Abstract

Adolescence is a time of many preferences, including changes in dietary habits that affect nutritional health. Fast foods are popular food choices among teens due to their availability and practical value but if excessively consumed it can lead to health issues such as being overweight and obesity. Another challenge in digital era, teenager lacked in physical activity. Good physical activity increases energy expenditure, and more frequent exercise helps balance energy intake from food. Both have emerged as concerns due to increasing cases of overnutrition among adolescents, especially those who live in a big city. This study used a cross-sectional design with 188 randomly selected students of SMA Pasundan 2 Kota Bandung. The aim of the study is to evaluate fast food consumption, physical activity and their relationship to student’s nutrition status. Food consumption assessed with Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), while physical activity and nutritional status were measured with Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) also to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). Among 151 students who frequently ate fast food, 80 (42.5%) overnourished, and 71 (37.2%) had normal nutrition status. 37 students who ate fast food less often, 23 (12.2%) had normal nutrition status, 14 (7.5%) were overnourished. 67 students (35.6%) who frequently ate fast food and had good nutrition mostly engaged in physical activities. Additionally, 48 students (25.5%) who frequently ate fast food but had poorer nutrition were also more likely had high physical activities. Statistical analysis showed no significant relation between fast food consumption and overnutrition (p = 0.09). However, there was a significant association between overnutrition and physical activity levels (p = 0.01).

Abstract

Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease that causes neurological and motor impairments, often leading to reduced muscle strength. Music Movement Therapy (MMT) is a non-pharmacological intervention combining music and range-of-motion (ROM) exercises, which may improve muscle strength and support rehabilitation in stroke patients. This case study was conducted from 13–19 March 2024 on a non-hemorrhagic stroke patient (Mrs. M) at the Teratai Room of Bayu Asih Hospital, Purwakarta. The patient received MMT sessions for 15 minutes daily over three consecutive days. Muscle strength was measured before and after the intervention using Manual Muscle Testing (MMT scale). Muscle strength improved from grade 2 (full joint motion without resistance) on day 1 to grade 4 (able to resist light to moderate resistance) on day 3 after the intervention. MMT effectively increased upper-extremity muscle strength in this non-hemorrhagic stroke patient. Health professionals may consider MMT as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention to enhance motor function in stroke rehabilitation.

Abstract

The development of information technology in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 has encouraged hospitals to implement Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as part of the Hospital Management Information System (SIMRS). EMR implementation is expected to improve patient safety, documentation quality, and nursing efficiency. However, the use of EMR may also affect nurses’ workload, particularly in inpatient settings where documentation demands are high.  This study aimed to determine the relationship between the implementation of nursing care documentation using the EMR application and nurses’ workload in the medical-surgical inpatient unit of Welas Asih Regional Hospital. This study used a cross-sectional design with a total sampling technique involving 35 nurses working in the medical-surgical inpatient unit. Data were collected using a modified questionnaire that had been tested for validity. The results showed that most nurses implemented nursing care using EMR well (54.3%), and the majority experienced a moderate workload (40.0%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between EMR implementation and nurse workload (ρ-value = 0.026; α < 0.05), indicating that better EMR implementation was associated with lighter nurse workload. There is a significant relationship between the implementation of nursing care documentation using the EMR application and nurses’ workload in the medical-surgical inpatient unit. Effective EMR implementation can help reduce nurse workload and support better nursing care delivery. Continuous system improvement, adequate infrastructure, and ongoing training are necessary to optimize EMR use in clinical practice.

Abstract

Labor pain is a complex physiological and psychological experience that can lead to anxiety, decreased maternal cooperation, and prolonged labor if not managed properly. Non-pharmacological approaches, including aromatherapy, have become increasingly preferred due to their safety, affordability, and minimal side effects. This study aimed to determine the effect of bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) aromatherapy on reducing labor pain intensity among multigravida women during the active phase of first-stage labor at MB Eneng Nurhayati, Serang City, in 2025. This quasi-experimental research employed a nonequivalent control group design involving 22 respondents, divided equally into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received bitter orange aromatherapy through inhalation using a diffuser for 60 minutes, while the control group received standard care. Labor pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) before and after the intervention. Exact numerical findings showed that in the intervention group (n = 11), pretest pain levels consisted of 27.3% mild pain, 54.5% moderate pain, and 18.2% severe pain, whereas posttest measurements shifted to 63.6% mild pain, 36.4% moderate pain, and 0% severe pain. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test indicated a significant reduction in pain intensity (p = 0.003). The mean VAS score decreased from a moderate level before the intervention to a lower, more manageable level afterward. These findings demonstrate that bitter orange aromatherapy is effective in reducing labor pain among multigravida mothers. The intervention works through olfactory stimulation of the limbic system, triggering relaxation and reducing sympathetic responses. In conclusion, bitter orange aromatherapy can serve as a practical, safe, and effective complementary therapy to support maternal comfort during childbirth and is recommended for broader application in midwifery care.

Abstract

Breastfeeding offers optimal nutrition for infants, yet low milk production remains a frequent concern among postpartum mothers in Indonesia. This study examined the effect of Lagerstroemia indica leaf infusion on breast milk quantity among postpartum mothers at Puskesmas Bontomarannu. A quasi-experimental Two-Group Pretest–Posttest design involved 14 mothers assigned to intervention and control groups. The intervention group consumed the infusion twice daily for two weeks, while the control group received standard care. Breast milk volume was measured using standardized pumping techniques. Paired t-tests showed a significant increase in milk volume in the intervention group (66.25 ml to 90.00 ml; p = 0.010) compared with the control group (64.38 ml to 74.38 ml; p = 0.027). Independent t-test results confirmed a significant posttest difference between groups, indicating the effectiveness of the infusion in enhancing milk production. These findings suggest that Lagerstroemia indica infusion may serve as a practical and affordable galactagogue for postpartum mothers. However, the small sample size limits generalizability and necessitates further research with larger populations.

Abstract

Background: Low back pain is common among pregnant women, particularly in the third trimester, and is mainly associated with physiological changes, including hormonal fluctuations affecting connective and supportive soft tissues, leading to reduced muscle flexibility and elasticity. Pain management during pregnancy involves pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, with this study focusing on prenatal yoga as a non-pharmacological intervention. Objective: To examine the effect of prenatal yoga on reducing the intensity of low back pain in women during the third trimester of pregnancy. Methods: This study employed a true experimental pretest–posttest control group design with 32 samples equally assigned to an intervention group (n = 16) and a control group (n = 16). The intervention was conducted four times over two weeks, with each session lasting 30–60 minutes. Data were collected using a structured checklist and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Statistical analysis used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann–Whitney U test. Results: The prenatal yoga group demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in low back pain intensity following the intervention (p = 0.001), with mean pain scores decreasing from 2.00 to 1.29, indicating a mean difference of 0.71. In contrast, the pregnancy gymnastics group showed a smaller reduction, with mean scores declining from 2.06 to 1.82, yielding a mean difference of 0.24. Between-group analysis confirmed a statistically significant difference in pain intensity (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Prenatal yoga significantly reduces the intensity of low back pain in women during the third trimester of pregnancy.
