Abstract

The ability to read is the most important skill in learning a foreign language.  Reading begins with simple reading passage through short message or reading long-form articles or scientific papers. Goi (vocabulary) are not taught specifically, while goi is the basics before entering dokkai  (reading) subjects. From the experience of organizing dokkai course, there appears to be fundamental weakness in the ability to read.This research is quantitative research. This study examines the correlation between students mastery of goi which is reflected in the   subject of Argumentative Reading and Writing II. Students of 6th semester 2014/2015 Academic Year Program S1 Japanese Literature Faculty of Humanity Brawijaya University are used as population and sample. Students receive reading and course since 3rd semester. Data collection techniques is done by collecting and assessing in the students mark in Argumentative Reading and Writing II courses as well as making the research instrument in form of a test. The research instrument was made by adjusting the standard JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) level N3. Data Processing is done by measuring the correlation using Pearson correlation or Product Moment Correlation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe main problems of Japanese language text study, current text research and its application in Japanese language learning. Referring to the understanding of text as the largest and most comprehensive set of language study, the understanding of concepts and limitations in text study required for language learners, especially foreign languages learners, students should understand the concept and limitation of the text. The research method used descriptive qualitative research methods. The study results gained conclusion that text in Japanese language studies focused on study of text structure, especially discussion of text coherence. The views on this issue become a basis for understanding applied in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. This study focuses on discussion mentioned various research problems that can be raised and an example of text study research results applied with Japanese Language Text Structure Classification, Japanese Language Material Teaching, and contrastif language study

Abstract

Terdapat berbagai faktor yang mendasari pembentukan dan pemakaian bahasa oleh masyarakat penuturnya. Hal ini dikarenakan hubungan erat yang tak bisa dipisahkan antara bahasa dan masyarakat. Hubungan tersebut adalah (1) Bahasa mempengaruhi masyarakat, (2) Masyarakat mempengaruhi bahasa, dan (3) Saling berpengaruhnya bahasa dan masyarakat. Pengaruh tersebut satu diantaranya tampak pada pembentukan fukugougo atau komposisi kata majemuk Bahasa Jepang yang tidak semena-mena terbentuk begitu saja namun terdapat pengaruh dari konsep sosial budaya masyarakat Jepang dalam pembentukannya. Konsep masyarakat yang mempengaruhi tersebut adalah sistem stratifikasi, sistem keluarga, dan sistem jenis kelamin (gender). Pada kesempatan kali ini penulis akan memaparkan fukugougo yang terpengaruh oleh konsep sosial budaya di atas yang terdapat pada buku minna no nihongo Shokyuu I dan II, dan juga akan memaparkan bentuk variasi komposisi pemajemukannya.

Abstract

The issue of John Kerrys speech about Syria conflict reported by Kompas TV takes interpretation process. Interpretation used in transforming source language (John Kerry/English) to target language (Kompas TV/Indonesian). The aim of this study is revealing shifting interpretation inserted by Kompas TV while reporting John Kerrys speech about Syria conflict. Documentary video from Kompas TV and the United States official channel on YouTube is the data which consist of three videos. Qualitative data approach is applied to this study because the analysis gives explanation to strength the findings. The result of the analysis shows that Kompas TV used complex syntax, making long passage into a sentence, de-verbalization, and compression to get John Kerrys idea. All of John Kerrys utterances are simplified into the simple one. Hence, Kompas TV shifts the interpretation through complex syntax process which  is inserted in semantic macrostructures, syntactic of subject position, self-define of terrorist, and disclaimer to reject racism.

Abstract

Lindahl (2004) states that folktales are stories told by people from generation to generation. One of the folktales that the writer discusses is The Fisherman and His Wife. This paper discusses about Moral Values in the ˜Fisherman and his Wife. This folktale was selected as the source of the data in this study because it describes moralities.  Several texts were selected for the data to determine the Moral Values in the folktale. The data were collected by reading and analyzing the folktales. There are a number of ways that one might morally educate a child. One can demonstrate various virtues and encourage the child to copy his or her own behavior. Moreover, one might tell folktales with moral lesson in order to encourage favorable behavior. Hopefully this study will give a beneficial to the readers in terms of morality from other cultures to achieve better understanding when dealing with literary texts.

Abstract

One of the interesting phenomena in the use of written language is found in motor cycle stickers. The use of language is able to reveal social dimension and show social culture of a given society. This study focuses on messages in the motorcycle stickers: 1) describing patterns of language structures and other linguistic elements; 2) describing relationship patterns among participants; and 3) unsealing what and how socio-cultural phenomena. Theoretical Framework in this study refers to what is stated by Fairclough (1995): Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). CDA is discourse analysis which involves socio-cultural phenomena expressed through the use of language. Based on 70 motor cycle stickers; using descriptive qualitative method; and applying Fairclough theory, it is found that: 1) Language patterns used in the stickers are casual type which employ short and incomplete structures. 2) There are three strong relationship patterns among participants: motorcycle rider, social class, and gender. 3) There are three main reflections drawn from social phenomena: social classes; Secondly, socio-politic policy applied for gender equality; phenomena of how bahasa gaul influences the use of proper and correct Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

Literature is one form of cultural for delivering all forms of initiative, work, events, and human beliefs are poured in written and non-written. Literary were created also to be used for the various purposes that people wants, to give suggestions, satire, criticism, education, and so on. This article aims to let the reader understand that one of the examples of oral literature that was also created with the sarcasm is the story of the origin of Reog. There is one version that spread in the many peopleand has links with the political bureaucracy of its time. At that time, Reog believed to be used as a medium or a means to convey satire and criticism of the people to the government. The sarcasm is contained in Reogs origins with a version of the story of Ki Ageng Kutus rebellion, a royal servant in the Bhre Kertabhumi period, the last Majapahit king who had a power in the fifteenth century. It was told that Ki Ageng Kutu was wrathful with the influence of Kings wife who came from Cina and his corrupt government.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss lingual data of defamation cases based on analysis, lexical semantics, grammatical semantics, and pragmatic analysis (speech acts) which are part of linguistic forensic studies. From the lingual data on defamation that has been analyzed based on the three points of view, the following findings are obtained: (1) based on the lexical semantic analysis found the lexical meaning / meaning of word denotation; (2) based on the grammatical semantic analysis, the meaning of phrases, sentences, and discourse in accordance with the intended by the speaker; (3) there are speech acts of illocution and expressive perlokusi, both from speakers and partners said. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that a speech is classified as defamation and this can be utilized by the investigator as one of the basis for the preparation of the investigation event (BAP) as well as the decision making for the legal sanction for the defamation perpetrator

Abstract

Function actors in Indonesian passive sentences often escape discussion books Indonesian syntax. The discussion focused on the function of more active voice. Treatment of the passive voice is restricted to the existence of an active sentence. In some syntactic outstanding books in general, functions of the perpetrators not be discussed in a clear and detailed. The average of these books use the concept of the subject (actor) in the active sentence becomes the object (the perpetrator) if subjected to a passivating process. The purpose of this study demonstrate the concept of correct function in accordance with the rules of syntax Indonesian. This study uses descriptive qualitative reviewed the literature to examine the function of the perpetrator based on syntactic theories, especially theories on the book Raw Indonesian Grammar as the main reference book. In addition, other books about the theory of syntax also be literature studies. The results of this study describes that concept of the function of the sentence in the passive voice. The results of this study were 1) the function of the actors in the passive voice can serve as complementary actors, title, and description, 2) the object never appears in the passive voice

Abstract

Sastra merupakan wahana untuk mengekspresikan sebuah situasi tertentu pada periode tertentu pula melalui tafsir dan kacamata sastrawan. Dengan pengertian lain, sastra bisa menjadi media perekaman sosial kemasyarakatan tertentu untuk dibaca, ditelaah, dan dijadikan acuan untuk membentuk suasana serta karakter masyarakatnya di kemudian hari. Sastra Sunda tentu saja merupakan rekaman dari situasi kehidupan sosial masyarakat Sunda. Sastra Sunda bisa menjadi media dan menjadikannya album sosial kemasyarakatan untuk ditelaah dan dijadikan pijakan demi menunaikan pola sosial kemasyarakatan di kemudian hari bagi masyarakat Sunda yang lebih berkembang dan maju. Sementara itu, nyaris di setiap sudut, pengaruh asing seolah berlomba-lomba merangsek ke masyarakat kita. Tak terkecuali di masyarakat Sunda. Berkembangnya dunia teknologi, serta merta akan mampu mengubah cara bersikap dan berfikir bagi masyarakat agar tetap melaju sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan perkembangan zamannya.Persoalannya adalah, bagaimana masyarakat Sunda mampu memelihara dan mempertahankan keberadaan sastra Sunda sebagai media rekam masyarakatnya. Padahal, di samping upaya pemeliharaan dan pelestarian keberadaan sastra, baik tulis maupun lisan, pengaruh asing tadi begitu deras menerjang tatanan sosial kemasyarakatan di tatar Sunda. Sebagai sebuah entitas yang serta-merta bisa memorak-porandakan keberadaan sosial masyarakat, maka pengaruh asing itu jelas harus disikapi dengan hati-hati dan pikiran bijak.Tentu saja, upaya-upaya dengan cara bekerja keras dan upaya-upaya konstruktif harus segera dilakukan. Pemberlakuan upaya ini tentu dengan melibatkan berbagai pihak, lembaga-lembaga terkait baik pemerintah maupun swasta.
