Abstract

Jatijejer Village, located between the slopes of Mount Penanggungan and Mount Welirang, has significant potential for cultivating aromatic plants, particularly lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and citronella (Cymbopogon nardus). These plants are sources of essential oils with various benefits, including uses in aromatherapy, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory applications, and are widely utilized in the cosmetics and healthcare industries. Despite this potential, the community of Jatijejer Village previously only utilized lemongrass as raw material, yielding suboptimal economic value and welfare improvement. This community service program aims to enhance the welfare of Jatijejer Village through the production and diversification of essential oil-based products. Activities included training in steam distillation techniques, quality measurement of essential oils, and the development of derivative products such as inhalers and diffusers. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in participants' knowledge and skills. The average pre-test score of 58.4 percent increased to 97.2 percent in the post-test. Additionally, the essential oils produced were successfully developed into value-added products, such as inhalers and diffusers, which have begun to be marketed locally. Solid waste from the distillation process was also utilized as organic fertilizer, reinforcing the program's sustainability. This training effectively improved the skills, income, and economic independence of the Jatijejer Village community.

Abstract

This community service initiative addresses the need for an efficient population administration system in RT3/RW3, Rejowinangun Utara Village, Magelang, where several key issues hinder effective data management. These problems include manual record-keeping with logbooks, which may increase the risk of errors and data loss, limited accessibility to population information, and challenges in adopting digital technology due to limited technical knowledge and infrastructure. To resolve these problems, this activity is conducted in four phases: data gathering, system development, evaluation, and user training. During the data-gathering phase, discussions with the community leader and the collection of family record data were conducted to identify specific needs and challenges. The system development phase focused on creating a user-friendly web-based Population Administration System (PAS) tailored to these requirements. In the evaluation phase, the system was tested and refined based on feedback from the community leader to ensure functionality and usability. The user training phase provided hands-on experience to the community leader, enabling independent use of the system for managing data and generating demographic summaries. The implementation of PAS successfully transformed administrative processes into digital and improved data accessibility for the local community.

Abstract

The Wastra Sejahtera Community Group (Pokmas) at Mojotrisno Village, Jombang Regency, is a group of natural weaving artisans facing challenges in traditional marketing, leaving many products unsold. This community service project aims to improve Pokmas’ sales performance through digital marketing with Digital Storytelling (DST) content. DST was chosen to raise brand awareness and reach wider audiences, with strategies tailored to Pokmas’ conditions, product quality, and target market. This project used a qualitative approach that included interviews with consumers who love Indonesian cloth (wastra) to understand the essential values in making consumption decisions and observed competitor strategies. We used field data to determine the DST strategy for Pokmas Wastra Sejahtera, including creating examples of DST content and training for Pokmas. We developed strategies based on consumer needs that influenced the form and content, especially in the lifestyle category and the elements that formed DST. Additionally, we simplified the DST strategy so Pokmas could adapt to structured digital marketing activities. Through this community service project, Pokmas understood and felt the benefits of exposure to a broader market when they started selling on TikTok. Through the training they find the need for DST to tell the uniqueness of wastra products.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) was conducted around the campus of Universitas Satya Terra Bhinneka with the aim of enhancing community skills in producing and marketing dishwashing liquid as a home industry. The activity began with a pre-test to assess participants’ initial understanding of the production process, packaging, and marketing strategies. The pre-test results showed that most participants had no prior experience in soap making and limited knowledge of packaging and product marketing. The training included a live demonstration of the soap-making process, followed by sessions on product packaging and marketing strategies, particularly through the use of social media. Post-training evaluation showed significant improvements: 90.32 percent of participants understood the soap-making process, 100 percent grasped proper packaging techniques, and 74.19 percent understood how to utilize digital marketing strategies. Interest in starting a dishwashing liquid business increased from 29.03 percent to 77.42 percent after the training. This program effectively provided practical and applicable skills, promoted economic self-reliance, and strengthened the synergy between the university and the community in developing local potential. The training is expected to stimulate the emergence of new, sustainable, and competitive household-based business units in the local market.

Abstract

The Argorejo karaoke district has become a popular destination for night-time leisure activities in Semarang. A study was conducted in collaboration with the Argorejo Karaoke Association (PAKAR). It was determined that specific programmes, including those utilising psychological principles, is necessary. The challenges experienced by these individuals frequently pertain to a lack of support from their social networks, profound emotional distress, and an inability to effectively cope with adversity. The psychoeducation approach was employed in a study involving 49 females who were employed as lady companions. Initially, the participants were provided with psychosocial support material. Secondly, focus groups were convened and facilitated using "we-ness" cards. The quantitative findings demonstrated that the mean score for the perception of social support received by individuals increased. Participants are able to recognise emotions and comprehend when they require different types of support from others, which was a qualitative finding. Participants develop an understanding of their own needs and provide psychological support to others for ensuring optimal well-being in the long term. Further research is required to ascertain the efficacy of the "we-ness" card in a range of community service contexts, particularly those most in need, it is imperative that diverse groups collaborate.

Abstract

Improving teacher competency is more effective when supported by continuous professional development. This Community Service Program continues previous activities in 2024, which focused on training chemistry teachers to develop argumentation-based questions. Although teachers can now construct such questions, challenges remain in classroom implementation, especially in applying strategies and assessing their impact on students’ argumentation skills. To address this, the program introduces Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on argumentation skills. The goal is to equip chemistry teachers with practical knowledge and skills to design and implement learning that fosters argumentation through CAR. The program includes training, group discussions, tests and questionnaires, mentoring in CAR planning, implementation practice, and reflection. Results show improved teacher understanding of argumentation structures, CAR stages, and enhanced ability to design contextual and reflective learning to develop students’ argumentation skills. This program supports the sustainable development of argumentation-based learning to improve the quality of chemistry education in line with 21st-century demands. This program demonstrates an effective model for sustaining argumentation-based learning in chemistry education.

Abstract

Mulyodadi is one of the villages that has been developing “agroedutourism”. Despite this potential, the village faces limited public recognition. Therefore, this community service program (PKM) was implemented to assist in the development of promotional media and to conduct a photography workshop. The program aimed to strengthen the promotional capacity, readiness, and independence of the human resources in managing tourism promotion. The creation of promotional media comprises three steps. First, collecting data on the tourism potential and selecting documentation from the village promotional team. Second, designing bilingual booklets and videos. Third, conducting a final review and revision of those media. A workshop was also conducted to optimize smartphone usage for photography purposes. The approach used in this program was a service-learning approach, which focused on building capacity, enhancing independence, and simultaneously fostering a sense of community ownership of the program. Observable changes were identified in the partner’s capability, including improved skills in photography and the availability of bilingual promotional media. These results indicate an improvement in the promotional readiness of the village and provide tangible support for continuous tourism promotion. Thus, the PKM empowers the human resources of the village by enhancing their ability to showcase their tourism potential.
