Abstract

Research on Hadīṡ cannot be separated from two main elements, called sanad and matan. Among Hadīṡ scholars, research on sanad receives more attention than matan, which prompted Salahuddin al-'Aḍlabi to write the book "Manhaj Naqd al-Matn 'Ind Ulama al-Hadits al-Nabawi”, which specifically discusses the critique of Hadīṡ texts. Among several of his critical methodologies are critiques of the matan through rational, sensory, and historical approaches. This research uses descriptive analysis with a normative approach. The results of the analysis show that 1) Al-'Aḍlabi's critical methodology towards Hadīṡ texts that contradict Reason, Senses, and History employs several methods and approaches including hierarchical and integrative assumptions, as well as synchronization methods. 2) Some of Al-'Aḍlabi's assumptions employ a hierarchical approach, where each assumption cannot be separated from the Qur'an and Hadīṡ, reason, then senses, and followed by history. The hierarchical assumptions made can be done not necessarily in a structured (systematic) way but can be done randomly as long as the Qur'an and Hadīṡ remain the top priority in building assumptions. Al-'Aḍlabi's assumptions also use an integrative approach where his assumptions are built and mutually supported among various elements to produce a higher norm. 3) A variety of methods employed by Al-'Aḍlabi with rational, sensory, and historical approaches use synchronization methods. The synchronization method referred to is when there is a contradiction in understanding the Hadīṡ text.

Abstract

This study explores the relevance of textual and living Hadith approaches in Indonesia, focusing on the methods employed and their contributions to a contextual and applicable understanding of Hadith. The textual approach emphasizes a literal and scriptural interpretation of Hadith, while the living Hadith approach highlights the application and practice of Hadith in the daily lives of Muslim communities. Through a qualitative analysis utilizing historical and philosophical perspectives on various religious studies and practices in Indonesia, this article demonstrates that both approaches are complementary in enriching Islamic insight and enhancing the contextual understanding of Hadith within local settings. The findings indicate that textual studies concentrate on deriving meaning from Hadith texts based on established interpretive principles, whereas living Hadith studies investigate community practices shaped by their understanding of these texts. Living Hadith reflects an acculturation between Hadith and local culture, necessitating an interdisciplinary approach, particularly from the social sciences, to fully grasp Hadith phenomena in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

This article examines the thoughts of Syarif Hatim Al-Auni regarding maqāsid as a parameter for the authenticity of hadith. In the context of hadith studies, the issue of authenticity and authentication is a central concern that affects the acceptance and application of hadith in religious practices. This research aims to explore how maqāsid al-shariah, which refers to the fundamental objectives of shariah, can be used to assess the quality and authenticity of hadith. Using a qualitative analysis methodology, this article dissects Al-Auni's views, showing that maqāsid is not only a tool for evaluation but also a foundation for understanding the social and historical context of hadith. Syarif Hatim Al-Auni offers a new approach by using the science of maqāsid as a measure of hadith authenticity, an innovation since maqāsid is typically applied to Islamic law. This study seeks to answer two main questions, first, how does Syarif Hatim Al-Auni use maqāsid to test the authenticity of hadith, and second, what is the contribution of Al-Auni's findings. The research found that Syarif Hatim Al-Auni proposed using maqāsid not only as an approach to understand hadith but also as a parameter to determine its authenticity. Al-Auni's significant contribution lies in the expansion of the use of maqāsid, which had previously been used only to understand hadith, into a tool for determining the authenticity of hadith, based on the application of early hadith scholars that he formulated into new principles in hadith text criticism. The findings suggest that understanding maqāsid can enhance the ability of scholars and Muslims to distinguish hadith relevant to the values of justice, public benefit, and morality. This article is expected to contribute to the scholarly discourse on hadith studies and open space for new thoughts in responding to the challenges of the contemporary world.

Abstract

This article discusses the dichotomy in the evaluation of hadiths regarding the tribulation (fitnah) of the Dajjal, focusing on the differing assessments between Tirmidzi’s classification of a hadith as hasan sahih and the critique presented by Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddin Albani. This approach aims to understand the differences in methodology and criteria used by these two scholars in hadith evaluation, as well as the implications for the authenticity and validity of the hadiths related to the Dajjal's tribulation. Through a comparative study, the article highlights the importance of contextual hadith evaluation in determining its status within the science of hadith and its implications for Islamic eschatology. The study concludes that Albani deemed the hadith dhaif because its content contradicts stronger narrations. In contrast, Tirmidzi’s classification of the hadith as hasan sahih suggests that such contradictions can be reconciled. This preference for reconciliation rather than prioritizing one narration over another aligns with the view of the majority of scholars who have commented on the hadith. The findings indicate that this difference in evaluation reflects diverse methodologies and emphases, underscoring the need for a critical and holistic approach in assessing hadiths related to the Dajjal’s tribulation

Abstract

This article explores the phenomenon of repeated Hajj in Indonesia through the guideline of Maqashid Sunnah, intending to provide a critical reinterpretation of this practice. As one of the fundamental pillars of Islam, Hajj has deep spiritual and social significance. However, the trend of repeated Hajj in Indonesian society has raised various controversies, including social, economic, and religious implications. By employing a Maqashid Sunnah approach, this article intends to uncover the underlying objectives of Sharia behind the Hajj rituals as revealed in Hadiths. Furthermore, it explores the implications of this phenomenon on public understanding of Hajj and its religious values. The results show that the primary purpose of prescribing Hajj in Hadith is to ensure the maintenance of the Holy Land every year and to perform Hajj for every Muslim who has not yet done so. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed Hajj only once during his lifetime, despite having the opportunity to perform it thrice in 8 AH, 9 AH, and 10 AH. For him, social welfare was prioritized over personal benefit, leading him to focus on disseminating Islamic teachings and providing sustenance to those in need, caring for orphans, and engaging in jihad for the sake of Allah. The findings of this analysis are expected to provide a broader understanding of the meaning of Hajj in Indonesian society and cultivate awareness of the importance of proper understanding of Maqashid Sunnah in religious practice.

Abstract

This research examines the role of hadith in shaping the ethics of using social media among Generation Z. Gen Z, who grew up in the digital era, is very familiar with technology and social media, but often lacks strong ethical guidelines in using these platforms. In this context, hadith as a source of Islamic moral teachings provide important guidance regarding ethical behavior, including interactions on social media. Hadiths such as authentic Muslim history no. 64 teaches the importance of guarding one's words and deeds, which is relevant to today's digital ethics. This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive-analytical approach to understand the challenges of digital ethics among Gen Z and how hadith can provide relevant guidance in facing these challenges. The research results show that hadith teachings can be applied in a modern context as a guide for the younger generation to use social media wisely, responsibly and ethically. Hadith not only teaches to avoid negative behavior such as slander and hate speech, but also encourages the spread of goodness in cyberspace. By applying hadith values, it is hoped that Gen Z can become more responsible social media users and contribute positively to society.

Abstract

This research originated from the widespread practice of the community boycotting a product suspected of supporting Israel's colonization of Palestine. The main focus of this research is the social dynamics and interpretations of hadiths regarding the boycott, allowing the topic to be examined in terms of how hadiths or religious teachings can influence the understanding and motivation behind the boycott action, or vice versa. Thus, it can stimulate or shape boycott practices as a response to social or economic issues, resisting against colonial forces. This study employs a qualitative method, specifically Ma'anil hadith. The findings reveal that this solidarity hadith can serve as a reference to create unity among individuals and groups, thereby triggering an impetus or motivation to support a common goal.

Abstract

The application of the organizing Hadith in Islamic educational management is axiomatic and interesting to be studied because currently there are many Islamic educational institutions. This study explains how Hadith practices are integrated in Islamic educational institutions, especially in Central Aceh. This study aims to find out the life of the organizing Hadith which is the basis for Islamic education management. This study uses a field study method to collect information about the practice of organizing Hadith in society, namely the living Hadith study approach. After research, it was discovered that of the 9 educational institutions in Central Aceh, all of them had implemented organizing hadiths which include: Haditsh of choosing trustworthy leader; Hadith of obeying the leader; Hadith of choosing pious subordinates; Hadith of responsibility; Hadith of selecting capable subordinates; and Hadith of coordination. However, there are also subordinates who occasionally lack discipline in implementing Hadith so that they must be given sanctions because the rules must still be enforced to achieve the goals of Islamic education management. The hope is that through the implementation of this organizing Hadith, Islamic educational institutions will increasingly become a forum for advancing the community both in terms of management of facilities and the quality of human resources.
