Abstract

The low level of students’ conceptual understanding in plane geometry is caused by learning practices that are still oriented toward memorizing formulas, thus requiring innovative learning media that can support meaningful understanding. This study aims to analyze the needs and design a contextual-based interactive e-book for plane geometry material for eighth-grade students in junior high school. This research employs a conceptual design approach using the Research and Development (R&D) method, limited to the stages of needs analysis and product design. Data were obtained through a literature review related to digital learning media, interactive e-books, and contextual approaches, and were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques. The results indicate that the interactive e-book is designed with a systematic structure, including concept maps, gradual material presentation, and the integration of interactive features such as animations, videos, and exercises. The contextual approach embedded in the e-book enables students to understand mathematical concepts through their connection to real-life situations. Therefore, the contextual-based interactive e-book contributes as a potential learning medium to improve students’ conceptual understanding and to support more active, interactive, and independent learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the gap between the design of the Independent Curriculum and its implementation in mathematics learning. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this study examined 16 articles published between 2021 and 2025 that met the inclusion criteria regarding obstacles and solutions in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning. The review results indicate that the greatest obstacles occur at the planning stage, including teachers' poor understanding of the Learning Objectives Flow (ATP), the development of teaching modules, and the role of teachers as facilitators. At the implementation stage, challenges arise in implementing differentiated learning, the use of technology-based media, and limited infrastructure. Meanwhile, at the evaluation stage, teachers still experience difficulties in implementing authentic, diagnostic, and formative assessments that meet the curriculum's demands. This study contributes by comprehensively mapping obstacles and offering solutions based on scientific findings, such as strengthening teacher competencies, optimizing learning communities, and providing supporting facilities. These findings emphasize the importance of a stronger educational ecosystem so that the Independent Curriculum can optimally achieve its goal of developing mathematics competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of students' mathematics anxiety and analyze its impact on the ability to understand algebra concepts at SMP Negeri 11 Bengkulu Tengah. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with 25 seventh-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year as research subjects. Research instruments included a mathematics anxiety questionnaire, algebra concept comprehension test, and semi-structured interviews. (1) The results showed that the majority of students (76%) experienced mathematics anxiety at moderate to high levels, with 40% of students in the high anxiety category, 36% in the moderate category, and 24% in the low category. (2) Students' ability to understand algebra concepts was also still low, with 48% of students in the poor and fair categories. Per-indicator analysis showed that students had the best mastery in restating concepts (82%), but were very weak in applying concepts to problem-solving (31.4%). (3) There was a consistent negative relationship between the level of mathematics anxiety and the ability to understand algebra concepts, where the higher the students' mathematics anxiety, the lower their ability to understand algebra concepts. Interview results with three research subjects showed that mathematics anxiety disrupted students' concentration, working memory, and self-confidence in doing mathematics, thus impacting the low achievement of algebra concept comprehension

Abstract

This study seeks to enhance the computational abilities of students at UPTD SMP Negeri 6 Kupang Tengah via the use of the quick calculation technique. The students' preliminary numeracy abilities remain deficient, as shown by the pre-test results, which show scores between 40 and 70, with a class average of 58%. Students struggle with fundamental arithmetic operations and the resolution of contextual difficulties. This study used a qualitative descriptive methodology, with 10 students as participants. The intervention was conducted using microlearning activities, quick calculation exercises, numerical games, and individualized tuition over a period of roughly two months. The post-test findings indicated a substantial improvement, with student scores ranging from 76 to 91 and the class average rising to 84.6%. All pupils attained mastery of the learning goals. This discovery indicates that the quick calculation approach enhances pupils' comprehension of numerical patterns, precision, and calculation speed. This approach has shown applicability in schools with constrained resources. The quick calculation approach serves as an alternate learning strategy both straightforward and efficacious for enhancing pupils' calculating abilities.

Abstract

Calculus is a fundamental subject that plays an important role in various scientific disciplines, yet it is often perceived as difficult by university students. This study aims to examine students’ perceptions of the difficulty of calculus, identify the contributing factors, and explore effective learning strategies to address these challenges. The research employs a library research method by analyzing relevant scientific literature. The results indicate that calculus is still considered difficult by most students due to internal factors such as low prior knowledge, weak conceptual understanding, low motivation, and negative attitudes, as well as external factors including the abstract nature of the material and less varied teaching strategies. Students’ difficulties are reflected in errors in understanding concepts, recalling formulas, and performing calculations. To overcome these issues, student-centered learning strategies are required, including strengthening basic concepts, intensive practice, the use of interactive media, project-based learning, and group discussions. With appropriate strategies and a supportive learning environment, negative perceptions of calculus can be reduced, leading to improved student understanding

Abstract

This study aims to examine the basic concept of function limits in calculus and analyze their vital role as the main foundation in learning calculus. The research method employed is a literature review, analyzing various sources such as textbooks and scientific journal articles related to limit concepts, student misconceptions, and relevant pedagogical strategies. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively and descriptively to synthesize the relationship between the concept of limits, derivatives, and integrals. The results indicate that the limit is a fundamental concept that explains functional behavior and serves as the formal basis for defining derivatives as rates of change and integrals as area accumulation (Riemann sums). The study concludes that a strong conceptual understanding of limits is essential to avoid the dominance of mechanistic procedures and to help students master advanced calculus concepts systematically. It is suggested that calculus instruction should emphasize visual representation and mathematical interpretation, although this study is limited to a literature approach without empirical field data.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the differences in high school mathematics curricula across various countries, which influence teaching approaches and student competencies. Indonesia and Finland have distinct characteristics in their mathematics curricula, particularly in terms of learning objectives, content organization, and the teaching strategies employed. This study aims to analyze the high school mathematics curricula in Indonesia and Finland, specifically focusing on the teaching approaches used and their impact on student competencies. The research method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), involving the examination of various journals, scientific articles, and relevant academic sources regarding mathematics curricula in both countries. The results indicate that the mathematics curriculum in Finland places greater emphasis on conceptual understanding, contextual learning, and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Meanwhile, the mathematics curriculum in Indonesia tends to be oriented toward mastery of subject matter, achievement of curriculum targets, and academic evaluation. These differing approaches impact student competencies, particularly in higher-order thinking skills, creativity, and mathematical problem-solving. This study is expected to serve as a reference in the development of mathematics curricula in Indonesia to make them more adaptive, effective, and oriented toward the development of student competencies.
