Abstract

Introduction to The Problem: Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, was named the most generous country globally by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) for the seventh consecutive year based on the Word Giving Index 2024. The country has several Islamic public finance instruments, including zakat, infaq, sadaqah and waqf. In 2021, the Directorate of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment noted that the potential of national cash waqf reached 180 trillion rupiah. However, this huge potential has not been optimally managed, while the welfare of the Muslim community and access to financing for MSMEs remain a challenge.Purpose/Objective Study: This research aims to identify the potential of Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) for MSMEs empowerment.Design/Methodology/Approach: This research used a qualitative approach to provide a detailed description in the discussion section, making it easier for readers to understand. The data used is secondary data obtained from previous research results or journals that have been published via the internet, and statistical data sourced from OJK.Findings: This study finds that CWLS has a great opportunity in Indonesia. The legality of cash waqf supports this stated in the law as well as cooperation between the Indonesian Waqf Board, Islamic financial institutions, Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Good management can maximize the potential of CWLS for MSME empowerment. Recommendations for further research include the development of a CWLS-based MSME empowerment model that utilizes big data and artificial intelligence, enabling in-depth analysis to understand the specific needs of MSMEs and optimize fund allocation.Research Type: Research Article

Abstract

Introduction to The Problem: Islamic cooperatives have an important role in the national economy, especially for business actors in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector. However, currently the function and role of this financial institution cannot run optimally because it is faced with problems originating from internal and external Islamic cooperatives. This is allegedly contrary to the theory of truth in Islamic philosophy.Purpose/Objective Study: This research aims to examine and analyse the role and function of Islamic cooperatives in terms of the theory of truth in Islamic philosophy.Design/Methodology/Approach: This research is a type of qualitative research in the form of library research which is qualitative in nature.Findings: Islamic cooperatives have a strategic role in supporting the development of MSMEs, with approaches that are aligned with theories of truth, such as correspondence theory that emphasises conformity with reality, coherence theory that prioritises consistency in value systems, pragmatism theory that focuses on practical benefits, and performative theory that assesses the effectiveness of actions in achieving goals. The low level of Islamic financial literacy among MSME players, which often hinders their understanding of the benefits of Islamic financing. In addition, intense business competition in the market is also a significant obstacle that requires a special strategy. By overcoming these obstacles, Islamic cooperatives can further strengthen their function as a key pillar in supporting the sustainable growth of MSMEs.Paper Type: Research Article

Abstract

AbstractIntroduction to The Problem: Empowerment of the community economy based on Islamic values is a strategic issue in social development in Indonesia, especially amidst increasing economic inequality and the challenges of globalization. The Sidogiri Zakat Institution (LAZ), affiliated with Islamic boarding schools, plays an important role in addressing this issue through a structured Islamic philanthropic approach.Purpose/Objective Study: This study aims to analyze the strategy of the Sidogiri Zakat Institution (LAZ) in implementing Islamic values in the community economic empowerment program and its impact on social transformation.Design/Methodology/Approach: Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation.Findings: The results of the study indicate that LAZ Sidogiri implements two forms of fund distribution, namely consumptive and productive, with the support of programs such as caring for education, health, the environment, the economy, and needs-based social programs. Although various programs have been implemented in a structured manner, their implementation still faces a number of challenges, including limited professional human resources, a weak monitoring system, and negative perceptions from the community. The positive impact of the LAZ Sidogiri economic empowerment program is seen in increasing community access to capital assistance and business training, although the scope is still limited. This study concludes that strengthening socialization strategies, improving the quality of human resources, and institutional transparency are essential in order to expand the impact of the program and ensure the sustainability of social transformation based on Islamic values.Paper Type: Research Article
