Abstract

This study examines the multidimensional performance of small-scale tuna and skipjack fisheries across four major locations in Central Maluku—Banda, Saparua, Amahai, and Tehoru—using five key dimensions: social, economic, technological, institutional, and ecological. Cluster analysis was applied to classify locations based on their multidimensional characteristics and to identify the dimensions most influential in shaping cluster separation. The findings reveal distinct differences among sites, with Saparua exhibiting the strongest social and institutional performance, Banda showing the weakest institutional conditions, and Amahai–Tehoru forming a single cluster characterized by relatively strong economic and technological conditions but weaker ecological performance, particularly in Tehoru. Institutional and social dimensions emerged as the primary drivers of cluster formation, followed by technological, economic, and ecological factors. The discussion highlights how institutional strength and social capital underpin adaptive capacity and economic–ecological outcomes, while technological intensification may heighten exploitation risks without effective effort regulation. The study concludes that fisheries management must be tailored to cluster-specific contexts: strengthening local institutions in Banda, consolidating co-management in Saparua and Amahai, and implementing effort controls and ecological monitoring in Tehoru. These results reinforce the importance of place-based and socially rooted governance in small-scale fisheries.

Abstract

The aims of the study was to analysis the level productivity and factors can influence the productivity of aquaculture in KJA of Carp and Tilapia in Cirata Reservoir, Ciranjang District, Cianjur Regency, with a research period from December 2024 - June 2025. The method used in this case study method with a sampling technique using the purposive sampling method. The data collection techniques by interviewing and distributing questionnaires with a total of 60 fish farmers as respondents, then the data obtained were analyzed using both descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. Factors that influence productivity are analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression. The results of the study showed that the productivity level of aquaculture is seen from the productivity per unit area was 26.31 kg/year/m² and seen from the productivity per unit cost was IDR 20,69 /kg. In addition, result of the financial analysis showed an R/C ratio value of 1.9 which means it is that the cultivation business is profitable. The results of statistical tests show that the factors that can influence the productivity of aquaculture are seed quality, and age of fish farmers while land area, feed and length of experience do not have a significant effect.

Abstract

Sustainable management of marine and fisheries resources requires active community participation, particularly through Community-Based Surveillance Groups (Pokmaswas). This study aims to analyze the development level and determine the development priorities of the Duurstede Pokmaswas in Saparua District. The research was conducted from June to August 2024 using qualitative methods through interviews, questionnaires, and focus group discussions (FGDs) involving all Pokmaswas members (40 respondents). Institutional analysis employed the Institutional Development Framework (IDF) to assess six resource characteristics: vision development, management, human resources, finance, external relations, marine–fisheries surveillance, and infrastructure. The results show that the development level of the Duurstede Pokmaswas remains at the initial stage (40.35%), with smaller portions of components at the developing stage (19.30%), consolidation stage (22.81%), and sustainability stage (17.54%). This study concludes that the Duurstede Pokmaswas requires comprehensive institutional strengthening, particularly in the provision of infrastructure, operational funding, and capacity-building for its members. The government and supporting institutions are recommended to enhance guidance, training, and facility support to improve the effectiveness of the Pokmaswas in marine and fisheries resource surveillance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the social and economic conditions of purse seine fishermen at the Fish Landing Base (PPI) Peudada, Bireuen Regency. The data collection methods used include observation and interviews, employing the Accidental Sampling technique with 40 active fishermen. The data gathered consists of primary data obtained through direct interviews and secondary data from relevant literature. The results of the study show that the purse seine fishermen at PPI Peudada have an annual net income of approximately IDR 759,762,000, with a monthly income of around IDR 63,313,500. However, their income per fishing trip is only about IDR 6,331,350, and when divided equally, each fisherman receives approximately IDR 316,568 per trip. Although the monthly income is close to the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), the average household expenses of the fishermen amount to IDR 3,685,000, indicating that they are still economically insecure. From a social perspective, the study reveals that the majority of the fishermen are aged between 36-45 years, with 53% of them having completed only junior high school. Additionally, 75% of the fishermen live in permanent houses. The longest fishing experience is more than 20 years for 30% of the fishermen. The study finds that the economic conditions of the fishermen are far from prosperous, influenced by high household expenses and the instability of their participation in every fishing trip.
