manufacturing, Green Tire inventory holds the highest WIP value and is consistently maintained. However, inconsistent order quantities have resulted in uncontrolled inventory levels, leading to overstock in the storage area. This study aims to analyze the priority categories of Green Tire inventory, evaluate the optimal order quantities, and compare total inventory costs to minimize the overall cost. The methods used include ABC Analysis and Production Order Quantity (POQ) with safety stock, applying service levels of 93%, 90%, and 80% for A, B, and C categories, respectively. The findings indicate that Green Tire inventory class A accounts for 65% of the volume and 67% of the total inventory value, class B for 23% of the volume and 28% of the value, and class C for 11.9% of the volume and 5% of the value. Implementing the POQ method standardizes order quantities across rim codes, reducing maximum inventory levels by up to 69.38%. Total storage cost savings reached 66.15%, with only a 0.2% increase in setup costs. The POQ method achieved total inventory cost savings of 52.37% for Green Tire inventory.

Abstract

The very rapid development of the industrial world will have an impact on competitive competition between one company and another. Increasingly tight competition between companies means that companies must continue to improve the quality of the products they produce in order to produce good quality. This research aims to identify the causes of paper product defects in production units and analyze and improve product quality using the Six Sigma method. Data was collected through field observations and interviews, then analyzed using DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) analysis, a framework that aims to improve quality and efficiency by identifying and eliminating the causes of defects or problems in business processes. The analysis results show that the current sigma level is 2.907 with the largest product defect being color defects with a percentage of 37.77% caused by human, machine, material, method and environmental factors. The repair stage is carried out using FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify potential problems and determine recommendations for improvement. Recommendations for improvement activities in quality control emphasize regular monitoring and repair of machines as a guide for operators to maintain consistency in carrying out work procedures, increasing the frequency of regular machine inspections, especially for machines that frequently result in defective products, routine replacement of spare parts and repairs. environmental conditions to be carried out in accordance with the initial design of the equipment. And it is hoped that the activities carried out in improving quality control, emphasizing regular supervision and repair of machines, are expected to be able to increase productivity and quality of work produced and can increase profits for the company.

Abstract

The existence of a Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) is very important in maintaining the continuity of the clean water treatment process running smoothly and well. Maintenance of clean water distribution machines and equipment is a matter that requires attention because damage to one of the machines or equipment can cause a cessation of processing activities which results in losses for companies and services. Damage to the water distribution machine in PDAM Tirta Mountala is unavoidable and this happens frequently. This happens because the damage is not properly identified, either in preventive maintenance or in anticipating appropriate action. The purpose of this study is to identify the cause of the damage and propose maintenance actions on the clean water distribution pump machine in PDAM Tirta Montala Aceh Besar. The failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) and logic tree analysis (LTA) approaches are used to anticipate this. FMEA is an approach used to identify and analyze potential failures and their consequences. Meanwhile, LTA aims to prioritize each damage mode and carry out reviews and functions, malfunctions so that the damage mode status is not the same. There are eighteen water distribution pump components with the highest damage frequency. Based on the results of the FMEA, five components with the highest RPN or the highest risk were obtained, namely the vane, stuffing box, bearing bracket support, shaft and bearing components. The five components were then analyzed through LTA and maintenance tasks with several proposed actions including repair, component replacement, welding, thermography, and re-measurement with a vibration meter.

Abstract

The current condition, learning media in Manufacturing Process Design practicum still lacks teaching aids so that it cannot adjust its output according to industry needs. This needs to be improved to support industry-based learning. Before implementing teaching aids, the learning process was theoretical and did not involve students in real simulations, so their understanding of the manufacturing workflow was limited. This study aims to design and implement teaching aids in Manufacturing Process Design and Assembling practicums to support learning with the Learning Factory approach. The design of the teaching aids begins with observing the existing conditions, then determining the improvement plan through focus group discussions. After that, the design is carried out according to the needs of the practicum. The teaching aids made use a Programmable Logic Controller consisting of 4 stations. The use of designed teaching aids provides students with direct experience in the design and assembly process, and facilitates more interactive learning. The results of the study showed a significant increase in students' understanding of the manufacturing process, with more active involvement and an increase in the quality of assignments and practicum reports. These teaching aids have proven effective in creating a learning environment that is closer to real industrial conditions, so that they can improve students' competence in understanding manufacturing and assembly processes comprehensively.

Abstract

Improving and enhancing the performance of both service and manufacturing systems is essential for achieving customer satisfaction with the service. Research on improving and enhancing the performance of gas stations, whether using simulation methods or combinations with other methods, has been extensively conducted. However, studies that focus on improving the queue system at gas stations using simulation methods to reduce queue length and total operational costs are still limited. Previous research has proposed changes in the combination of fuel types at nozzles and the number of operators working per shift to reduce operational costs. However, these studies did not consider the resulting queue lengths. Therefore, this study will propose a design for the queue system and determine the number of operators to reduce queue length and total operational costs. First step, a simulation model of the actual queue system is created. Next step, alternative scenarios are developed for fuel type allocation at each nozzle and for determining the number of operators. Then, a simulation model of the queue system for each scenario is created. The final step is to calculate the queue length and total operational costs for the actual and proposed queue systems. There are 5 alternative scenarios to reduce the number of operators, with the best alternative being scenario 5. Scenario 5 also results in a shorter average vehicle queue length and lower total operational costs compared to the actual queue system. The average vehicle queue length decreased by 0.52 units or 31.71%. Additionally, the total operational cost decreased by Rp 714,717.74, or 23.24%.

Abstract

In the process of learning, having good memory skills is crucial for students. Several factors can affect memory, one of which is an external factor, sound. Sound distraction can disrupt concentration, speed up the pulse rate, and cause sleepiness, but on the other hand, it can also eliminate sleepiness. This research aims to analyze the effect of type and intensity of sound on college students' short-term memory abilities, sleepiness level, and heart rate, analyze the relationship between these variables, and provide suggestions for a conducive learning environment. This research was conducted in a laboratory using Task Short-Term Memory, the Stanford Sleepiness Scale, and an oximeter. The data collected will be processed using ANOVA and Pearson Correlation Tests. The results indicated that the type of sound (preferred music and crowd noise) and sound intensity (±50 dB and ±70 dB) do not affect short-term memory ability, sleepiness level, and heart rate. Furthermore, sleepiness level has a negative correlation with heart rate. Based on the findings, the optimal learning environment suggested for college students is music with a preferred intensity of ±50 dB. In contrast, the worst learning environment is a crowded environment, such as a café.

Abstract

Salah satu perusahaan minyak dan gas bertujuan untuk mengganti jaringan pipa yang ada di wilayah kerja Brantas dikarenakan umur pemakaian sudah hampir melebihi umur desain dan harus diganti dengan desain baru, sehingga diperlukan pigging pemeliharaan dan perawatan pipeline agar memiliki lifetime yang cukup lama dengan alat untuk pigging berupa pig launcher. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut diperlukan desain pig launcher dengan design pressure sebesar 680 psig dan design temperature sebesar 200 ˚F yang disimulasikan dengan finite element methode dengan memperhatikan beban pipeline pada pig launcher. Hasil analisis menghasilkan equivalent von mises pada kondisi hydrotest 30226 psi, operating 35704 psi, sustained 30178 psi, expansion 33833 psi dan maximum shear stress pada kondisi hydrotest 15381 psi, operating 17985 psi, sustained 15364 psi, expansion 17043 psi dan total deformation pada kondisi hydrotest 0,077553 inch, operating 0,10245 inch, sustained 0,077695 inch, expansion 0,10094 inch dimana nilai tersebut yakni  equivalent von mises, maximum shear stress dan total deformation masih dibawah allowable sehingga desain dapat diterima berdasarkan ASME VIII Divisi I.
