Abstract

Pollen is the male genitalia of plants. The pollen morphology can vary within a species and between species, so that it can be used as an identification tool. It also has contribution to other disciplines such as Paleobotany, Paleoecology, Palynology, Aeropalinologi, Medical and determination of  honey quality. This study aims to reveal the pollen morphology of some species of Solanum. The Solanum which was studied were Solanum melongena var. serpentinum (purple and white fruit), Solanum melongena var. esculentum (purple and green fruit), Solanum tuberosum, Solanum torvum and Solanum ferox. The design of research is a descriptive study. The method used was asetolisis with 1% safranin staining in 70% alcohol. The characters pollen morphology observed were: units, polarity, symmetry, size, shape, or form surface ornamentation, number and type of aperture. The results showed the unit of single pollen (monads), with isopolar polarity, radial symmetry and size medium. The length of polar axis (P) ranged from 20 to 32.5, while the length of the equatorial diameter (E) ranged from 20 to 37.7, so the form of Solanum pollen can be classified into classes; Oblate, Suboblate and Oblate spheroidal. Aperture found was 3-4 aperture with the aperture found pore located at the equatorial type. In conclusion, several species of Solanum pollen have similarity in terms of units, polarity, symmetry, size and difference in terms of form and quantity of aperture.Key words: pollen, solanum, identification

Abstract

Low-calorie watermelon flesh contains as much as 93.4% water, 0.5% protein, 5.3% carbohydrate, fat 0.1%, fiber 0.2%, ash 0.5%, Vitamin A, Vitamin B and vitamin C. Chemical content of watermelon, especially the carbohydrate content can be used as an ingredient to make nata de Citrullus. The nata formation is strongly influenced by the carbohydrate content, pH, nitrogen content in the substrate and stable environmental condition. The purpose of this study was to determine the best starter. This study was carried out from February to June 2011. The research design was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 (six) treatments, namely  coconut water starter (A), watermelon starter (B), pineapple skin starter (C), banana peels starter (D), bangkuang starter (E) and tomato starter (F). The parameters tested were the thickness of nata, wet weight and dry weight, firmness and organoleptic tests. Data were analyzed by using ANOVA and further test HSD at the level of 5% and 1%. The result of this study indicates that the use of a wide range of real starter do not affect the thickness. However there were significant difference at the level of 5% of the wet weight, and it was significantly different at the level of 1% of the dry weight. Finally, it does not affect significantly on organoleptic test (flavor, color, taste and texture).

Abstract

The research on the extraction of iron (III)  aims at finding the best condition of extraction of iron (III) using oksin (8-hidroksikuinolin) as the complement. It was done by setting the  oksin concentration, pH, and the appropriate solvent. The  extraction process was done in a separating funnel. The reaction occurs when the water phase containing ions of iron (III) contacted an organic phase containing oksin as a chelate ligand. The water phase was measured with atomic absorption Spectrophotometer.  The concentration of iron (III) in the organic phase extracted was obtained from the difference between the concentration of iron (III) with the initial concentration of iron (III) which was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. As the result of the research, it was found that Fe-Oksinat was extracted optimally at pH 3, the concentration of iron (III) concentration of 10 ppm and oksin 0.12 M, with a 40-minute standing time and agitation time 20 min. Fe-oksinat for benzene solvent extracted optimum pH 3, the concentration of iron (III) concentration of 10 ppm and 0.12 M. oksin with a 20-minute standing time and mixing time 10 minutes. From the comparative figures of the comparison distribution at the optimum conditions for the three solvents (chloroform, ethyl acetate and benzene), it was obtained that the best solvent for the extraction of iron (III) with oksin as a completing agent is chloroform. Key words : solvent extraction, organic solvents, oksin, Iron (III)

Abstract

The presence of insulin in the human body is very necessary. Insulin has an effect on the metabolism of the body. There are significant physiological changes in the body when insulin deficiency or excess. This paper to discusses about the relationship insulin with metabolism of the body through a literature review and mini research. Is the body condition if the excess or deficiency of insulin? The above questions will be answered through the review authors in this article. Weitz report (2007) about the experience of observation insulin shock therapy in patients with schizophrenia. Then, followed by reports of a mini research that have been conducted on insulin shock in fish. Based on the discussion of the results and some conclusions can be drawn (1) Glucose levels in plasma and liver is strongly influenced by the presence of insulin and glucagon, (2) lack or excess of insulin as a hormone and glucose as substrate will lead to abnormality in the body's physiological.Key words: insulin shock, metabolism

Abstract

Mostly, teaching materials merely focus on formulas and theories, yet there has not been found any teaching materials oriented to Qur'an. Due to that reason, it is significant to provide materials enabling students to learn independently, especially, those correlating the physics materials with Qur'an.  Therefore, this study aimed to produce students' worksheets of physics, known as LKPD, correlating Qur?an with Guided Inquiry to achieve the students? competencies, particularly, in the topic of equilibrium and rotational dynamics. This study employed the Research and Development design with the 4-D research model consisting of four stages, namely defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. This LKPD also contains six stages of Guided Inquiry, namely orientation, formulating problems, formulating hypotheses, collecting data, testing hypotheses, and formulating conclusions. Every stage of Guided Inquiry engages the Qur?an verses with the material. The findings showed the validity of LKPD was at 88% categorized as very valid. The questionnaires resulted 88% of teachers and 70.3% of students categorized as very practical and practical. The average post-test score for students? competence (82.45) is higher than the average pre-test score (49.64) and N-gain of 0.77 considered high and effective. In conclusion, the physics students' worksheet or LKPD which employed Guided Inquiry corresponding with Qur?an is considered valid, practical, and effective to promote students in learning physics.

Abstract

Teacher-centered learning in Physics subject produces passive students because teachers dominate learning while students tend to listen, take notes, and do assignments. This condition does not provide space for students to be actively and creatively involved during learning which in turn decreases students' motivation and learning outcomes This condition can be improved through inquiry approach. The research aimed to increase motivation and learning outcomes in Physics through inquiry-based learning. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) method in class XI IPA-1 SMAN 1 Batang Gasan in 2018/2019 Academic Year. This study consisted of 2 cycles in which each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation and reflection. Students? learning motivation data were collected using questionnaire sheets and their learning outcomes were collected through test. The results showed that inquiry-based learning increased student motivation from 68% in the first cycle to 100% in the second cycle and classical mastery of learning from 50% in cycle I to 96.4% in cycle II. It was concluded that inquiry-based learning approaches improve student motivation and learning outcomes in physics.
