Abstract

This community service program was carried out to enhance the knowledge and skills of fish farmer groups (POKDAKAN) in Batam City in implementing the biofloc system efficiently through feed management and probiotic application. Batam City has substantial potential for Nile tilapia aquaculture; however, challenges such as high feed costs and declining water quality remain major constraints. The biofloc system offers a solution by utilizing microorganisms to convert organic waste into supplemental feed, thereby reducing production costs and maintaining water quality. The objective of this community service program is to improve the partners’ understanding and competencies in feed management and probiotic application. It is expected that the adoption of this technology will address the partners’ challenges, increase productivity, and ultimately enhance their income. The methods employed in this program included counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice related to probiotic application and the measurement of water quality parameters in culture ponds. Evaluation results showed that 80% of participants understood the biofloc technology, 65% were able to form and maintain flocs, and 80% recognized its benefits for aquaculture. Participants also reported increased knowledge regarding floc management, probiotics, and water quality parameters that were previously not well understood. The training strengthened participants’ understanding of the importance of controlling temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and ammonia in supporting Nile tilapia growth within a biofloc system. Field practice activities received very positive responses and encouraged more effective implementation of biofloc technology among fish farmers in Batam. Therefore, continued assistance and systematic monitoring are necessary to ensure optimal application of biofloc technology and to provide long-term benefits for the aquaculture community.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are productive businesses carried out by individuals in the form of small home businesses with small-scale production capacity or business entities that meet business criteria. One of the SMEs that produces various wet and dry cakes and bread is Warna Cake in Tegal Besar Permai Housing Complex RT 2 and RW 01 Tegal Besar Village, Kaliwates District, Jember Regency. Warna Cake SMEs face several problems in their efforts to scale up production, namely: 1. Low productivity due to equipment with small production capacity and technology that is not yet adequate to increase production volume and quality, 2. not yet having a NIB (Business Permit Number) and Self Declare Halal and P-IRT which results in limited marketing areas 3. Management of the processing process is still simple so that the quality of products, packaging, labels still do not meet the requirements. 4. Implementation of HACCP has not been carried out properly and comprehensively. The proposing team seeks to help overcome these problems by providing assistance in efforts to increase production capacity through the procurement of equipment with larger capacity and faster performance; assisting in the administrative process at the Jember Regency PLUT for NIB, Halal and P-IRT permits; and providing assistance in Good Manufacturing Practices and introducing the Tangzhong method in order to increase the production capacity of the Warna Cake UKM without reducing the quality of its production.

Abstract

Children in early childhood are a vulnerable group during disasters. Early childhood is expected to have knowledge and skills in disaster mitigation, and this can be obtained, among other things, from Early Childhood Education (PAUD) institutions. In schools, teachers play a crucial role in providing information on disaster management. However, the problem is often that teachers lack this knowledge and this skill. This phenomenon also occurred at the Allifa Integrated PAUD in Sleman Regency. The objectives of this activity are: 1) to provide knowledge about disaster management and the importance of understanding it for children; 2) to provide learning media for disaster management in the form of animated videos; and 3) to practice disaster management skills. The community service methods used include outreach, technology application, and training. The outreach focused on disaster management. The technology application involved creating animated videos. The training involved practising earthquake disaster management simulations in schools. The community service, specifically outreach, increased partners' knowledge in disaster management from 23% to 91%. The use of animated videos as learning media facilitates the transfer of knowledge and skills to partners. Simulation training was conducted to familiarise students and teachers with earthquake disaster mitigation. During the training, the animated video was played before the disaster simulation practice. Based on observations, students and teachers practised the instructions in the animated video, such as taking cover under tables, protecting their heads, remaining calm/not panicking, following the teacher's directions, and immediately moving to the assembly point. The animated video-based outreach, training, and learning activities improved partners' knowledge and skills in disaster management.

Abstract

The program in Bunutin Village, Bangli District, was implemented to improve the efficiency of fish farming while reducing farmers’ dependence on commercial feed through the application of integrated aquaculture and independent feed production. The main issues faced by the community include limited knowledge, skills, and experience in practicing sustainable aquaculture, as well as the lack of access to alternative feed sources that are cheaper, environmentally friendly, and easy to produce independently. To address these challenges, the program introduced the use of African Nightcrawler earthworms (Eudrilus eugeniae) as a high-protein feed source. The activities were carried out over ten months, covering preparation, technical training, mentoring, and evaluation stages. The training provided comprehensive guidance on earthworm cultivation, media management, humidity and temperature control, and integration with aquaculture systems. Participants were also taught how to utilize organic waste as earthworm culture media and to use worms as live feed or feed meal, while also producing vermicompost for crops. Evaluations through pre-test and post-test showed significant improvements: understanding of feed production increased from 46.6% (less interested) to 71.8% (highly interested), and practical skills improved from 40.5% (poor) to 77.5% (very good). The program outputs included media publications, journal articles, training videos, and enhanced farmer capacity. The program proved effective in promoting feed self-sufficiency and establishing an environmentally friendly bio-circular system. Subsequent steps focus on technology replication, development of processed feed such as pellets, and strengthening farmer institutions to ensure sustainability and wider adoption. This model is suitable for rural areas as a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for integrated agriculture and aquaculture. This program enhances feed self-sufficiency, strengthens farmers’ capacity, and develops a sustainable bio-circular system that effectively supports integrated agriculture–aquaculture in Bunutin Village.

Abstract

Limitations in financial statement literacy and digital marketing literacy remain major constraints for household MSMEs in developing their businesses sustainably. Social media and e-commerce are generally utilized merely as sales channels, rather than as integrated information systems that present sales, cost, and profit data comprehensively. This condition results in business decision-making that is not supported by adequate financial performance analysis, thereby causing opportunities for improving profitability, operational efficiency, and market expansion to remain underutilized by MSME actors. This community service program aims to enhance business actors’ understanding of financial statements and to optimize digital marketing strategies through training, mentoring, and the provision of supporting technologies. The activities were conducted in collaboration with the partner ErZi Craft in Purbalingga Regency, which operates in the handmade knitting craft industry. The implementation methods included socialization activities, financial statement literacy training, preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and a Business Model Canvas (BMC), as well as training in branding, packaging, product photography, e-catalog development, and live streaming on Shopee and Instagram platforms. The results of the activities demonstrate a significant improvement in the partner’s business performance. The partner’s understanding of simple financial statements and Shopee financial reports increased, enabling them to prepare income statements and monitor cash flows on a regular basis. SOP and BMC documents have been developed and have begun to be used as references for daily operational activities. From the perspective of digital marketing, the partner now possesses a business logo, digital catalog designs, and more attractive photo and video promotional content. The partner is also proficient in utilizing live streaming features as a routine promotional medium, which has contributed to the expansion of market reach to various cities in Indonesia and abroad, such as Bekasi, Tangerang, Jakarta, South Sumatra, Purworejo, and even Singapore. This community service program has been proven to contribute to enhancing the partner’s business capacity through the strengthening of financial statement literacy, operational governance, and more professional digital marketing skills. Increased turnover and expanded market reach provide more stable income opportunities for business owners and members, thereby supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly poverty reduction and women’s empowerment in productive economic activities.

Abstract

This community service research aims to address the challenges of non-hygienic and weather-dependent traditional drying methods in processing agricultural waste among the Sekar Transad Women Farmers Group (KWT). The primary focus is to implement and test renewable energy-based drying technology to convert pineapple and banana peels into economically valuable flour, thereby meeting the demand for production efficiency and hygiene. The implementation method adopted a participatory, partnership-based approach, engaging KWT partners from the initial design and construction phases. A solar dome dryer unit with a capacity of 500 kg of wet raw material was constructed using polycarbonate material and a light steel frame. Following construction, intensive training was conducted, covering operational protocols, routine maintenance, and quality testing techniques, ensuring the community members achieved full technological mastery. The evaluation of the solar dryer's performance yielded highly satisfactory results. The solar dome drying unit successfully reduced the drying process duration significantly by up to 40% compared to conventional methods, effectively cutting the time from two full days to one. The enclosed design maintained stable internal temperatures above 55°C, a critical threshold for suppressing microbial contamination and pathogenic growth. Post-drying analysis confirmed that the waste flour produced had consistent moisture content, met industrial quality standards, and exhibited significantly superior hygiene levels. The successful adoption of this technology provides a crucial solution to weather fluctuations, guarantees production continuity, and substantially increases the market value of the processed waste products. Thus, the implementation of the solar dome drying system proves to be an innovative, sustainable, and measurable solution for zero-waste management at the community level. The adoption of this renewable energy technology holds significant implications for strengthening local food security and supporting the economic independence of small enterprises through process efficiency.
