Abstract

Strategic deterrence through the use of sanctions in the international system is gaining support among major players. This is despite widespread scepticism over the instrument's efficacy, as seen by the widespread opposition to its use immediately following its implementation in Iraq in the immediate aftermath of the end of the Cold War. The takeover of Ukraine is the first opportunity since World War II to analyse the results of sanctions on a major power and permanent member of the UN Security Council. The issue raises the question of whether or not sanctions on Russia would be an effective strategy in stopping their aggressiveness in Ukraine. In this article, we analyse how targeted sanctions against Russia's economy can alter the course of the conflict in Ukraine. Given the energy linkages that most of these governments have with Russia, we see the sanctions' proponents the United States, the European Union, and the Baltic States suffering increasingly negative consequences. We also contextualise the acts of sanction busters empowered by the United States' inability to develop a consensus at the United Nations General Assembly and by Russia's veto to thwart the criminalization of their conduct in the United Nations Security Council. Despite this, it is becoming apparent that Russia's economy is feeling the effects of the sanctions, which is substantially diminishing their ability to properly prosecute the war. Methodologically, the study used a historical approach, meaning that it relied on information gathered from previously existing sources including encyclopaedias, encyclopaedia articles, and news stories. In conclusion, the data appears to bolster the view that the possible risk spawned in the harsh reality of targeted or comprehensive sanctions on Russia given the extent of the punishment regime is an acceptable price for the maintenance of the rule-based international order.

Abstract

In this study, the performance of the Coca-Cola Company in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria was evaluated in relation to workplace diversity. A survey research design was used, along with a method of systematic random sampling. For this study, a questionnaire was used as the research tool for data collection, and 148 respondents were deemed useful. The study's theoretical framework was based on social identity theory. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 23.0 was used to perform a linear regression analysis and a Spearman's rank correlation coefficient on the collected data. The study's findings demonstrated that workplace diversity significantly improved the performance of Coca-Cola Company, Benin City, Nigeria. According to expectations, the study also showed a positive and significant correlation between workplace diversity and the performance of the Coca-Cola Company, Benin City, Nigeria. The study comes to the conclusion that it is critical for employers and policymakers to comprehend shifting workforce demographics and the effects of growing diversity on employee behavior. Tensions over cultural issues are likely to increase as the workforce becomes more diverse. As a result, the study suggests, among other things, that organizational leaders/managers enforce cultural mentoring, which is one of the tried-and-true ways to help managers and employees, both new and old, adjust to their roles and the workplace.

Abstract

The spatial transformation in the Noborejo Subdistrict caused the change from an agricultural area to an industrial one. This transformation impacts society, from assets, and access to social changes in the community. Assets consist of land ownership and income of the farming community, while access is related to access to work for the people of the Noborejo Village community. Spatial transformation is also inseparable from social change, patterns of behavior, and social interaction of people when they experience changes from agrarian to industrial. This study aims to identify the transformation of the agricultural to industrial space in the Noborejo Subdistrict and analyze the effect of the transformation of the agricultural to industrial space on assets, access, and social change in the Noborejo Subdistrict, Argomulyo District, Salatiga City. The problem is focused on spatial transformation and its impact on society to find out what changes and influences have occurred after the change in space. To approach this problem, theoretical references from Marxists are used. The data are collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed qualitatively. This study concludes that the transformation of the agrarian to industrial space that occurred in Noborejo occurred after Noberejo changed from a village to a sub-district and joined the City of Salatiga, this change from an agricultural area to industry greatly impacted the assets, access, and social changes of the Noborejo community.

Abstract

Good communication is the key to every relationship. Long distance relationships have many challenges and require a great deal of effort between partners. Couples who, from the start of acquaintance, dating to marriage, are always separated by geographical distance, will need more time to open up. This study aims to examine how couples who are in long-distance relationships from dating to marriage manage relationships and how LDR couples use virtual communication with video calls as a communication medium. Researchers used qualitative research with the theory of Social Penetration put forward by Altman and Taylor to explore how long-distance partners open themselves to their partners. The results of this study show how important the intensity and quality of communication is in a relationship. Intense and quality communication over time leads to deeper recognition, builds trust, and reduces longing between partners. Whatsapp is a choice of communication media that is considered the most useful in channeling emotions and feelings of longing when communicating.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between health diplomacy and COVID-19 containment in Nigeria. The study used a qualitative method which relied on interviews with employees from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which aims to detect and respond to infectious disease outbreaks among other things. Thematic analysis and discussion were conducted on the data obtained from the interviews. The study discovered a link between Health Diplomacy and the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the NCDC and the Nigerian government should maintain their friendship with the foreign partners who have assisted Nigeria in containing the COVID-19 pandemic. This could be accomplished through regular meetings, conferences, and other means of communication, keeping in mind that these partners will not be available all of the time to assist Nigerians in the event of another pandemic in the future.

Abstract

The Niger Delta has for decades been engulfed by oil-related conflicts which have had adverse effects on communities within the region, MNOCs, and the government. Although there are no clear statistics on the number of deaths arising from these conflicts, it is commonly acknowledged that these conflicts have resulted in a large number of deaths and the destruction of properties in the region (Emuedo et all., 2007). In response to this crisis, the government granted unconditional amnesty to the militants, set up developmental agencies, and introduced some policies but they have not achieved the desired outcome. The paper interrogated the use of the Nollywood movie Black November as a viable mechanism for conflict intervention and management tool in the ND. The issues bordering on the quest for emancipation from injustice, environmental degradation, deprivation, inhuman treatment, and negligence, are at the nexus of the agitations and militancy in the region. The objective was to highlight the problems in the region and give credence to the thematic concerns raised by the movie. The paper adopted the Media System Dependency (MSD) theory, which states the relationship between the media, the audience, and society. The method adopted is content analysis. Findings revealed that the movie had a great effect as it attracted international attention to the issues in the Niger Delta region. It concluded that the government and policymakers should take the lessons from this movie and respond to conflict early before they escalate into a crisis with lots of negative effects. It recommended that communities in the ND should be compensated for environmental degradation.

Abstract

The bureaucratic problem that pervades becomes a pathology that weakens existence as well as fosters a negative stigma against ingrained government bureaucracy where bureaucracy is considered a disease (bureaupathology). In addition, the current bureaucracy tends to be patrimonialistic, which is no longer effective and efficient (over consuming and under producing). Every country or even an agency in local government in Indonesia is still very difficult to avoid various kinds of problems in the administration of the bureaucracy, especially related to acts of corruption. Therefore this research was conducted to explain the impact of hypocracy on the performance of apparatus and public services in Mojokerto Regency/City. This research was studied using qualitative methods through literature study through various sources such as journals, official websites, laws, and books related to related topics and subjects. The results of this study are that bureaucratic diseases such as corruption greatly affect the performance of the apparatus in providing services to the public. So, the low quality of the bureaucracy due to bureaucratic pathology (hipocracy) can reduce the effectiveness and efficiency of the apparatus in providing services to the public, therefore the New Public Service perspective is very important to be implemented and used as a guide for bureaucratic reform or reform.
