Abstract

The aim of this research was to understand the effect of educational level of gender types on pig farming production, a special case in Manokwari West Papua-Indonesia. The field study was done in Manokwari regency involved six districts. The respondents of 49 farmers chosen guided by local extensions selected from 15 villages. The participatory situation analysis employed to approach pig farmers by using questionnaire. A General Linear Model analysis of variances was used. All data were entered in Excel and analyzed using SPPS version 10.0. The conclusion that interaction between education and gender occur on household member and income earn. The female with adequate education will provide better income than the male. Understanding interaction effect of education level and gender will enable farmers to improve their pig productivities on scales and time.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of 15 days refrigeration storage on lactose content, reducing sugars, and the pH value of yoghurt by addition of rice bran. The experimental design used a completely randomized design (CRD) for 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments consisted of T0 (without storage), T1 (5 storage days), T2 (10 storage days), and T3 (15 storage days). The results showed that lactose content, reducing sugar, and pH value of yoghurt were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA). If there were significant differences, then further tested by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. Yoghurt by addition of rice bran stored for 15 days in the refrigerator could reduce lactose content and pH values and increased the level of reducing sugar, so that be able to maintain the quality and freshness of yoghurt.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the formulation of the cheapest alternative dairy rations and analyze the income and cost-efficiency of Bestcow Farm Jember. This research was conducted at Bestcow Farm Jember. The research location was chosen using purposive sampling with the consideration that Bestcow Farm has a fairly large population of dairy cattle, 50 heads. The research parameters taken were alternative ration formulations, income analysis, and cost-efficiency. This research used a descriptive method based on the results of data collection obtained from direct interviews with company employees and Bestcow Farm recording. The alternative ration formulation 2 was an alternative formulation ration with the cheapest price. This alternative ration formulation was feasible to be applied to Bestcow Farm Jember to get higher income.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the phylogenetic relationship of Haematopinus sp. which became parasites in several types of cattle, namely Simmental, Limousin, PO (Peranakan Ongole), and FH (Friesian Holstein) from Jember Regency and Simmental and PO cattle from Karanganyar Regency. The method used was to isolate DNA from 6 samples of Haematopinus sp. and amplified using 18S rRNA universal primers with 18S (5'-TCATTACGAGCTCTGCAAT-3) reverse primers and 18S (5'-TTCAAAGTAAACGTGTCGGC-3) sequential PCR sequencing. Sequencing results were analyzed using MEGA 6 software for phylogenetic tree construction using the Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Parsimony Methods. The results showed that the sample Haematopinus sp. originating from Simmental, Limousin, and PO cattle from Jember, and Simmental and PO from Karanganyar were included in one cluster by Haematopinus quadripertusus. Haematopinus sp. sample from Jember FH cattle had a considerable genetic distance from Haematopinus quadripertusus which was possible because the sequence that could be analyzed was only 236 nt.

Abstract

This study aimed to measure the incidence rate of brucellosis in dairy cattle at Batu City based onserological tests (seroprevalence) and to determine the relationship between the incidence ofbrucellosis and reproductive disorders. Cross-sectional epidemiological research was conducted todetermine the prevalence of brucellosis in dairy cows. Serum samples were obtained from 130dairy cows over 6 months of age, reproductive disorders data using a questionnaire on 21 farmers.Serological testing used the Rose Bengal Test (RBT) and continued with the Complement FixationTest (CFT). The data analysis used Pearson's Chi-Square correlation statistical test. Theseroprevalence of brucellosis at Batu City was 0.7%. The prevalence of reproductive disorders indairy cows was 29.2% consisted of 8.5% abortion and 20.8% repeated mating. There was acorrelation between brucellosis and the incidence of abortion (2 = 10.90; P<0.05) and a correlation between the incidence of abortion and the age more than 3 years (2 = 5.35; P<0.05). The conclusion of this study showed that the prevalence of brucellosis at Batu city was low (<2%).The results of this study could be used as the basis for implementing a vaccination program anderadicating brucellosis at East Java

Abstract

The natural disasters of the earthquake, liquefaction, and tsunami that occurred on September 28,2018 in Palu, Sigi, and Donggala have caused damage and even loss of residence and property ofthe people in the region. Agricultural land which was a source of livelihood could not be reused.During the recovery phase in the aftermath of natural disasters, the government andhumanitarian agencies could rebuild facilities and infrastructure including the economy ofdisaster victims. Central Sulawesi Assessment Institute for Agricultural Technology (AIAT)participated in the socio-economic recovery of natural disaster victims in Sigi Regency through thedevelopment of superior BALITBANGTAN (KUB) chicken based on native households in temporaryshelters in Jono Oge Village, Sigi Regency. The purpose of this study was to determine thecontribution and motivation of Sigi disaster victims in raising KUB chickens based on households.The contribution of raising KUB chicken was calculated from the percentage of KUB chicken tototal household income while motivation was measured by the scoring method using a Likert scale.Based on the results of the assessment, it was concluded that the income of victims of naturaldisasters at the Jono Oge Village in Sigi Regency had contribution contribution of raising KUBchickens based on households was 8.08% categorized at <Rp1,500,000.00 and 4.21% categorize atRp1,500,000.00 - Rp2,500,000.00. The motivation of natural disaster victims for raising KUBchickens was on the ease of sales and maintenance.

Abstract

The study was conducted to analyze the phytochemicals of basil leaves (Ocimum x citriodorum L.)and to evaluate the effect of basil leaves juice as an additive on nutrient digestibility of broilerchicken diet. This study used 20 male broilers (35 days old). The research parameters werephytochemical, proximate, and digestibility analysis. The data of basil leaves phytochemical andproximate analysis were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The digestibility were analyzed usinga Completely Randomized Design (CRD) by 4 treatments and 5 replications. The research wasconducted for 10 days consisting of 7 days for maintenance period and 3 days for total collectionperiod. The digestibility treatments consisted of 0 mL, 10 mL, 20 mL, and 30 mL basil leaves juice/Ldrinking water. The results showed that giving basil leaves juice had a good effect on nutrientdigestibility of broiler chickens and could be used up to 20 mL/L in drinking water.

Abstract

Mineral absorption in ruminants have not been maximal. This would be seen from the various problems that occur in ruminants, one of which was caused by mineral deficiency, especially the mineral Selenium (Se). Therefore, it was necessary to have applied technology to increase the absorption of Se minerals, one of which was used by bionanomineral technology. The purpose of this study was to determine the production of bionanomineral Se from various types of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) strains. The method used consisted of preparing tools and materials, breeding lactic acid bacteria, making Bionanomineral Se, and observed the production of Bionanomineral Se. The research treatment consisted of 2 stages, namely the first stage consisting of 4 treatments of different LAB strains: TSD 10, SPCE, DR162, and IA2, stage 2 each LAB strains were given treatment doses of 25 ppm and 50 ppm. The parameters observed included Stage 1: Bionanomineral production produced by intracellular and extracellular bacteria, stage 2: Optical Density (OD) and pH. The research design used a quantitative descriptive. The results showed that extracellular bionanomineral production was more than intracellular, the addition of 25 to 50 ppm Se showed that the OD of the four bacterial strains survived, and the pH results varied from each bacterial strain but were still within the normal range. The conclusion of this research was the production of bionanomineral Se as much as 25 ppm and 50 ppm in various types of different LAB strains, would be used as a potential source of organic Se minerals for ruminants.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of energy levels in feed on the quality ofspermatozoa. The materials used in this study were 80 weeks old male native chickens, rations, 3%sodium chloride, eosin, and distilled water. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD)consistied of 4 treatments and each treatment was repeated 4 times. Each repeatation was a malenative chicken. Collection of semen used the massage method on the abdominal area. The results ofthe study showed that the energy level in the rations increased (P<0.01) the mass motion anddecreased the motility of spermatozoa. The mean of mass motion scores obtained ranged 1.50% to3.00%, and the motility ranged 68.75% to 80.0%. The energy level in the rations increased(P<0.05) on the concentration and the number of live spermatozoa. The mean of concentrationobtained ranged 2.75x109 cells/ml to 3.75x109 cells/ml and the number of live spermatozoa ranged from 89.50% to 92.50%. Energy level in rations had no significant effect (P>0.05) on spermatozoaabnormality. The mean percentage of abnormal spermatozoa obtained ranged 2.27% to 2.38%.Based on this result, it can be concluded that the energy level in the rations could improve thequality of spermatozoa

Abstract

Ayam Kampung Unggul Sinjai (AKUSI) is a type of native chicken that is slaugthered when culled,has tough and easily rancid. The marination process using pineapple peel powder is expected toreduce meat rancidity. The purpose of this study was to carry out a marination process usingpineapple peel powder at different times and its effect on meat rancidity. This study used aCompletely Randomized Design (CRD) factorial pattern with 2 factors, namely the marinationprocess using pineapple peel powder and different times. The variables tested in this study werethe pH and TBA value. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance and further testedthe Least Significant Difference (LSD). The results showed that culled AKUSI rancidity could bereduced by marination process using pineapple peel powder. The provision of pineapple peelpowder at 15% with 90 minutes marination time was the best marination to reduce the meatrancidity.
