Abstract

This research aimed at describing the effect of 3CM learning model toward student mathematical problem-solving ability. Quasi-experimental method was used in this research with non-equivalent posttest-only control group design. This research was conducted at State Junior High School 2 Siak, the eighth-grade students of class 2 were the experimental group, and the students of class 3 were the control group. The technique of analyzing data was t-test. The research findings showed the mean difference in t-test that the experimental group was better than the control group. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was an effect on mathematical problem-solving ability between students taught by using 3CM learning model and those who were taught by using conventional learning. 3CM learning model had a positive impact on mathematical problem-solving ability. 3CM learning model could be used as an alternative to increase student mathematical problem-solving ability on One Variable Linear Equations and Inequalities material.

Abstract

Elementary school students' numeracy skills are still low, influenced by the abstract nature of mathematics and the use of less interesting learning media. This study aims to design and develop a mathematics learning media called ROMAKU (Roda Massa dan Quantitas), and evaluate its level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students' numeracy skills. The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a 4D model, including the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages; but limited to the develop stage. Participants were fifth-grade elementary school students. Data were obtained through validation sheets, questionnaires, observations, and numeracy tests (pre-test and post-test). The results showed that ROMAKU media had a validity score of 89.75% (very valid), practicality of 90% (very practical), and effectiveness with 80% of students achieving learning mastery. Thus, ROMAKU media is feasible and effective for improving students' numeracy skills, especially in the concept of mass and quantity.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is an essential component in solving mathematical problems, particularly in mathematical statistics topics such as probability. This study aims to analyze students' critical thinking abilities in solving probability problems in terms of extrovert and introvert personality types. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. The research subjects consisted of two students with extrovert personality types and two students with introvert personality types, selected through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test. The research instruments included the MBTI personality test, a written test on probability, an interview guide, and an observation sheet. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing in an interactive manner. The results of the study indicate that extroverted students tend to be able to identify basic information from the problem but show weaknesses in evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. On the other hand, introverted students demonstrate a more systematic, reflective, and logical thinking pattern, although they sometimes lack verbal explanations for their chosen strategies. These findings suggest that personality type influences the quality of students' critical thinking abilities in solving probability problems. Therefore, personality-based learning strategies need to be developed to optimize students' critical thinking skills in mathematical statistics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to design an interactive leraning media based on the Wordwall game integrated with a collaborative approach in junior high school mathematics learning on algebra problems, particulary in substitution, as well as the domaninance of conventional leraning methods that provide limited interaction and collaboration opportunities. The research method used is Research Anda Development (R&D) with the 4D development model, consisting of the Define, Develop, and Disseminate stages. This article focuses on the first two stages, namely Define and Design. The Define stage includes the analysis of teacher and student needs as well as the characteristics of the leraning material, while the Design stage involves the creation of media layout, qustion formats, and game mechanisms using the “Open the Box” feature on Wordwall. The design result in a media product called “Kelas Aljabar”, containing 10-15 multiple-choice questions categorized into conceptual understanding, algebraic operations, and contextual applications. The game is designed for probelm-solving. This design is expected to serve as the basis for furter development and contribute to the creation of engaging, collaborative, and effective mathematics leraning media.

Abstract

This study aims to examine mathematics education research on mathematical problem-solving skills published in SINTA-indexed mathematics education journals from 2022 to 2023. Methodologically, this study uses a qualitative content analysis approach. The analysis was conducted on several main aspects that are the focus of the study. First, based on the research approach, it shows a tendency towards a descriptive qualitative approach. The dominance of the descriptive qualitative approach in this study indicates a strong tendency in mathematics education studies that focus on revealing and measuring problem-solving indicators in depth and context. Second, based on the distribution of research subjects in this study, it shows an uneven trend, where Junior High School students are the most dominant group studied compared to other levels of education. This phenomenon reflects the crucial existence of research that focuses on the phase of cognitive development of students at the SMP level, which theoretically represents a transitional stage from concrete to abstract thinking. Third, based on the distribution of topics, it provides an illustration that studies on mathematical problem-solving skills have been conducted in various material contexts, but there are still opportunities to expand the scope of research, especially on materials that have not been widely explored.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role and benefits of calculus in mathematics education for university students through a literature review approach. The method used is qualitative research with a literature study of relevant scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025. The results show that calculus plays an important role as a foundation for understanding advanced mathematical concepts and in developing students’ critical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. However, calculus learning still faces several challenges, such as difficulties in understanding abstract concepts, weak basic mathematical skills, and the dominance of procedural approaches. In addition, psychological factors such as motivation and self-efficacy, as well as differences in learning styles, also influence student learning success. Therefore, innovative learning strategies, the use of instructional media, and the integration of digital technology are needed. Thus, effective calculus learning is expected to improve students’ understanding and prepare them to become competent individuals in academic and professional fields.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of deep learning implementation in STEM-based mathematics learning and identify challenges faced in its implementation. Referring to various recent studies, the deep learning approach has been proven to significantly improve conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, mathematical problem-solving skills, and student motivation and engagement. The integration of deep learning with STEM enables contextual, collaborative, and real-world problem-oriented learning, which aligns with the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the demands of 21st-century competencies. The method used in this study is a systematic literature review of several leading national and international journals published between 2019 and 2025. The analysis instruments include thematic identification of empirical findings, learning strategies, and supporting and inhibiting factors for implementation. The synthesis results show that despite its effectiveness, the implementation of deep learning in STEM-based mathematics learning faces several challenges, including limited technological infrastructure, low teacher readiness and digital literacy, dual cognitive load on students, time constraints in the curriculum, and ethical issues related to data privacy when involving artificial intelligence (AI). Thus, an integrative strategy is needed that includes teacher training, provision of supporting resources, and policies that support technology-based adaptive learning in an ethical and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low conceptual understanding of mathematics, as indicated by the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), as well as mathematics instruction that remains abstract and lacks context. Therefore, the development of instructional materials capable of linking mathematical concepts to real-world situations requires innovation. The objective of this study is to create STEM-based instructional materials that meet valid, practical, and effective standards by using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach for the topic of curved-edged three-dimensional shapes in Grade 10 MIPA at SMA in Bone. This study is a research and development (R&D) project using the ADDIE model, which includes the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research subjects consisted of subject matter experts, design experts, teachers, and 10th-grade students. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand-alone. Data collection techniques included interviews, questionnaires, and achievement tests. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques to assess the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed instructional materials. This study is expected to produce STEM-based instructional materials that can enhance students’ understanding of geometric concepts through contextual and meaningful learning that utilizes local culture as a learning resource. Therefore, the developed instructional materials can serve as an innovation.

Abstract

Mathematics learning should not only transfer knowledge but also facilitate students in building new concepts relevant to culture and everyday experiences. Ethnomathematics as a learning approach links mathematics with cultural elements, thus facilitating contextual and meaningful conceptual understanding. This research aims to investigate non-geometric mathematical practices embedded within Scout pioneering activities at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Ikhlas Ambon, employing a qualitative ethnographic methodology. Data were gathered through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with mentors, trainers, and students. The study found that pioneering practices incorporate mathematical elements such as measurement, estimation, knotting algorithms, and structural proportions, all of which are enriched with cultural significance. These activities contribute not only to the development of mathematical understanding but also foster essential character values, including collaboration, accountability, and creativity. The findings support the use of pioneering ethnomathematics as supporting material for contextual mathematics learning in accordance with the direction of the Independent Curriculum policy. It is recommended to develop learning tools based on Scout ethnomathematics to increase students' interest and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The problems experienced by junior high school students in solving story problems involving integer addition using number lines include difficulty understanding the meaning of negative signs, transforming problem information into mathematical models, performing calculations correctly, and writing complete final answers in contextThis study aims to analyze the errors made by seventh-grade students at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta Kupang in solving story problems on integer addition using number lines based on Newman's error analysis stages. This study is qualitative in nature and uses a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of three seventh-grade students from class VII B who were selected using purposive sampling based on their mathematical ability in solving story problems. The research instruments were story problem tests, interview guidelines, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was obtained through triangulation techniques. The results showed that subjects with high ability (SKT) were able to read, understand, transform, and calculate correctly using number lines, but still made mistakes in the encoding stage because they did not write down the answer units. Subjects with moderate ability (SKS) made mistakes in reading negative symbols, misunderstood the meaning of the questions, incorrectly transformed information, and made mistakes in the calculation process, resulting in incorrect answers. Subjects with low ability (SKR) made the most errors, ranging from reading, understanding, transformation, processing, to writing the final answer, because they wrote down the results directly without following the correct procedure.
