Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of semiconductors into instruments of national power and economic weapons in global geopolitical rivalry, as well as identify countries that will dominate the world economy through chip technology control. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with secondary data analysis for the period 2020–2025, encompassing econometric analysis, industrial policy evaluation, and geopolitical projections. Findings reveal that semiconductors have become the "new oil" of the 21st century, with major powers wielding chips as strategic weapons through massive subsidies ($400+ billion), strict export controls, and supply chain fragmentation. The United States leads through chip design dominance and critical technology control, China aggressively pursues technological self-sufficiency, while Taiwan maintains a monopoly on advanced chip production with a 92% global market share. This study reinforces weaponized interdependence and strategic trade policy theories, demonstrating how asymmetric dependencies in semiconductor supply chains are exploited as economic weapons. For developing countries such as Indonesia, this study recommends a hybrid strategy focusing on the Assembly, Testing & Packaging (ATP) sector and materials supply rather than competing in leading-edge manufacturing.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based entrepreneurship activities within Student Activity Units (UKM) to enhance the entrepreneurial creativity and innovation of students at Universitas Negeri Medan. This study employed a developmental research design based on the Borg and Gall model, integrating a qualitative approach to assess program implementation and a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The research subjects consisted of 275 students affiliated with 12 Student Activity Units and the Student Senate of Universitas Negeri Medan, selected through purposive sampling. The hypothesis testing results indicate that self-confidence has a positive and significant effect on students' entrepreneurial outcome orientation, business risk orientation, and future orientation. Furthermore, students' ICT skills in supporting entrepreneurial activities were categorized as good, with an average score of 62.33. This study resulted in a web-based information system for student activity development, which serves as an initial guideline for students participating in entrepreneurial competitions at regional, national, and international levels. These findings are expected to strengthen the technology-based student entrepreneurship ecosystem and support Universitas Negeri Medan's efforts toward becoming a World-Class University.

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide insights into why construction companies fail or cannot move past the five years since their establishment by examining failures at both the individual and organizational levels and using AI as a tool to achieve productivity. Design/methodology/approach (SLR) – A systematic search has yielded 70 articles between 2019 and 2026 that met the inclusion criteria concerning construction failure, small business failure in general, and AI in construction literature; altogether, 15 of them, which were relevant from a theoretical perspective and had a high number of citations were analyzed in the context of organizational life cycle and resource-based view theories. Theoretical implications – The theories of organizational life cycle and resource-based view have been expanded through this research. Findings – The cash flow problem, employee turnover, and rigidity of management structures are the causes of a high failure rate after the first step; companies surviving past year five tend to survive with a high success rate, and AI will help with these issues. Originality/value – Proposes a Post-Startup Productivity Sustainability (PPS) model. This is the first framework linking AI capability maturity to construction enterprise life-cycle stage. Further research – There is a need for longitudinal, firm-level studies that test the model across developing and developed construction markets.
