Abstract

E-201-11 is one of the components of heat exchanger which serves to increase the temperature of distillated crude oil before it going into the furnace. The use of segmental baffles on the heat exchanger causes dead zone. The fouling phenomenon that arises from the deposition of the compound content in the service fluid in dead zone can result in leakage of the shell and tube. It affects the performance of heat exchanger and production efficiency. The use of discontinuous helical baffle on the shell side minimizes fouling. Research on the variation of helical baffle angle by using Bell-Delaware method resulted in performance value of heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop on the shell side. Fluid flow behavior on the shell side with helical baffle was analyzed by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The fluid flow velocity is a factor that affects the value of heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. Heat exchanger with an angle of 10º have fluid flow velocity of 0,893m/s resulting in the highest heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop value compared to angles of 15º and 20º with values of 585.725W/m²K and 13642.395Pa. The heat exchanger with helical baffle at 10° helix angle presents the best performance among the others variant helical baffles

Abstract

Serdang Bedagai is one of the rice granaries in North Sumatera Province, but its agricultural potential has not been well managed due to lack of water for irrigation, especially in the dry season. With bajayu weir construction, is expected to improve water demand forclean water and irrigation for agricultural processes can be developed and managed bygood. The cost of construction of the dam construction is very large, so it needs to be reviewed if the benefits and income generated are proportional to the costs and losses incurred. The final goal of this research is to conduct financial and economic analysis in the construction of bajayu weir. This study uses financial and economic analysis using Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Benefit cost Ratio (BCR) indicators and also analyzes sensitivity due to cost changes.Optimal handling is estimated after 10 years, so within that time the benefit increases linearly until the 13th year and will remain from year 13 to the next. From the calculation of finance development of bajau irrigation area obtained NPV = Rp.1.778.603.070.507,62-, IRR = 27%, BCR = 4.6.And from the economic calculation of the area of irrigation bajayu obtained NPV = Rp.1.235.038.404.979,95-, IRR = 32% BCR = 6.92.And calculation of sensitivity analysis has also been done to change of cost and benefit equal to ± 5% and ± 10% for financial and economic analysis indicate that project plan still very feasible.

Abstract

In this article we hold on an analytic solution of the well-known cases of difraction and interference of electrons through one and two slits (simply that, the one-dimensional case is assumed only). In addition, we hold an approximations of the electron distribution which offer the interpretation of the results. Our derivation is based on the Feynman path integral formula and this work could also serve an awesome introduction to multiple slits interference. Then it is comparing between theoretical results and simulation in order to get interference pattern of it.

Abstract

Particulate matter (PM) is one of the component in flue gas of diesel engine. As one of air pollution, PM needs more attention, because its existence irritates respiratory. The using of cyclone as additional part of diesel engine, can reduce PM concentration before released to surrounding. However, the shape of cyclone affects the percentage of PM due to turbulence and length of track. In this paper, the prediction of swirling flow in different type of cyclone separator will be conducted by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The analysis will focus on particle movement inside the cyclone separator and its turbulence phenomenon. There are four types of cyclone separator which will be observed: Perry’s method, Stairmand’s method, and the modification of each methods. All of these cyclone separator will have the same velocity inlet, and will be simulated using RNG k- model as the turbulence modelling. The simulation shows that the Stairmand’s method has the best turbulence and can collect most of PM.

Abstract

HLSW is a natural tourist attraction that presents the scenery and experience of natural tropical rainforest exploration. The existing space in the HLSW area is not well ordered, especially in the public zone as the zone visited by more diverse visitors. This can be seen from main routes and some attraction nodes that are not in good condition. Node is the concentration of the area, which is the intersection of HLSW main pathway, the tracking post and attraction area as the activity center. A node must show the indigenous character and accommodate the visitor’s activity. It is necessary to analyze the HLSW node to obtain the type of activity and the condition of physical elements. Observation of the node by mosaic technique, which is to combine several single photographs to get the picture in a wide scope and to understand the role of each node. Results of this research are (i) All three types of nodes are exist in natural condition with very minimal facilities, (2) The number of facilities such as signage and other supporting furniture are not good in quality and not many in quantity, (3) The whole elements does not show HLSW character yet. This causes the concentration of the area to be less attractive and does not show its identity.

Abstract

In the Nawacita program of the Indonesia President, there is a spirit of accelerating the pace of economic growth in all areas, including tourism. In 2016, national income from the tourism sector rose to the fourth position under oil and gas, coal and palm oil. This program is followed up by areas that have great tourism potential, one of which is East Kalimantan. Most East Kalimantan area based on marine tourism, islands and rivers, it is necessary to create adequate facilities to attract more tourists as well as Bali such as in water sport facilities. One of the most famous water sport is kayaking in Sanur, Kuta, Benoa and others. Seeing the potential of marine tourism in East Kalimantan and the use of kayak already exist in Bali, it is necessary to design a kayak that can be utilized in tourist areas of East Kalimantan. The existing tourist areas in the East Kalimantan region have a long distance and isolated locations that require efficient luggage. Besides, the area has not supported tourism facilities and infrastructure needed by tourists. Therefore, the aim this research is to design a folding boar so that practical to be moved, light and easy for the owner to use it.

Abstract

The electroplating industry produces wastewater containing heavy metals. The high surface area of bacteria has the potency to reduce heavy metals content in wastewater since it has ability to absorb the metals. This study aims to find out the bacterial DNA profile after Cd bioremoval process using Bacillus cereus 9632 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa WT. Bacterial culture is applied in synthetic electroplating wastewater. Some Cd concentrations are used to perform Range Finding Test by bacterial culture. The study was conducted in a batch system for three days. The viability test was done by measuring the value of Optical Density and Total Plate Count, while bacterial DNA profile was analyzed by using electrophoresis. The cell viability of B.cereus ATCC 9632 and P.aeruginosa WT had the same pattern which is the higher concentration of Cd metals on cell bacteria surface, the lower cell bacteria viability. The DNA of the control bacteria has the difference between the size and number of bands.
