Abstract

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of seaweed, contributing 16.2% to the global market, yet most of its seaweed is still exported in raw form. This limits added value creation and hinders the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). NORIbet, a seaweed-processed MSME based in Bandung, West Java, aims to address this gap by developing value-added seaweed products. However, the business still faces challenges in cost management, marketing, and technology access. This research was conducted from June to October 2024 to analyze NORIbet's business profile using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and evaluate its financial feasibility. A descriptive case study approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods was used, with data collected through observations and interviews involving two business owners and two production staff, selected using purposive sampling. Financial feasibility was analyzed through indicators such as profit, revenue cost ratio (R/C), break even point (BEP), payback periods (PP), and sensitivity analysis. Findings indicate that NORIbet successfully implements the 9 BMC elements in a well-structured manner. The business earned an annual profit of IDR 766,334,100 with a profitability rate of 56.1% and an R/C ratio of 2.28. Payback period is estimated at 4.6 months, and each product packaging type has its own BEP unit. Sensitivity analysis showed that a 10% increase in cost reduced profitability to 51.7%, while a 10% cost reduction increased it to 60%, indicating strong cost efficiency and operational resilience. These results confirm that NORIbet is highly feasible and has strong development potential.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of environment, experience, education, temperature, work hour, age, fishermen group, access internet, and government aid on post-harvest fish losses. The sample of this study was taken from Banyuwangi district consisting of Muncar and Blimbingsari sub-districts, and Lamongan district consisting of Paciran and Lamongan sub-districts. This study uses a quantitative approach and regression estimation using Ordinary Least Square (OLS), to see the influence between the independent variables on the dependent variables in the study. The results of this study show that the variables of environment, education, experience, and fishermen group have a significant influence on post-harvest fish loss. In addition, the highest post-harvest fish loss (PHFL) was found in Blimbingsari sub-district, Banyuwangi district. Another location with a high PHFL value was Muncar sub-district. In contrast, Paciran and Brondong sub-districts in Lamongan district had lower PHFL values. The findings have managerial and academic implications. For policy makers and fisheries organizations, the results of this study highlight the need to increase access to efficient storage technologies and provide training to improve fishers' skills in post-harvest handling. Academically, this study contributes to the fisheries economics literature by offering empirical evidence on the key factors affecting PHFL in small-scale fisheries. There are still gaps in integrated empirical studies and in policies that address human resources and institutional support. Therefore, this study provides important insights for designing more holistic and targeted strategies to reduce PHFL in East Java.

Abstract

Milkfish production can be increased in aquaculture if feeding and the use of artificial high protein feed can be optimized. Optimal feeding can be done by adding probiotics to the feed, one of which is by using EM4. This study aims to compare the concentration of the addition of probiotic EM4 in commercial feed so that optimal growth of juvenile milkfish (Chanos chanos) is obtained. This research was conducted in the community ponds of Toiba Village, Bualemo District, Banggai Regency from May to July 2022. This research uses an experimental method which is carried out in one pond plot. There were nine fixed cages with a width of 30 cm and a height of 30 cm used for maintenance. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications. Parameters observed in this study were Specific Growth Rate (SGR), Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Survival (SR) and water quality. The results of the research showed that treatment B provided the best Specific Growth Rate and Feed Conversion Ratio for juvenile milkfish because the difference in the number of bacteria contained in EM4 probiotics can affect the absorption of fish nutrients because the more bacterial population in the digestive tract will increase the availability of nutrients that are ready to be absorbed in the digestive tract. This increase in digestibility is the same as the higher nutrients available to be absorbed by the body which will affect growth and Feed Conversion Ratio.

Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that plays a significant role in driving economic growth and improving community welfare. Banyuwangi Regency possesses substantial coastal tourism potential, one of which is Cacalan Beach. Despite offering appealing natural attractions, good accessibility, and active digital promotion through electronic word of mouth (e-WOM), the abundance of similar beach destinations presents a challenge for Cacalan Beach in maintaining its competitiveness as a top choice for tourists. This study aims to analyze the influence of tourist attraction, accessibility, and e-WOM on tourists' visit decisions, with visiting interest as a mediating variable. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach, involving 140 respondents who met the criteria, using a questionnaire as the data collection tool. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with WarpPLS version 8.0. The results indicate that tourist attraction has a direct influence on visit decisions, while accessibility and e-WOM do not show a direct effect. However, all three variables significantly enhance visiting interest, which in turn contributes to an increase in actual visits to Cacalan Beach. These findings highlight that visiting interest plays a crucial role in encouraging tourists' decisions to visit.

Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cultivation is one of the rapidly growing aquaculture sectors in Indonesia, especially in West Sumatra Province. However, the success of this cultivation is greatly influenced by feed efficiency, water quality, and shrimp health. The use of probiotics is one of the strategies that are widely developed to improve cultivation performance in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of two types of probiotics, namely Bacillus spp. and Lactobacillus spp., on the growth and survival of whiteleg shrimp in a semi-intensive pond system. The study was conducted experimentally in Padang Pariaman Regency using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of three treatments and three replications: P1 (control without probiotics), P2 (Bacillus spp. probiotics), and P3 (Lactobacillus spp. probiotics). The parameters observed included daily growth rate, survival rate, feed conversion efficiency (FCR), and water quality (pH, DO, NH₃, and salinity). Data were analyzed using ANOVA test and continued with DMRT test at a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the P2 treatment gave the best results significantly on all main parameters. Bacillus spp. has been shown to increase growth rate, survival rate, feed efficiency, and stabilize pond water quality. The P3 treatment showed intermediate results, while P1 showed the lowest performance. Thus, Bacillus spp. is the most effective probiotic to support vaname shrimp cultivation in a semi-intensive system.

Nirwana Beach is one of the leading coastal tourism destinations in Padang City, offering significant potential for development as an educational and sustainable tourism area. However, the management of this area still faces various challenges, such as low community participation, limited environmental education facilities, and the lack of integration of conservation programs into tourism activities. This study aims to analyze conservation and environmental education strategies at Nirwana Beach to support sustainable coastal area management. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach using questionnaires with 100 respondents, supported by field observations and interviews with key informants. Data were analyzed descriptively and then followed by a SWOT analysis approach. The results showed that tourist awareness and concern for the environment were high (score >4.0), but educational facilities and community involvement were still limited. The SWOT analysis resulted in a total score of strengths (1.30), weaknesses (0.35), opportunities (1.22), and threats (0.52), placing conservation and education strategies in Quadrant I (aggressive strategies). The main recommended strategies include developing educational programs based on direct experience, providing environmental information facilities, involving local communities, and promoting the area as an environmentally friendly tourism destination. With its dominant potential strengths and opportunities, this area needs to be managed through multi-stakeholder synergy to create a tourist destination that is not only economically attractive, but also contributes to environmental conservation and public education

Abstract

This study examines the potential and role of the fisheries sub-sector in the economy of Sumatra's provinces using Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data from 2004-2023. The analysis includes Growth Rate Percentage, Fisheries Sub-sector Contribution Percentage, Location Quotient (LQ), Sectoral Contribution Index (IKS), and Localization Index (LI). The findings indicate that the fisheries sub-sector growth rate in Sumatra ranges from 7.99% to 46.01%, averaging 22.4%. Its contribution to the agricultural sector varies from 6.20% to 67.63%, with an average of 20.81%, while its share of total GRDP is between 1.69% and 6.53%, averaging 3.75%. The LQ values range from 0.56 to 2.17, with an average of 1.24, indicating that this sub-sector is a base industry with production exceeding local consumption. However, the IKS values (0.02-0.07, averaging 0.04) suggest that the fisheries sub-sector is not yet a key sector. The LI values (0.01-0.09, averaging 0.03) reflect a relatively balanced distribution across Sumatra. Overall, the fisheries sub-sector contributes significantly to regional and national economic growth. However, the low IKS value indicates that its potential remains underutilized. To maximize this potential and enhance export competitiveness, strategic support through innovative policies, infrastructure investment, and modern technology adoption is essential.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the main components of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the processing of cuttlefish products at the Cold Storage facility of PPN Brondong, Lamongan. GMP plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of fishery products to meet export standards. Data analysis was conducted using a factor analysis approach with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results of the KMO test (0.777) and Bartlett’s test indicate that the data is suitable for analysis. Eight GMP variables were successfully grouped into five main factors, which together explain more than 90% of the data variation. The most influential factors identified were packaging and labeling, storage, sanitation facilities, transportation, and the selection of raw and auxiliary materials. The strength of this research lies in its comprehensive approach to evaluating eight key GMP variables through factor analysis, an approach that has rarely been applied in similar studies. These findings provide a critical foundation for strengthening GMP implementation to enhance the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian cuttlefish products in the global market.
