Abstract

History learning in schools has not yet optimally implemented the historical thinking approach. Consequently, appropriate instructional modules are needed to support teachers in facilitating historical thinking–based learning. This study aims to develop a valid and effective historical thinking module and to examine its impact on teachers’ understanding of historical thinking concepts. The research employed a research and development (R&D) method based on a modified Borg and Gall development model. The development process included needs analysis, module design, expert validation, revision, and limited implementation. The results of the study indicate that the material expert validation yielded a score of 79.16%, categorized as “very valid,” while media expert validation achieved a score of 80%, also classified as “very valid.” The average expert validation score was 79.58%, confirming that the developed module meets high validity standards. Expert evaluations further revealed that the module is highly feasible for use by teachers, particularly in supporting their understanding of historical thinking concepts within the History Subject Teachers’ Forum (MGMP) of Balangan Regency. The effectiveness of the module was demonstrated through an increase in teachers’ understanding of historical thinking concepts after using the module. The average level of teachers’ understanding increased from 47 before implementation to 87 after implementation, reflecting an improvement of approximately 85.00%. This level of improvement falls into the “very good” category. In conclusion, the historical thinking module developed in this study is both valid and effective and can significantly enhance teachers’ understanding of historical thinking, thereby supporting the improvement of history teaching practices in schools.

Abstract

The kinship legal system is an important part of social life, regulating relationships between individuals in a family or relatives, either through the father's lineage (patrilineal), mother's lineage (matrilineal), or both (bilateral), and through marriage bonds. This system not only creates patterns of social relationships, but also forms new groups rooted in the culture of the community, while also playing a role in preserving and passing on cultural values to the next generation. The purpose of this study is to identify, analyze, and understand the kinship legal system in Indonesian society, especially related to the role of culture, family structure, and existing social dynamics. Specifically, this study also focuses on the kinship legal system in the Batak ethnic community, exploring the diversity of kinship patterns applied, and exploring its implications for social integration, cultural preservation, and the continuity of Batak ethnic traditions. This research method uses a qualitative approach. This research is in the form of a case study, which was chosen to examine a case with clear boundaries. The results of the study show that the dominance of the kinship system in a particular society can be explained through several complex factors. First, strong local traditions and cultures establish this system as an integral part of community identity. Second, the economic structure, especially in agrarian societies, creates the need for a strong kinship network for resource management and social support. Third, the social interests that arise from interdependence among family members facilitate solidarity and cooperation. Fourth, customary law remains relevant and serves as a conflict resolution mechanism that is more acceptable to society than formal law.

Abstract

Forest and land fires are a major environmental concern in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, with a burned area of 1,812.80 ha recorded in 2023. This study aims to model fire susceptibility levels using the Random Forest algorithm based on remote sensing data. The data utilized include Landsat 8 imagery from 2023 with extracted spectral indices such as NDVI, NBR, NDWI, MSI, and BAI, along with fire hotspot data from the Banjar Regency Disaster Management Agency. The model was trained using data from June to mid-September and validated with data from mid-September to November 2023. Results indi-cate that the northern and central areas of Banjar Regency exhibit the highest fire susceptibility. The susceptibility map was categorized into five zones based on fire probability. Accuracy assessment using a confusion matrix yielded an overall accuracy of 71.64% and a Kappa coefficient of 40.81%. These findings demonstrate that the Random Forest method is effective in iden-tifying fire-prone areas with high efficiency and minimal input data. This model provides a valuable tool for spatially targeted fire prevention and mitigation planning.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the teacher’s experience in using the digital media ClassroomScreen in teaching recount texts to eighth-grade junior high school students, as well as to identify its impact on students’ learning processes. The background of this research was based on the low motivation and engagement of students in understanding recount texts, along with the limited use of interactive learning media that support classroom management and active participation. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using a reflective study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, field notes, and visual documentation during the learning process. The data were analyzed using Miles’ interactive model and Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle. The findings show that the use of ClassroomScreen provides a positive experience for teachers in managing the class and delivering material visually and systematically, while also promoting reflection on teaching practices. For students, the media increases engagement, motivation, learning discipline, and ability to understand and write recount texts. Features such as the timer, work symbols, and random name picker are effective in creating a more orderly and enjoyable learning environment. However, some challenges were also encountered, including students’ gaps in digital literacy and limited technological infrastructure. This study recommends the use of simple yet functional digital media in learning, supported by training for both teachers and students. The findings are expected to be a reference for educators and policymakers in developing reflective and contextual technology-based learning strategies.
