Abstract

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition characterized by excessive vomiting, which may lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, acid-base disturbances, and significant weight loss in pregnant women. Management of hyperemesis gravidarum requires controlling nausea and vomiting to prevent active fluid loss. One potential complementary intervention is the use of Zingiber officinale (ginger) herbal therapy. This study aims to describe complementary nursing care focused on managing hypovolemia in a patient with hyperemesis gravidarum through the use of Zingiber officinale herbal therapy. The research employed a descriptive case study design to identify nursing care problems in a patient diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. The subject was Mrs. S, a G1P0A0H0 patient at 9 weeks of gestation. The identified nursing diagnosis was hypovolemia related to active fluid loss, evidenced by nausea and vomiting more than five times per day, weakness, dizziness, dry lip mucosa, capillary refill time (CRT) > 2 seconds, urine ketones 3+, and decreased blood pressure (100/60 mmHg). The nursing intervention focused on managing hypovolemia and reducing nausea and vomiting through the administration of Zingiber officinale herbal therapy twice daily. After 72 hours (3×24 hours) of nursing care, the evaluation showed improvement in the patient’s condition: no more vomiting or dizziness, CRT < 2 seconds, moist mucous membranes, negative urine ketones, improved fluid intake, and stable blood pressure (110/70 mmHg). This study concludes that Zingiber officinale herbal therapy is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting and may help prevent potential complications during pregnancy.

Abstract

Fine motor skills are essential in early childhood development, supporting daily activities and school readiness. Brain gymnastics is a series of structured and simple movements involving coordination between the brain and body, designed to stimulate the nervous system and enhance motor development in a playful way. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 33 children aged 4–6 years were selected using purposive sampling. The Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) was used as the main instrument, completed through parent interviews and direct observation by the researcher before and after the brain gymnastics intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Before the intervention, 21 children (63.3%) showed delayed fine motor development. After the intervention, 30 children (90.9%) reached the normal developmental stage appropriate for their age. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test revealed a significant difference with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in fine motor skills. The results demonstrate that brain gymnastics effectively improves fine motor skills in children aged 4–6 years. Through engaging and coordinated movements, brain gymnastics stimulates neural pathways and supports optimal motor development. It can be applied as a fun and practical method of stimulation in early childhood education settings.

Abstract

Low-birth weight (LBW) infants are at risk of hypothermia due to immature thermoregulatory mechanisms. LBW is defined as a birth weight of less than 2,500 grams regardless of gestational age. Hypothermia can occur in LBW infants even in relatively warm environments, as newborns are unable to regulate their body temperature optimally. If not treated promptly, hypothermia may lead to serious illness or even death. To increase body temperature in LBW infants, an alternative therapy such as Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) can be applied. This study aims to describe nursing care for LBW infants experiencing hypothermia using Kangaroo Mother Care therapy. A descriptive case study design was employed to identify nursing problems. The subject of this study was Baby J. The nursing diagnosis established was hypothermia. Nursing interventions focused on managing hypothermia through KMC therapy, which was administered twice daily for one hour over a period of three consecutive days. Prior to the intervention, an assessment was conducted to identify signs of hypothermia, such as body temperature, lip color, and the infant's general condition. During therapy, Baby J’s mother received direct guidance due to limited knowledge about the correct application of KMC. This required time and educational support from healthcare professionals. After 72 hours of intervention, evaluation results showed an increase in the infant’s body temperature to within the normal range, warm skin, and improved breastfeeding activity. These findings indicate a reduction in hypothermia symptoms. The study concludes that KMC is beneficial in supporting thermoregulation in LBW infants. Kangaroo Mother Care therapy has proven effective in increasing body temperature in LBW patients.

Abstract

The decrease in estrogen production during menopause affects the quality of life with the emergence of menopausal symptoms and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. After the menopause transition, when estrogen levels in a woman's body decrease, the risk of cardiovascular disease increases rapidly, and at older ages, women have the same or even slightly higher risk of cardiovascular events as men. Low-impact aerobic exercise for 20-30 minutes, three times a week for two weeks, will have a positive effect on quality of life. The administration of soy has the potential to reduce menopausal symptoms and complaints due to its phytoestrogen content. Phytoestrogens have a structure and function similar to estrogen. Phytoestrogens are also known to have potential as an alternative hormone replacement therapy to alleviate premenopausal symptoms such as hot flushes caused by the decrease in estrogen hormone levels in the body. The objective of this study is to specifically determine the effects of low-impact aerobic exercise and soybean milk on triglyceride levels and menopausal symptoms  in menopausal groups. This research was a Quasi-Experiment with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The result shows that low-impact aerobic exercise and soy milk have an effect on reducing triglyceride levels with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05 and a mean delta reduction of 72.0. It can be concluded that there is an effect of low-impact aerobic exercise and soy milk on triglyceride levels and reduce menopausal symptoms in the menopausal group.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major global health issue, affecting over 160 million children under five. In Indonesia, the prevalence is still high, posing a threat to optimal child development. This study aims to determine the relationship between feeding patterns and the incidence of stunting in toddlers (aged 1-5 years) at Posyandu Mawar 5, Sukasari Village, Karangtengah District, Cianjur Regency. A cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study was conducted involving 53 toddlers and their mothers using total sampling. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire on feeding patterns and anthropometric measurements. Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman rank test. The findings showed that 67.9% of toddlers received appropriate feeding, while 32.1% did not. Among toddlers with inappropriate feeding, all were stunted (32.1%). A significant relationship was found between feeding patterns and stunting (p < 0.001). Inappropriate feeding patterns are strongly associated with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. Educational efforts for mothers regarding proper nutrition and feeding practices are essential in preventing stunting.

Abstract

Stunting remains a critical public health issue that impairs child growth and development. In Cibeber sub-district, 6.83% of the total 1,339 preschool‐aged children were stunted, with the highest rates observed in RW 08 (38 children), RW 06 (32), and RW 03 (22). According to Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2/2020, stunting is defined as a height-for-age z-score below –2 SD. This study aimed to evaluate whether anthropometry training using the mobile application BERAKSI can improve community health workers’ knowledge of early stunting detection. Employing a descriptive quantitative design with a pre-test–post-test, we involved all 18 community health workers from Posyandu Rose A and B in RW 08, Cibeber. Pre-training, 56% (10) of community health workers demonstrated good knowledge, 33% (6) fair, and 11% (2) poor. Post-training, all community health workers (100%) achieved good knowledge. The findings indicate that comprehensive anthropometry training, combined with application-based guidance, significantly enhances community health workers’ knowledge. For accurate growth surveillance and record keeping in maternal–child health books, community health workers must possess standardized anthropometric skills and proficiency.

Abstract

White blood cell (WBC) classification plays a crucial role in hematological diagnosis and is typically performed manually using microscopic images. However, manual analysis is limited by subjectivity and time inefficiency. With recent technological advances, artificial intelligence (AI) offers promising solutions for automated WBC classification that enhance accuracy and efficiency. This study presents a scoping review of 20 scientific publications discussing AI applications in microscopic image-based WBC classification. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Enginers (IEEE) Xplore, and Google Scholar using relevant keywords such as “AI”, “white blood cell”, and “microscopic image”. Findings indicate that the most commonly used method is Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), either standalone or hybrid (e.g., YOLOv5, ResNet, Vision Transformer), achieving accuracies up to 99.7%. The datasets were mostly public Blood Cell Count and Detection (BCCD), Leucocyte Images for Segmentation and Classification (LISC), Raabin-WBC or local laboratory sources. The reviewed studies aimed at automatic WBC detection, classification, and morphological identification. Despite encouraging outcomes, challenges such as external validation and limited access to real clinical data remain. Overall, AI has proven effective in enhancing speed, accuracy, and objectivity in WBC classification. Further research is needed to support AI integration into real-world clinical laboratory practice.

Abstract

The elderly population is increasing rapidly worldwide, including in Indonesia, leading to significant health, social, and economic implications. The aging process often leads to physical, psychological, and social changes that can negatively affect quality of life. Thus, ensuring a high quality of life is crucial for achieving successful aging. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the quality of life and successful aging among elderly individuals in Cimahi City. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 128 elderly participants, selected proportionally WHOQOL-BREF and SAS should be briefly explained with full names in parentheses when first mentioned for clarity to readers unfamiliar with them. Was used to assess quality of life, while the Successful Aging Scale (SAS) was employed to evaluate successful aging. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-square test at a significance level of p<0.05. A significant relationship was found between successful aging and the physical (p=0.003), psychological (p=0.000), and environmental (p=0.002) domains of quality of life. However, no significant association was observed in the social domain (p=0.114). The results suggest that physical health, psychological well-being, and environmental support are key factors contributing to successful aging. Social relationships, though important, did not show a statistically significant impact in this study. Health interventions and policies aimed at promoting successful aging should prioritize improving the quality of life for the elderly, particularly by enhancing physical and mental health and ensuring a supportive and secure living environment.

Abstract

The most common problem that arises in maternity mothers is labor pain. Pain during labor accompanied by fear will slow down the labor process. Labor pain will cause hyperventilation, increase oxygen consumption, cause respiratory alkalosis, vasoconstriction of blood vessels in the uterus and acidosis in the fetus. Increasing noradrenaline will lower blood to the placenta and decrease uterine contractions, thereby interfering with the safety of the mother and fetus and the success of vaginal partus. Tera gymnastics can stimulate the heart's ability to pump blood to meet oxygen needs so that the heart works with relaxation, resting pulse, and blood pressure becomes stable. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of the effectiveness of deep breathing and tera gymnastics breathing techniques on pain reduction during the first childbirth. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with two groups pretest-posttest design. The research was carried out at TPMB "P" Cimahi City which was carried out in February – September 2024. The sample in this study is maternity mothers during the active phase 1 who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling technique used was non-random sampling by purposive sampling totaling 40 mothers. The sample in this study was divided into 2 groups, namely the intervention group and the comparison group. Data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test. Based on the findings from the pain scale measurements, the tera gymnastics breathing technique demonstrated a greater reduction in pain with a delta value of 4.4, compared to 2.8 in the deep breathing technique. This indicates that tera gymnastics breathing is more effective in alleviating pain among laboring women during the active phase of the first stage of labor. It is recommended that expectant mothers and healthcare providers implement tera gymnastics and deep breathing techniques during labor to help ease pain and enhance maternal comfort.
