Abstract

The objective of this case study was to evaluate good lighting levels in laying hens. The data were collected for three months at UD. Mahakarya Farm Banyuwangi. A total of 4.400 heads of layer chicken were used in this study. The lighting intensityused were 15 lux in cage A and 10 lux in cage B. The average of egg production were75.91% and 73.57% for cage A (15 lux) and cage B (10 lux), respectively. The average of egg weight were 59.37 g and 59.23 gfor cage A (15 lux) and cage B (10 lux), respectively. The results of this study presented that layer chicken aged 25 weeks produced better production efficiency values by 10 lux. At the end of production period(38 weeks) increased production efficiency by 15 lux.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine how much income and business feasibility of duck laying farmers in Jember. The method used was a survey with 36 respondents duck laying farmers. The results of business feasibility analysis were B/C of 1.87, BEP (price) Rp983.27, BEP (production) 9,726.19 eggs, and ROI 55.70%. The laying duck business in several districts of Jember had incomes Rp656,408.00 (scale less than 100 ducks), Rp2,346,371.00 (scale 100 to 500 ducks), and Rp28,597,866.00 (scale more than 500 ducks).

Abstract

Whey is a liquid produced from the separation of curd that its utilization is still very limited, so it can cause environmental pollution. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of starter concentration on alcohol, pH, and total titrated acids in whey kefir. Pasteurized whey was added starter with concentration of 5, 7, and 9% (w/v) then incubated at 20°C for 24 hours. The research method used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment used was cow milk added 5% starter as control (T0), whey added starter 5% (T1), whey added starter 7% (T2), and whey added starter 9% (T3). The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the higher starter concentration, the higher the alcohol content and tend to increase the total value of titrated acids (TTA).

Abstract

The making of Ginger Flavored Milk Candy was done because the Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Batu District needs products by utilizing the abundant potency of milk and ginger plants. The population of dairy cows in Batu District in 2017 was 4,475, have milk production of 385,710 liters / year. The production of ginger was 30-40 tons per year in an area of 3-4 hectares. The purpose of this study was to find out the results of making Ginger Flavored Milk Candy. The research method used was Kaji Widya. The ginger flavored milk candy that was compared was milk candy with  ginger  powder  and  crushed ginger.  The  analytical  tool  used  was  Organoleptic  Test with the  measured aspects including color, taste, aroma, and texture. The results of organoleptic tests showed that milk candy that uses ginger which was crushed was morepreferred by panelists. If KWT wants to make ginger milk candy as a product,then it is recommended to use crushed ginger.

Abstract

This research aimed to diagnosed pregnancy on mares using a test mare (MTP) kit. This study using 10 mares were used to confirm their pregnancy status using a rectal exploration technique (gold standard) using seven pregnant mares (K1) and three non-pregnant mares (K2). Serums from both groups were tested using a MTP kit. The research data were tested descriptive. The results showed that seven mares that were positively pregnant and three negative mares unpregnant after being tested using the MTP kit and rectal exploration. The conclusion that the MTP kit can be used to diagnose pregnancy in mares of 60 to 100 pregnancy days which is 100% accuracy sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the quality of organoleptic and pH value of fermented coffee peel using Trichoderma sp. at different levels. The treatment of coffee peel fermented using Trichoderma sp. consisted of P0 (without Trichoderma sp.), P1 (7.5 g), P2 (15.0 g), and P3 (22.5 g). Each treatment consisted of 4 replications. The parameters observed included: organoleptic quality (color, aroma, and texture) and pH value. The organoleptic test using the scoring method by 12 panelists. The result was analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA). A comparison among different treatments was performed by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Fermentation of coffee peel waste with Trichoderma sp. produces average light brown color, sour aroma, and softer texture with an increasing percentage of Trichoderma sp. The pH value of coffee peel fermentation with Trichoderma sp. ranged around 6.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the effect of fermented rough rice bran on thin tailed sheep on sheep production performance which included feed consumption of dry ingredients feed, weight gain, and feed conversion. This study consisted of two treatments namely, (P0) rough rice brain as a control and fermented rough rice bran  (P1). The method used in this research was T-test. The results showed that the rough bran fermentation was not significantly different (P>0.05) in dry matter consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion. The highest average gain weight was on P1 (142.58 grams/head/day).

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the cost of management, day old chick cost, production, selling price to profit level, R / C ratio and Return on Investmen (ROI) ayam kampung super in Jember. The research method used was survey with 18 respondents in Jember. The data result were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis and the following equations were Y = -1.90 – 0.35X1 – 1.22X2 + 0.23X3 + 2.26X4 + 0.11X5. This equation means every level of profit level by X1 (management cost) equal to -0.35, X2 (feed cost) equal to -1.22, X3 (seed cost) equal to 0.23, X4 (chicken production) equal to 2.26, X5 (chicken selling price) of 0.11. R / C ratio was 1.18, and ROI was 16%. The result of research showed that the most dominant factor influences to the profit level were  feed cost, management cost and production. Profitability of this research 98% have been considered while factors outside this study 2%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of frozen storage time for Bali Bull in artificial insemination station in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan on the quality of motility, viability, velocity, abnormality, plasma membrane integrity (MIn), acrosome integrity (AIn), and DNA damage of spermatozoa. The study design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments (storage time) and 5 replications. Frozen semen of Bali Bull used in 2009 (10 years of storage), 2011 (7 years of storage), 2013 (5 years of storage), 2015 (3 years of storage), and 2017 (1 year of storage). The storage time of frozen semen stored for one to ten years in liquid nitrogen at the artificial insemination station in Kota Samarinda, East Kalimantan was still suitable for use in artificial insemination based on motility quality (44.99±2.40%), viability (55.33±2,60%), velocity (0.050±0.002 mm/sec), abnormality (12.87±1.09%), plasma membrane integrity (58.83 ± 1.86%), acrosome integrity (75.48 ± 1 , 61%), and DNA damage of spermatozoa (1.60 ± 0.21%).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of substitution of corn with local ingredients on the quality of broiler meat using meta-analysis technique. This study used meta-analysis technique to integrate 55 data from 9 journals that contain information about replacing corn with local feedstuffs. The meta-analysis technique begins with collecting data from several scientific publications that contain tannin and saponin levels. Furthermore, the data was tabulated in the form of database with the help of microsoft excel, in this tabulation process the units of each data are equalized, after that the data was tabulated and analyzed using comprehensive meta-analysis version 3. The effect of corn replacement on the quality of broiler meat was not significant, this can be seen on the content of the percentage of carcasses, carcass weights, and cholesterol of meat was not different. The results show that the distance between the given model and the actual model indicates that there was decrease in the amount of cholesterol in meat with the replacement of corn in feed ingredients (0.05<P<0.1). The conclusion from the results of this meta-analysis was that the replacement of corn does not improve the quality of the broiler carcass.
