Abstract

The relationship between partners is essentially related to gender equality, without the concept of domination in heterosexual relationships. However, many couples experience unhealthy and toxic relationships. Interpersonal communication in such relationships tends to be negative, creating feelings of self-restriction. This research aims to describe the phenomenon of toxic relationships in young adult interpersonal communication. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a phenomenological approach and constructivist paradigm. The research focuses on the young adult phase vulnerable to emotional instability, lack of independence, and immaturity that trigger toxic relationships. Toxic relationships can impact an individual's important interpersonal communication skills for the future. The study concludes that toxic relationships are common among young adult students, especially females. Ineffective communication in toxic relationships is caused by domination and loss of emotional control, making it difficult for subjects to express themselves freely. This transforms interpersonal communication, which should build trust, into a source of conflict and anxiety, even after separating from toxic partners.

Abstract

This article aims to understand the absence or disappearance of anti-tin mining issues in general elections at both the Regency/City DPRD and Provincial DPRD levels in Bangka Belitung. This research uses a qualitative method that allows for understanding the case in a specific time frame and extracting detailed data through various sources and information. This research uses two data collection techniques, namely desk study by utilizing literature and documents related to this topic and field study conducted through in-depth interviews with sources or informants who are considered to have competence and knowledge on this issue. This article finds that the absence of anti-mining issues as a program or idea promoted by regional legislative candidates in the 2019 and 2024 elections in Bangka Belitung is due to two things, namely, first, the intersection of electoral districts that include communities that reject and those who benefit from mining activities. Second, the involvement of the candidates with the tin mining business either as a mining business owner having a family relationship with a tin businessman, or being a banker of the mining business. The calculation of profit and loss based on these two things contributes to the neglect of anti-mining issues as an offer of ideas to gain voter support.  Increasing public awareness regarding the ecological impacts of tin mining, and structuring or engineering of electoral districts including the need to encourage accountability, transparency, and participation in extractive governance are necessary steps to take.

Abstract

Coastal areas are dynamic areas with interactions between land and sea, which exposes complex challenges in integrated management. Law No. 1 of 2014 on the management of coastal areas and small islands in Indonesia is a step to increase state authority in coastal waters management. However, environmental sustainability is often not a top priority in practice. This condition is reflected in various phenomena in Makassar City, where development and human activities have resulted in damage to the coastal environment and marine pollution. This study uses a qualitative approach to analyze the implementation of coastal protection policies in Makassar City. Through interviews with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and communities, it was found that there are still many as challenges faced in implementing this policy. Among them are the readiness of human resources in various relevant agencies, effective communication between parties, complex bureaucratic structures, and the important role of the private sector. With cooperation and commitment from all parties, it is hoped that the implementation of coastal area protection policies can be successful and have a positive impact on the environment and coastal communities of Makassar City.

A sample of 400 was chosen for the study based on the Taro Yamane formula while respondents were selected purposively based on their knowledge of the subject matter. The study used a structured questionnaire to collect data, and the answers were presented using the mean outcome of the descriptive statistics. The hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics using Stata 15.0 software. Findings show that channels of digital advertising such as email advertising, social media, and pop-ups are acknowledged to be creating more visibility of products to consumers. The study affirms the usage of smart gadgets to create an easy avenue for consumers' purchasing behavior to flourish.
