The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants consisted of five students from various regions in Sumatra who were studying at UINSU and UMSU. The results of the study showed that the communication style of Medan people is loud, expressive, and direct triggers culture shock. To overcome this, students apply accommodative communication strategies, are active in campus social activities, build social support networks, and utilize social media as a means of adaptation. Environmental support and mental readiness play an important role in the adjustment process. These findings are relevant to the Communication Accommodation Theory and intercultural communication, and recommend the need for a cultural adaptation assistance program for migrant students in the campus environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze public perception of women's involvement in the government of Gunung Manaon Village, Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Village, through a gender perspective with a descriptive qualitative method. The results show that although quota policies open up formal access for women, their participation in decision-making is still hampered by patriarchal norms, gender stereotypes, and biased communication. Some women have begun to participate actively, especially those who have access to education, technology, and social organizations, but this involvement is still limited and not fully supported by the surrounding environment. This study recommends participatory communication strategies, leadership training based on Islamic values, and strengthening the role of the media and community leaders in shaping public opinion that supports gender equality. An integrated approach between affirmative policies and women's capacity building is expected to create a village political climate that is inclusive, fair, and responsive to the needs of all residents regardless of gender.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has opened up opportunities to improve the efficiency of agricultural services, including in Kampunganyar Village, Banyuwangi, which has been carried out manually, making it prone to delays and recording errors. To address these issues, the SiTANDES (Sistem Tani Desa) mobile application was developed using Java programming language, Firebase as the database, and XML for the interface with an Agile Scrum approach. System testing was conducted through blackbox and User Acceptance Test (UAT) involving 10 respondents. Test results showed a 100% success rate for application functions in the Black-Box test and a 92% user acceptance rate in the User Acceptance Test, indicating that all features functioned according to user needs. With the implementation of SiTANDES, the tool lending process has become faster, more efficient, and more transparent, supporting the transformation of village agricultural services toward a more modern and information technology-based system.

Abstract

This study examines oligarchic political discourse in Tempo.co’s Bocor Alus Politik podcast episode “Pertamina and Riza Chalid’s Political Network.” It investigates how political–economic power relations are represented in media narratives when discussing Indonesia’s energy governance, particularly regarding fuel imports, policy “conditioning,” and elite networks. The research employs a descriptive qualitative design and Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, focusing on the dimensions of text, social cognition, and social context. The findings show that the podcast constructs oligarchy as a mode of power operating beyond formal state institutions through interconnected political and business actors that mutually reinforce protection and access. Riza Chalid is framed not merely as a businessman but as an informal political actor perceived to influence national energy policy and the distribution of rents. Evaluative lexical choices such as “Gasoline Godfather,” “old modus,” and the metaphor “out of the tiger’s mouth into the crocodile’s jaws” function to sharpen criticism that the issue is not reducible to individual wrongdoing, but rooted in structural continuity and the reproduction of networks. These results align with Jeffrey A. Winters’s concept of oligarchy as income defense, in which political power is used to secure wealth accumulation and protection by a narrow elite. Practically, the podcast as a digital platform operates as a space of counter-discourse, expanding public understanding of the nexus between media, power, and energy politics.

Abstract

This study applies an M/M/s single-phase multi-channel queue simulation model (Poisson arrivals λ avg. 19 cust/hr, exponential service μ=6 cust/hr/barista, FIFO) via POM-QM for Windows to optimize Coffeeshop Presensia services in Medan (observation Nov 1-30, 2024, 3-9 PM). Baseline (s=4: 2 baristas + 2 cashiers) shows Lq=3, Wq=0.15 hr (9 min), Po=0.02 on busy days. Optimal scenario (3 baristas + 2 cashiers) reduces Wq to ~2 min (95% CI: 1.8-2.2 min), ρ =0.67. Recommendation: add 1 barista during peaks. This adjustment resulted in a significant reduction in the average customer waiting time, from 9 minutes to around 2 minutes, ensuring that the service provided meets the standard time expected by customers. This study provides valuable insights into improving service efficiency through more strategic resource allocation at Coffeeshop Presensia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) and digital marketing communications on insurance purchase intentions, using a case study of followers of PT Equity Life Indonesia's Instagram account. The research was conducted using a survey method and purposive sampling technique, with 100 respondents who were followers of PT Equity Life Indonesia's Instagram account. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to test the relationships between the variables. The results of the study confirm that both e-WOM and digital marketing communications have a significant impact on insurance purchase intentions. These findings suggest that effective management of e-WOM and the application of appropriate digital marketing strategies can encourage insurance purchase intentions among PT Equity Life Indonesia's Instagram followers. Consequently, PT Equity Life Indonesia has been successful in consistently stimulating its followers through social media, leading to an increased intention to purchase insurance. This study provides valuable insights for insurance marketers in designing more effective strategies in the digital era.
