Abstract

Fraud potential in financial statements often occurs. For this reason, this study identifies aspects that cause financial statement fraud (FOFS), including financial targets (FTs), total accruals, and total assets (TATAs), and the industries' nature (NOIs) in the banking and energy sector companies in Indonesia. The data sample is the financial and annual reports of 122 banking and energy companies. The purposive sampling is used for the selection of the data. The analysis uses different test analysis methods and panel data regression tests. The results prove that FTs prove to be a strong predictor of FOFS in banking companies, while in energy companies it is not proven. Furthermore, TATAs have not been proven to affect FOFS in companies in both sectors. Meanwhile, NOIs have a negative effect on FOFS. The implication is for the banking sector, the potential for FOFS is more due to the disclosure of high Return on assets (ROA) and low-income ratios. In contrast, in the energy sector, companies are strongly influenced only by low-income ratios.

Abstract

The minimum wage is a method of achieving a reasonable income for workers by enhancing their well-being while not neglecting increases in productivity, firm progress, and overall economic development. The purpose of this study is to look into the effects of the human development index (HDI), labor force participation rate (TPAK), inflation, and investment on the minimum wage in the Pekalongan Residency's regencies/cities between 2017 and 2022. The study uses secondary data in the form of panel data, which includes cross-sectional data from 7 regencies in the Pekalongan Residency as well as time-series data from 2017 to 2022. The Fixed Effect Model (FEM) serves as the methodological framework. The study's findings revealed that the human development index and investment have a positive and significant influence on minimum wages in the regencies/cities of Pekalongan Residency, refuting the original hypothesis. In contrast, labor force participation and inflation have a negative impact on minimum salaries in the district/city of Pekalongan Residency. The F-test findings corroborate the model's existence, with an R-squared value of 0.9384, showing that HDI, TPAK, Inflation, and Investment account for 93.84% of the variation in the regency/city minimum wage in Pekalongan Residency. The remaining 6.16% is due to other variables not included in the model. Keywords: Regional Minimum Wages, Human Development Index, Labor Force Participation Rate

Abstract

This research is based on the phenomenon of increasing gold transactions in the early 2020 pandemic as an alternative investment. This study aims to answer whether gold acts more as an alternative investment tool or as a diversifier, or is it still relevant as a hedging tool or a safe haven. This study will explore a number of main variables, namely: gold prices, investment interest rates, liquid stock prices, exchange rates and consumer price levels. The data analysis is time-series data with a time span of January 2018 to October 2020. The analytical method used is pairwise correlation and cross-correlation. The results showed, through pairwise correlation analysis, it can be concluded that the gold price variable is more worthy of being called a good store of value or safe haven than its role as an alternative investment or diversification. On the other hand, based on a cross-correlation analysis involving time-lag, the gold price expectation variable for next year has a strong complementarity with the expected investment interest rate variable as well as the expected exchange rate variable. Meanwhile, the relationship between the expected gold price variable and the expected liquid stock price variable, which is often used as an investment tool indicator, has a very strong substitution or diversification relationship.
