Buletin Loop of the Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Samarinda is one of the most active centres of scientific work in agriculture in the Samarinda. Problems are attacked from two distinct points of view: the economic, in which the object is to show how crops may be produced a little more cheaply than at present, and the scientific, the problem being investigated for the sake of the general principles it may bring out. Two sets of bulletins are therefore issued, the popular bulletin, intended for farmers, dealing mainly with local problems, and always from the local point of view, and the research bulletins. The popular bulletins are fully equal to any others in the United States, and much ahead of anything we publish here for farmers; in the series before us the subjects dealt with include land drainage, curing of seed corn, control of various weeds, draft-horse judging, a discussion of the methods of paying for milk at cheese factories, and so on. The research bulletins are the scientific papers of the staff; as usual in the Samarinda, each paper is published separately, and there is no common journal in which they all appear.

Abstract

The implementation of the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification among smallholder oil palm farmers is a crucial step toward achieving sustainable oil palm plantation management. This study aims to analyze smallholders’ perceptions regarding the factors supporting the successful implementation of ISPO. The method used is a descriptive approach, analyzing the level of importance of each factor based on respondents’ assessments. The sample size consisted of 45 respondents selected through purposive sampling, specifically members of the Bumi Subur Farmers’ Cooperative who are in the process of implementing ISPO. The results indicate that land legality is the most dominant factor and a key aspect in the success of ISPO implementation. Other primary supporting factors include government assistance and the presence of supporting institutions or partners, indicating that external support plays a crucial role in enhancing the capacity of smallholder farmers. Furthermore, factors such as the proper application of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cultivation and the use of high-quality oil palm seedlings also fall into the “important” category in supporting ISPO success. Meanwhile, factors such as increased productivity, environmentally friendly cultivation practices, availability of production facilities, cultivation experience, and participation in ISPO training fall into the “moderately supportive” category. Factors with relatively lower influence include fresh fruit bunches (FFB) directly purchased by palm oil mills and the reduction of social issues.

Abstract

Sagon cake is a traditional Indonesian food that can be further developed through the utilization of coconut pulp as a value-added raw material. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different sugar types on the chemical and organoleptic characteristics of coconut pulp sagon cake. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor and three treatments was applied, namely palm sugar (P1), corn sugar (P2), and coconut sugar (P3), with three replications each. The observed parameters included moisture content, ash content, and organoleptic properties (color, aroma, texture, and taste). Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that sugar type had a highly significant effect on moisture content (p<0.01) and a significant effect on ash content, color, aroma, and taste (p<0.05), while no significant effect was observed on texture (p>0.05). Coconut sugar treatment produced the lowest moisture content (2.53%) and the highest ash content (1.20%). In the organoleptic evaluation, palm sugar obtained the highest preference scores for color (4.00), aroma (4.28), and taste (4.00), whereas coconut sugar achieved the highest score for texture (3.57). All treatments complied with the quality requirements of SNI 01-4475-1998 for moisture and ash content. The results indicate that coconut sugar has the potential to improve product storage stability due to its lower moisture content compared with the other treatments.
